Chapter 200: D72. The Beginning of Darkness_2

Moreover, although the high-altitude threat was gradually increasing, the Female Adventurer could tell that the Hero, despite looking uncomfortable, seemed not to be too greatly affected.

"Don’t you want to talk? These two probably don’t have the energy, but if you can talk, it helps distract and feels much better."

"But we don’t really have the right to say anything to you.

"After all, we also came up without accepting any quests because the guild did not have any suitable commissions lately."

Before the Hero could respond, the leading Female Adventurer started complaining on her own.

"And there isn’t much good game around the city, and going to the front lines is too dangerous, so we could only come to the plateau to try our luck to see if we can kill a couple of Magic Creatures or find some rare materials."

At this point, the leading Female Adventurer’s eyes twinkled with a sly smile.

"If you have any good quests, if you’re willing to share some of the rewards, we wouldn’t mind lending a hand."

Hearing the Female Adventurer’s words, the Hero hesitated for a moment, but still remembered the Receptionist’s request and didn’t reveal his task of investigating the water source.

However, since the other party was initiating a conversation, although it was in such a bumpy carriage, the Hero still wrote down his response on paper.

1. Although saw the commission, did not have the eligibility to accept it, just came directly ♛

2. Just wanted to see the plateau as well.

After reading the Hero’s response, a glint flashed in the eyes of the leading Female Adventurer.

Yet, she did not say much, just casually continued chatting with the Hero.

"Speaking of it, although this plateau has vast waters, the source seems to be the same one."

The Female Adventurer opened the carriage window, the much colder wind than in the city fiercely poured into the carriage, making everyone much more alert, and the Hero’s hair even took on a hint of silver.

The vibration of the carriage also gradually smoothed out, the mountain road was not as steep as at the beginning,

This signified that they had passed the most challenging climbs and were gradually approaching the plateau’s flatlands.

Shortly after, the much grander checkpoint of the plateau, than ordinary inns, appeared in everyone’s view.

It was the largest man-made building on the plateau, serving both as an inn and a watchtower.

Beyond this point lay the uncharted lands of the wilderness.

Watching this scene, the Female Adventurer let out a long, emotional sigh.

"That’s only the beginning of the plateau, I wonder if I’ll ever have the chance to reach the end of the plateau, and see the source of the near-sky lakes and the Nine Heavens Waterfall?"

’Source?’

"What, you didn’t know?" Glancing at the words the Hero had written, the Female Adventurer said.

1. Snow mountain

2. Underground spring

3. Glacier

4. Mist Rain Cloud Forest

5. 1

6. 2

7. 3

9. Reverse Flow Sea ♛

Then, after a stable journey, the Chocobo Cart finally came to a stop.

Ignoring their slightly dizzy heads, everyone was eager to jump off the carriage, letting their feet once again touch the ground,

The icy and moist air of the plateau hit their faces, causing everyone to shiver.

But upon getting off the shaky carriage, the Hero’s first action was not to find a place to rest, but to look at his notes and recall what the Female Adventurer had just told him.

[Spectacle: Reverse Flow Sea]

On the other side of the plateau, lies the vast ocean.

But the law of water flowing from high to low is reversed here.

A massive counter-current waterfall rises from the great sea, forming a direct flood to the skies and turning into fresh water flowing into the Western Plateau.

To date, no ship has been able to break through this reversed sea current and reach the azure ocean below.

When explorers reach the very edge of the plateau, all they face is an endless horizon, and cliffs that even magic has trouble landing on,

as if that place were the ends of the earth, the sky’s limit, sea’s end.

Highland Inn.

This building, serving both as an inn and a fortress, was not as decrepit as imagined, but rather held a hint of grandeur, standing like a small castle as a symbol of humankind’s civilization atop this 3,000-meter high plateau.

Had it been a naive countryman with little exposure, just the sight of a castle in such a place would have made him exclaim in awe.

But in reality, for magical engineers, constructing a stronghold that can serve as a base, whether it’s on the plains or on a 3,000-meter plateau, isn’t very different.

Of course, the latter is definitely a bit more challenging.

They don’t need to go through mining, processing, or other tedious steps, nor do they need to transport over great distances, or require a large workforce for building.

Despite this, such powerful Spellcasters are rare and noble beings, but for the Border Count, this naturally wouldn’t pose a problem.

As for quality, the decades-old military encampment remains outside the Hero’s hometown show that the quality of magical buildings is still guaranteed.
