Chapter 176: Chapter 176 Trolls Start to Assemble

The battle had stabilized, allowing Fang Jie to finally open the Treasure Boxes he had obtained earlier.

"Indeed, my expectations were too high." Even when opened together, most of the items were nothing special. However, there were some good finds, including a few of his favorite new Soldier Cards.

Regrettably, none reached the Silver level; the highest were merely Bronze.

They seemed of no use for the time being, so he decided to store them for later.

He also came across some additional Soldier Cards, which Fang Jie mostly collected, as he didn’t lack troops.

At last, he found a Building Upgrade Card (Silver), which this time wasn’t for troop buildings. Fang Jie’s eyes lit up, as it meant he could upgrade some of his special buildings.

"It’s a pity I can’t upgrade the Mysterious Garden with it, or I could have saved so many gemstones."

After some experimentation, Fang Jie sighed with no other option and then turned to inspect his other buildings.

However, a quick look revealed a generational gap in his buildings’ levels. The ones that could be upgraded had already reached Silver, while the less impressive or previously un-upgraded ones were still at the Black Iron stage.

After looking around, he realized that the only Bronze-level building left eligible for an upgrade was the Death Energy Tower.

"If only I had some Bronze-level upgrade cards," Fang Jie lamented.

With no other choice, he began with upgrading that. Following the upgrade, the Death Energy Tower’s level soared instantly.

Death Energy Tower (Silver): A defensive unit with the ability to attack with Death Energy.

Building requirements: 100 units of Refined Stone Bricks, 300 units of Yin Gathering Stone, 50000 spirit points.

"The increase in consumption isn’t too significant, and this level of spirit point expense is normal among Silver troops. Although it’s slightly higher and immobile, its defense and attack capabilities are much stronger and more suitable for defense."

Fang Jie decided to replace all the Death Energy Towers surrounding his town with Silver-level ones.

He believed that with so many Silver-level Death Energy Towers, no matter how many Golden Level enemies came during his upgrade trial, he could easily annihilate them.

Once gathered in quantity, these towers were far more useful than some Golden Level Blood Servants.

"What a pity; without the right blueprints for new buildings or other special items, only the potions for enhancing cultivation progress are worthwhile."

Fang Jie shook his head; although he had previously hunted down quite a few Golden Level combatants,

The spoils were limited due to the small scale of the battles, mostly consisting of equipment. As these items were of no use to him, he gave them to his Skeleton Heroes.

Previously there had been no large-scale battles to speak of, mostly just sustained, minor skirmishes.

So, the lack of valuable loot was understandable.

Right now, the conflict erupting at the border involved likewise minor and low-intensity skirmishes. Neither side dared to trigger a full-fledged war carelessly, as the repercussions would be immense.

It seemed that for the time being, Fang Jie could only slowly accumulate resources.

"It’s unfortunate that I don’t have the Mage Tower blueprints. Those are really difficult to come by."

Now he was only missing the Mage Tower blueprints. With those, he could break through to the city level. But without them, it was impossible. Although he had sent Qin Lan to look for them, there had been no news.

Hence with no alternative, Fang Jie had to continue studying skills.

In recent times, he had acquired quite a few Skill Books and some magical treatises. As Fang Jie read through them, he also supplemented his knowledge of magic.

Though it seemed he hadn’t obtained any new skills or enhanced his combat power, this knowledge broadened Fang Jie’s overall capabilities.

Fang Jie felt that once his acquired knowledge was sufficient, he would eventually be able to create new skills.

Those previous skill improvements had merely been guided by his Profession, allowing him to experiment. They weren’t truly his inventions, just advancements aided by what he could grasp.

Just as Fang Jie thought there would be no issues for a while, complications arose in the Northern Plateau.

Zhao Ran, who typically just reported routine matters to him, unexpectedly contacted him. "Lord, there seems to be some abnormal activity in the North."

"What’s going on?" Zhao Ran was the head of the northern base, responsible for monitoring the highlands.

Although the military had not informed him of any issues—not that he could remain oblivious to everything—

"Our observations indicate a large gathering of creatures in the forest, likely Trolls," Zhao Ran reported.

"Our analysis suggests these Trolls are probably gathering because of a shortage of food in winter, preparing to attack our northern camp. If they assemble, no—even just a faction—we won’t be able to hold them off."

Fang Jie’s brow furrowed at this troublesome news, as he was not unfamiliar with the strength of Trolls.

The problem was that Trolls ate everything—in their eyes, even the northern military might be considered as food stores.

"Hasn’t the military requested our support?"

"I’m sorry, there’s been no movement, and even my proactive contact attempts were denied."

"I see. Let’s start by increasing our troop presence in the forest, remaining concealed within for now. Later, whether they call for help or suffer defeat, we will be ready to strike immediately."

Fang Jie had never abandoned his ambition for the North. It wasn’t just about taking control; he also wanted to incorporate those soldiers into his ranks.

The soldiers were disciplined and reliable, and they could help him train more people like them. This included not just those from Earth but also the natives.

Although he knew some training methods, how could they compare to those of professionals?

Had it not been for this, Fang Jie would likely have marched to the highlands long ago.

Now, with the conflict on the Flower Plateau resolved, he could withdraw a significant troop contingent to deploy on the northern front. There was no other direction for expansion in the South or West, leaving that as the only option to increase territory.

The large troop movement, through a major Space Gate, arrived near his Territory and then, under Cosette’s command, proceeded northward.

As for Fang Hao, he was left temporarily on the Flower Plateau, where his experience and qualifications were needed to oversee follow-up plans. Though Mobas was Golden Level, he paled in comparison when it came to military strategy.

Fang Jie hadn’t shared this information widely, to prevent any leaks.
