Chapter 401: D149. Leaping through the darkness_2
The whiffing scorpion tail effortlessly pierced those stone pillars that remained sturdy despite the baptism of the years; the lingering magic creatures that couldn’t escape merely disintegrated upon being swept by that malicious wind, becoming fuel for an even more malevolent curse.
[Due to the ancient Curse Divine Throne, the Devouring Curse Demon gains an environmental bonus(32)]
These creatures residing in the ruins of the Sanctuary, while not necessarily all evil, have all been steeped in the miasma here for a long time.
Though the Devouring Curse Demon is not the Curse God of yore, as a Demon King Level being, it’s evidently an easy task to dominate this ancestral nest originating from the same source, as well as these frail magic creatures that coexist with the curse.
It was originally quite satisfied with these "offerings," but now, that satisfaction has entirely turned into hate and anger, born out of fear. No longer concerned with the integrity of its lair, it unleashed its full force in a furious assault on that frail figure.
Beneath this dark and profound earth’s crust, before this curse-infested and polluted Divine Throne, the Devouring Curse Demon undeniably thrives like a fish in water, truly the Dominator of this domain.
As a nest, this underground Sanctuary was even more ideal than the once intact Sanctuary located at the heart of the city.
Despite how the city-state that worshiped the Curse God fell into ruin, or how the Sanctuary came to be buried deep underground, the truth of history has long been buried by the weighty sands of time,
yet, considering there is a hidden passage leading directly to the outside world, it’s not hard to imagine rebels once storming in, pressing straight toward the Demon God.
But now, buried deep underground and having become a Secret Realm, the Sanctuary could no longer witness such a scene,
The vast armies of humankind could not lift the earth’s crust, and even a group of elite warriors, even Legendary Strongmen, would find no return in this demon’s home turf, where it had the confidence to prevail.
In such a uniquely advantageous environment, with careful management, it even had the confidence to ascend to a higher tier and to remind that Human Kingdom’s border city of their reverence for the Curse God.
But such bloated fantasies had not even begun their first step of implementation before being shattered by that human who was thought to be a Sacrifice, with a single punch.
When the curse that should corrode the enemy upon contact was dissolved by the light emanating from the human’s body, the Devouring Curse Demon felt a long-lost fear.
It had seen a similar scene before.
Even in its weaker juvenile phase, the Witch Demon Scorpion had virtually no natural predators, and few magic creatures regarded them, filled entirely with high concentrations of curses, as prey,
However, despite their potent ability to reproduce asexually, Witch Demon Scorpions remained scarce because they were their own predators.
Consuming their kind is an innate instinct of the Witch Demon Scorpion; only by magnifying the curse within can they break free from the constraints of their larval form, turn it into Armor, and evolve into something approaching a conceptual life form like the Devouring Curse Demon.
As such, they are extremely Perceptive to the scent of their kin.
Back then, shortly after advancing to the Demon King Level, it was targeted by an even stronger, Fantasy Species Level Devouring Curse Demon.
Even now, that tier remains an unattainable realm for it. To such a higher-tiered kin, ordinary curses or peers can hardly fill the belly; only those of the Demon King Level, like itself, could be considered a satisfying meal.
But naturally, it refused to sit still and be devoured, and so the two Devouring Curse Demons began a chase-and-run game.
During this long-lasting pursuit, they ventured deep into the heartland of the Human Kingdom; an act that should have been avoided by magic creatures deemed Disaster-Level by humans, but under the threat of life and the lure of delicious prey, both parties had no regard for this.
Having just ascended to Demon King Level, it still maintained basic caution, but that Fantasy-Level Demon Scorpion wasn’t so low-profile, rampaging through human settlements, consuming humans to replenish its energy, mercilessly slaughtering several villages, even sparing not Church Professionals that came to investigate.
Despite being the prey, the strength and ostentatiousness of its pursuer still filled it with envy.
And then, that woman appeared.
The reinforcement summoned by the Church, humankind’s strongest monster, the witch who called herself a Saintess.
To this day, it vividly recalls how that woman singlehandedly turned her kin into nothing but slag in the midst of a deadly Curse capable of wiping out all life within a hundred Li.
1. Blown to slag (physical)♛
2. Blown to slag (magic)
D2=d2(1)=1
Although that scene allowed it to escape the chase of its kin, it also plunged it into an endless Abyss of fear,
Managing to escape against all odds, it no longer dared to venture easily into human territories, only lingering on the Border of the Human Kingdom, even feeding with the utmost care, solely aiming not to be discovered, ready to flee into uninhabited areas outside of civilization at any slight disturbance.
But a long time after that, the terrifying Saintess did not come chasing.
The gradually complacent Devouring Curse Demon began to feel that it might not have been discovered back then.
And then, it received an ancient Summoning, known only in inherited memories.
Following that, it was reminded of the fear it had once felt in the presence of the human Saintess.
"—!"
The rolling Chaos uttered a Silent screech, material desire waves spread out, spewing forth the most venomous Curse.
