Chapter 27: Chapter 27 This world treats life as light as a feather, and fate as wild grass!_1

There’s an old saying: a true man knows when to yield and when to stand firm.

The Strange Tree felt it was thick enough, big enough, and certainly man enough. Therefore, seeing it was no match for Su Yan, it didn’t hesitate for a second and, without a word, uprooted itself to flee.

The only downside was its apparently vengeful nature. Just moments before its escape, it didn’t forget to swing its vines and fiercely whip Su Yan, seeking retaliation for the recent humiliation.

However, this one vengeful lash sealed its hope of escape.

With a sharp CRACK, Su Yan bore the full brunt of the Strange Tree’s powerful blow. Just as this "Branch of Sin" attempted to retreat, Su Yan reached out, grabbed it, and gave it a violent yank. This single pull forcefully dragged back the Strange Tree that was attempting to break free.

"Offend the abbot and think you can run? I’ll beat you so badly your own mother won’t recognize you!"

The Strange Tree was one to hold a grudge. But Su Yan, who had never tolerated being slighted, even as a child, was he any different?

"Mercy, great hero!" the Strange Tree pleaded, terrified and submissive.

"Fine!" Su Yan agreed instantly, slightly loosening his grip on the vine.

Seeing this, the Strange Tree heaved a sigh of relief.

But just then, Su Yan suddenly yanked hard again! Caught off guard, the Strange Tree was slammed to the ground and dragged back.

"You! Shameless! May you never..."

Before the Strange Tree could finish, a loud BANG echoed. A large hole burst open in its trunk, its life force rapidly draining. The next second, it died on the spot. The Strange Tree, so imperious moments ago, was killed by Su Yan with a single punch.

This scene left everyone in the classroom stunned.

This student... He’d easily killed the Strange Tree that even their captain couldn’t contend with! He looked so small and weak... yet it was a single punch that had blown up the Rare-level Strange Tree!

"HISS!"

Thinking this, everyone gasped in unison. One among them, clearly inexperienced, began to suck in air frantically.

"HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS! HISS..."

Everyone else exclaimed, "Will you give it a rest?!"

"HISS!" Seeing everyone looking at him, the person took another sharp, unexpected inhale...

Su Yan ignored the group of salted-fish gamers behind him and, with a soft squelch, silently withdrew his fist from the trunk. Unsupported, the Strange Tree crashed to the ground with a loud THUD. It then began to wither at a visible rate, turning into dust that scattered in the wind in less than two seconds.

Where the Strange Tree had disintegrated, Su Yan noticed a seed. Without hesitation, he bent down, picked it up, and examined it closely.

The seed was plump, vibrantly green, and hard to the touch. It seemed to brim with life.

Soon, a notification popped up in Su Yan’s mind.

[Seed of the Twisted Tree Spirit]: You reap what you sow. Plant this seed, and you shall receive a Twisted Tree Spirit.

Twisted Tree Spirit? *League of Legends*?

Seeing the System’s notification, Su Yan couldn’t help but think of Maokai, the Twisted Tree Spirit from Summoner’s Canyon. That was a burly, rage-filled treant, capable both offensively and defensively, and providing significant crowd control—a valuable asset.

I wonder if it’s the same Twisted Tree Spirit from Summoner’s Canyon...

Looking at the seed, Su Yan felt quite pleased. Just then, with a series of soft WHOOSHES, several more notifications popped up deep in his mind.

[Twisted Tree Spirit Seed Detected]

[Do you wish to Devour it?]

[Option 1]: Yes

[Option 2]: No

[After Devouring, your hair will produce chlorophyll, making it look lush and healthier. It will also purify the air around you, allowing you to breathe fresh air anytime, anywhere...]

Su Yan exclaimed, "WTF!"

He dared not carelessly Devour the Twisted Tree Spirit Seed he held. He could only store it in his System Backpack for now. He planned to find some free time later to plant it. Hopefully, it would grow into a Twisted Tree Spirit, perhaps becoming an underling.

Afterward, Su Yan surveyed the classroom. All he saw was a group of salted-fish gamers, a floor strewn with withered branches, leaves, and broken vines, and three Giant Silkworm Chrysalises.

The three chrysalises hanging in mid-air were tightly bound by vines, so densely wrapped that no air could pass through. If a person were trapped inside, they would most likely be unable to breathe. Therefore, the three people inside were probably doomed.

However, a person isn’t confirmed dead until the body is seen.

Su Yan randomly selected a chrysalis and ripped it open with a tearing sound.

The next moment, an incredibly sturdy arm shot out from within, punching towards the sky. The arm was powerfully muscled, radiating explosive strength.

Seeing this Kirin’s arm, Su Yan was quite surprised. He hadn’t expected the temporary captain to be so resilient, to actually survive this.

"RIIIIP... RIIIIP! RIIIIP!"

With several prolonged tearing sounds, the Kirin’s arm violently shredded the chrysalis. Soon, a familiar, exceptionally bulky figure appeared before Su Yan. It was the captain. He was still alive, though his face was flushed, and he was gasping for air, clearly having been badly suffocated inside the chrysalis.

"Quick, go rescue the other two!"

Only then did the others snap back to reality, rushing forward to tear open the other two chrysalises.

"RIIIIP... RIIIIP! RIIIIP!"

They acted swiftly, tearing the two giant chrysalises open in moments. Two figures then appeared before them.

"I... I’m actually still alive!" The young man rescued from one chrysalis was overjoyed at his narrow escape.

The person in the other chrysalis, however, had unfortunately died. Their entire body was dehydrated, skin wrinkled, almost a desiccated corpse. It seemed their essence had been drained.

Only at this moment, upon seeing the desiccated corpse, did Su Yan truly feel the dangers of this world. Life was as insignificant as a feather, fate as common as wild grass. Every day, countless people died in various Demons and Monsters incidents. This was a world where human life was cheap.

"Where did that Rare-level Strange Tree go? Did everyone manage to kill it together?" the captain asked, having caught his breath a little.

"That Rare-level Strange Tree was killed with a single punch by the expert beside you," someone answered.

But the captain said incredulously, "Stop joking. That’s a Rare-level Creature. How could a student kill it with one punch?"

Suddenly, a WHOOSHING sound filled the air. The next moment, several enormous vines burst in from outside, snaring one person from the classroom and dragging them out.

"Save me! Save me..." The cries for help quickly faded.

The sight sent shivers down everyone’s spines.

"What’s happening!"

"Wasn’t that Strange Tree dead?"

"Why are there still vines!"

Soon, someone in the classroom broke down. They had barely dealt with one Strange Tree, and now another had seemingly appeared. How are we supposed to survive this?!

"Everyone, stay calm and follow my commands! Stick together, don’t let them pick us off one by one!" At this critical juncture, the captain began to exert his leadership, directing everyone’s defense.

However, Su Yan ignored his commands and started walking towards the classroom exit.

Seeing this, the captain grew anxious and hurriedly shouted, "Student, what are you doing? Going out there alone is suicide!"

"WHOOSH!"

Just then, a vine shot in from outside, heading straight for the isolated Su Yan.

Oh no! the captain cursed inwardly, sensing disaster. He lunged towards Su Yan, intending to intercept the vine.

However, before he could take two steps, Su Yan, walking unhurriedly ahead, casually raised his hand and precisely caught the vine barehanded.

A coincidence? The captain found it hard to believe.

But his skepticism vanished the next moment. Su Yan gave a fierce tug, and amidst a cacophony of crashing sounds, a Strange Tree covered in vines was violently yanked into the classroom from outside.

Then, with a loud BOOM, Su Yan delivered a ferocious punch. His fist struck the trunk of the Strange Tree, sending leaves and branches scattering everywhere.

"This..." The captain, witnessing this firsthand, was utterly stunned, his face a mask of horror.

Just one punch! And he blew up a Rare-level Strange Tree... Is this student a monster?
