Chapter 109: Blocked
Chapter 109: Blocked
Before Cecilia attended Steven’s birthday party, she was dressed in a simple T-shirt and jeans, only to be stopped by Emma.
"Mommy, are you planning to wear that to meet Dad?"
Cecilia looked down at what she was wearing and nodded. free.w e bn.ov(e)l(.)com
What was the problem? She always dressed up like this.
"No, no, Mommy! Although you’re always the prettiest, we can’t let other ladies steal the spotlight at Dad’s birthday party."
As she said that, Emma started rummaging through the wardrobe. After some time, she finally found a light green strapless dress.
"Mommy, wear this! I bet Dad will be captivated when he sees you!"
Cecilia wasn’t concerned whether Steven would be captivated by her. But after thinking it through, she realized that since he was a big CEO and the guests attending the party would be wealthy and high-status, her outfit might indeed seem a bit too casual.
‘Fine,’ she thought. ‘I’ll do it out of respect for him.’
She reached out and took the dress from Emma, changing into it. Even Emma was amazed by Cecilia’s beauty.
"Mommy, you look so beautiful!"
Cecilia playfully tapped Emma’s nose and replied with a smile, "Emma, you’re beautiful too!"
Although the dress was indeed beautiful, Cecilia hadn’t worn formal dresses in a long time. She found it difficult to maintain her posture, and her body was almost aching by the end of the day.
After returning to the hotel that evening, she couldn’t wait to take off the dress and shower before resting in bed.
She quickly fell asleep.
As a result, she didn’t see the message Steven had sent her. But Emma was too excited from celebrating Dad’s birthday for the first time, so she couldn’t fall asleep.
Upon hearing her mom’s phone ring, she picked it up and saw it was a message from Steven. With her little fingers, she typed out a reply for a bit. However, the phone suddenly died.
This left Steven with only a read receipt.
Emma looked at the dark screen and covered her forehead. Oh no...
Steven, in a fit of anger, blocked Cecilia.
How dare she ask to exchange contacts but then ignore him. That little girl, too—pretending Cecilia would be her gift to him, she was clearly lying!
‘Fine, if you read and don’t want to reply, then let’s just pretend as if we never exchanged contacts!’
By the next morning, Steven regretted it. He didn’t understand why he acted so childishly around Cecilia. His fingers hesitated on the screen about whether to unblock her.
However, unblocking someone after already blocking them was just too embarrassing...
Meanwhile, the first thing Emma did after waking up was to tell Cecilia that Steven had sent her a message last night. Cecilia opened her phone and saw that without her reply, Steven had sent another message an hour later.
It was an angry emoji.
She blinked. So, this old-fashioned guy knew how to use emojis.
She was about to send a message explaining last night’s situation when Emma eagerly grabbed the phone.
"Mommy, let me explain to Dad!"
With her small hands, she quickly typed on the phone.
[Dad, Mommy water last night, hand duck no point.]
Though young Emma knew many words, writing them all out after having just returned to the country was still a bit of a challenge. Moreover, being the naturally carefree spirit she was, her writing was... hard for most to understand.
But with Steven’s intelligence, he should understand it.
After sending the message, Emma got a notification saying, [This number has blocked you.]
Not understanding what this meant, she quickly showed it to Cecilia. Seeing it, Cecilia couldn’t help but chuckle.
Steven was really having a grudge with her over this.
"He blocked us."
Emma blinked her big eyes, somewhat confused.
"Why would Daddy block us?"
Cecilia put Emma’s little backpack on her, grabbing her hand as they left the hotel room.
"Maybe... he’s angry? Never mind; let’s focus on what we need to do first."
Initially, she had exchanged contacts with Steven to keep up with Alex’s activities. But, upon checking Steven’s posts, there were only three posts; all work-related. So, this outcome was fine. Since he had blocked her, she wouldn’t have to deal with his messages.
Emma heard what she said, unsure what she was thinking and muttering to herself as they walked.
"Next time I see Daddy, I’ll try to cheer him up..."
After they left, at the Lawrence family manor.
Amy routinely came to chat with Marianne.
Ever since she returned from abroad, she had been living at the Lawrence family manor.
Marianne, feeling guilty toward Amy’s mother, especially doted on her granddaughter.
After her surgery, she had been in recovery. Just as Cecilia previously mentioned, even after curing the illness, there was a chance her eyesight could still decline. Everything was initially fine, but recently it was true that her vision was getting a bit blurry. To avoid worrying Steven, she only said she was feeling unwell as an excuse to skip his birthday event.
Amy supported Marianne on a walk through the garden, and the old lady asked, "Amy, was everything alright at Steven’s birthday party yesterday?"
