Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Both Sides Are Hiring Themselves
Fang Jie took the letter, which was a directive issued directly to Mobs by the New Moon Kingdom.
There were two places that sent directives to him: one was the Royal Family, and the other was surprisingly the frontline command.
Fang Jie first read the request—or rather, the demand—from the frontline command. It stated that he was part of the New Moon Kingdom, and since there was a war on the frontier, they demanded that he participate as well.
"How interesting," he mused, "they’re making direct demands. It seems that many territories within the country have no intention of joining."
Although several territories did participate in a token manner, it was mostly to provide their heirs with a taste of glory. This annual conflict was hardly taken seriously by anyone. Those families without heirs in need of such experience did not send troops.
Of course, for the likes of Marquis Kolan, a major noble, it was necessary to make a significant gesture.
This year, however, was different from previous years. The Blue Sand Kingdom had launched such a vigorous offensive that it finally garnered the attention of the nobles. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a unified command; each defense area would have been commanding itself.
"They said they want to hire our Undead Troops, just like what the Blue Sand Empire has done."
Ultimately, walls have ears, and the New Moon Kingdom had learned that a powerful Undead Force had emerged in the Blue Sand Kingdom, which had hired a large number of undead.
This way, they could easily reap substantial benefits without deploying any of their own troops.
Now that the New Moon Kingdom had noticed that the battles here had concluded and saw that he had a large force at his disposal, they contemplated this approach.
"This is a good opportunity," Qin Lan quickly interjected, "it will make them think we’re relatively harmless, and we’ll have the chance to do other things."
"Not only can we do the same as the other side, but if both sides have hired us, we have much more room to maneuver."
Fang Jie nodded. He could think of that, too. Although the skeleton birds could no longer be used at the frontline, there were still other means of communication.
As for the fact that the troops on both sides looked similar, Fang Jie was not the least bit concerned. After all, there were so many similarities among low-level Undead Troops, and even completely identical ones were common.
Skeleton Soldiers, Skeleton Shooters, and the like were far too prevalent.
He only needed to introduce some units that appeared to be unique to him, and no one would suspect anything.
Fang Jie then turned to the request from the Royal Family, which was also about sending troops to the frontier. It included some more subtle demands, like hoping to receive some Initial Embrace slots for Vampires.
They decided that if their demands were met, they would grant a higher status.
"It seems that not everyone in the royal household is afraid to die," Fang Jie remarked with a corner of his mouth turned up.
"Since that’s the case, we agree to the hiring of mercenary forces on the frontier, and the specifics can be negotiated."
Thinking further, Fang Jie added, "We need to hasten the communication with the surrounding nobles and distribute some slots to them. At the same time, have them speak well of us to elevate our status as much as possible."
The legitimacy of his claim was vital. If occupying this territory were deemed illegitimate, then others would endlessly scheme against him.
In that case, how could his territory develop securely and how could he expand?
Otherwise, this place would become nothing but a burden, at best gaining some Treasure Boxes from wars.
Mobs understood Fang Jie’s orders very clearly and immediately dispatched envoys to make contact.
In the following days, Fang Jie was not idle. He first ordered the construction of a Fortress on the southern frontier, with numerous walls built on the highland, serving as the first line of protection.
Internally, they began to cultivate large amounts of Blood Essence Flowers and various crops, with Essence Blood Beehives constructed in various places.
The Essence Blood Bees actually had some aggressiveness. If they attacked in swarms, they could kill even those soldiers at Apprentice Level, but the efficiency was not very high, so Fang Jie did not plan to use the bees as combat power.
With a large number of Blood Essence Bees, the production speed of Blood Honey was also accelerating every day.
Fang Jie envisioned an abundance of Gold-level Blood Servants, as the strength of the territory continued to grow.
Then Fang Jie traveled back and forth across the Flower Plateau, visiting various territories.
Since there were too many low-level territories, Fang Jie ended up demolishing most of them, preserving only a few for transformation. His collection of Territory Cores had indeed increased.
However, what other uses for these Territory Cores existed, Fang Jie did not yet know, as there were no hints to their purpose.
On the seas, due to the expansion of territories, they began asserting more control over marine spaces, and the fleet and marine troops expanded once again. To completely occupy the surrounding waters, however, would take some time.
Through the sea, they slowly gained contacts with major territories of the New Moon Kingdom and commenced marine trade.
This trade, vast in scale and rich in precious resources, quickly became popular.
Starting with just a few nobles who wanted to collaborate with Vampires, the partnership rapidly expanded. There wasn’t a coastal city that didn’t welcome the arrival of the Flower Plateau fleets.
Because of this trade, the New Moon Kingdom’s hostility towards him further dissipated.
With affairs on the Flower Plateau now on the right track, Fang Jie returned directly to his own territory through a large Space Gate.
With no other matters at hand, Fang Jie spent time observing the frontlines occasionally, while also focusing on further increasing his personal strength.
In this environment, the frontier conflict of the New Moon Kingdom dramatically intensified.
With millions of undead joining the battlefield, the New Moon Kingdom continuously lost ground on its own borders, with large swathes of land occupied by the enemy. Yet, in the face of this situation, the New Moon Kingdom was at a loss for what to do.
But once they also employed Undead Troops, the battlefield began to shift.
At first, both sides were cautious and wary of these Undead Troops. But when they found out that when two undead armies clashed, they would ferociously fight to the death, their worries were alleviated.
At least on the surface, it appeared that the two forces were not from the same power, otherwise, they wouldn’t act like this.
They failed to notice that those who died were mostly of Apprentice Level, and nearly all Black Iron Level undead were unharmed. This was a show put on by the heroes at the frontline for both sides to see.
Had it not been so, how else could they continue to receive the funds and materials required?
How could they reassure those people about themselves and use these means to amass more corpses? Through warfare, Fang Jie could cultivate a large number of Elite Undead and even Hero Units.
