Chapter 693: Old Mr. Wu
Chapter 693: Chapter 693: Old Mr. Wu
2 Days later.
Wu Nian invited Yu Holea to the private jet.
It took them a few hours to reach the capital.
Qiao Jun had followed Yu Holea.
His reason?
"I can’t entrust you to others," Qiao Jun said while glaring at Wu Nian.
As soon as they reached the Wu Mansion, Wu Nian pushed them inside.
Old Mr. Wu was sitting on the sofa with a teacup in his hand. Though he was already 83, he still looked energetic.
Wu Nian walked up to him and greeted him,
"Good afternoon, grandfather."
Old Mr. Wu looked up from his teacup and smiled, his sharp eyes landing on Wu Nian.
"Ah, Nian is here." His voice was deep but warm. Then his gaze shifted to Yu Holea and Qiao Jun, who were standing awkwardly behind Wu Nian.
"And who are these two?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Wu Nian smiled and pulled Yu Holea forward. "This is Yu Holea, Grandpa. My friend."
Yu Holea gave a small bow. "Good afternoon, Mr. Wu."
Old Mr. Wu nodded, his eyes studying her for a moment before turning to Qiao Jun. Suddenly, he pointed at Qiao Jun as if he had recognized him,
"He...is...the Qiao Family’s second child, right? Did he agree to marry you?"
Wu Nian shook her head and gently explained,
"Grandpa, he already has a girlfriend and is planning to propose to her next month. Yu Holea is his girlfriend."
Qiao Jun smiled and nodded.
Old Mr. Wu’s expression turned grave before he said calmly,
"Then forget about inheriting the business. I already told you. You can only inherit the business if you marry Qiao Jun."
Wu Nian sighed, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly.
"Can you please consider my feelings too?"
Old Mr. Wu’s sharp eyes darted from Qiao Jun to Yu Holea, then back to Wu Nian.
He set his teacup down with a small clink, the sound echoing in the large room.
"I don’t care about your feelings," Old Mr. Wu said coolly, his voice firm and unyielding.
"This is about the family business. Feelings don’t matter when it comes to responsibility."
He cast a glance in Yu Holea’s direction and said in a firm voice,
"If someone is your friend, they would understand your situation and leave their boyfriend to you."
Yu Holea, who had been silent until now, suddenly said softly,
"I can’t give away my boyfriend. However, I can offer something completely different and valuable. I can summon your wife’s spirit. You can have a talk with her."
"Perpetuous." Old Mr. Wu’s entire face turned red from anger.
"Do you think you can fool me? My wife has been dead for more than a decade. None of the celestial masters have been able to summon her, and you are saying, you—a woman merely around 20—can do it?"
Yu Holea stood her ground, her eyes calm and steady. "I’m not lying, Mr. Wu. I can prove it to you."
Old Mr. Wu scoffed, waving his hand dismissively.
"Nonsense! I don’t have time for childish games."
But Wu Nian, curious and desperate to ease the tension, stepped in.
"Grandpa, what’s the harm in letting her try? If she’s lying, you can kick us out. But if she’s telling the truth... wouldn’t you want to talk to Grandma again?"
Old Mr. Wu’s eyes narrowed, the sharpness in his gaze softening just a little.
He stared at Yu Holea for a long moment, his fingers tapping the teacup.
Finally, he sighed.
"Fine. You’ve got one chance. But if you’re playing tricks on me, you’ll regret it."
Yu Holea nodded, unfazed.
"I’ll need a quiet room and something that belonged to your wife."
Old Mr. Wu barked a short laugh.
"You think I’d hand over her things to a stranger?"
Before he could continue, Wu Nian quickly said,
"Grandpa, please. Just this once. If she’s lying, I’ll take full responsibility."
Old Mr. Wu grumbled under his breath but finally waved his hand again. "Follow me."
They walked through the grand halls of the Wu Mansion, the walls lined with old portraits and expensive decorations.
Finally, they stopped in front of a heavy wooden door.
Old Mr. Wu pushed it open, revealing a small, dusty room filled with old furniture and photo frames.
He pointed to a small jewelry box on the dresser. "That’s hers. Do what you need."
Yu Holea walked over, her heart pounding but her face calm.
She opened the box and pulled out a delicate jade bracelet, worn smooth from years of use.
Old Mr. Wu and Wu Nian watched silently, unsure of what to expect.
Yu Holea closed her eyes and whispered softly under her breath, her fingers tracing the jade. The room grew quiet, the air heavy and still.
Suddenly, the temperature dropped.
A cold breeze swept through the room even though all the windows were closed.
The lights flickered.
Old Mr. Wu’s eyes widened, his mouth falling slightly open.
Then, a faint, shimmering figure began to appear in the corner of the room. It was a woman, her face kind and familiar. She looked exactly like the woman in the portraits lining the mansion.
"Jin...?" Old Mr. Wu whispered, his voice trembling.
The spirit of Old Mrs. Wu smiled gently. "It’s me, Cheng."
Old Mr. Wu took a shaky step forward, his eyes filling with tears. "How... how is this possible?"
Yu Holea opened her eyes, her voice was soft but firm. "I told you I could do it."
The room fell into stunned silence, the weight of the moment settling over them like a blanket.
Old Mr. Wu stared at his wife’s spirit, his tough exterior crumbling. "I... I miss you so much."
Old Mrs. Wu’s spirit smiled warmly.
"I know, Cheng. But you must stop forcing others to carry burdens that aren’t theirs. Let Nian live her life."
Old Mr. Wu’s face twisted with emotion, his lips trembling. "But... the business... our legacy..."
Old Mrs. Wu shook her head gently. "Legacy is important, but not at the cost of happiness. You taught our children to be strong, now let them be free."
Old Mr. Wu’s eyes turned moist before he said softly,
"I...I will follow you soon."
"Take your time. I am waiting for you on the other side." Old Mrs. Wu said softly.
She turned toward Wu Nian,
"You have grown up."
Wu Nian’s eyes turned mist and she nodded her with difficulty.
"Good. Take good care of yourself. And don’t take your grandfather’s words to heart. He may seem mean-spirited but he loves you a lot." Old Mrs. Wu chuckled.
Wu Nian nodded, a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
Old Mr. Wu pouted and protested,
"I am not mean-spirited."
Old Mrs. Wu shook her head. Suddenly she looked at her fading hand and looked at Old Mr. Wu,
"Let’s meet in the next lifetime."
"Didn’t you say you were going to wait for me?" Old Mr. Wu panicked. He genuinely loved his wife.
"Looks like my time to get reincarnated has arrived." Old Mrs. Wu answered. "Don’t worry, I will wait for you."
Old Mr. Wu nodded, tears slipping from his eyes.
The spirit slowly began to fade, leaving behind a cold silence.
Old Mr. Wu stood there for a long moment, staring at the empty space where his wife had been. Finally, he turned to Yu Holea, his eyes softer but still sharp.
"You... you really did it."
Yu Holea nodded quietly.
Old Mr. Wu let out a long breath and then, to everyone’s surprise, he chuckled—a low, dry laugh. "You’ve got guts, girl."
Then he turned to Wu Nian and sighed deeply.
"Fine. You win. I won’t force you to marry Qiao Jun. But you better find someone worthy of this family."
Wu Nian grinned, relief washing over her. "Thanks, Grandpa."
Old Mr. Wu gave one last glance at Yu Holea before leaving the room without another word.
As soon as he was gone, Wu Nian turned to Yu Holea, her eyes wide. "You were amazing! How did you even do that?"
Yu Holea just smiled mysteriously. "Let’s just say I have my ways."
Qiao Jun shook his head, a small smile on his lips.
Wu Nian was about to hug Yu Holea when Qiao Jun intercepted Wu Nian and calmly pulled Yu Holea behind himself.
"No ma’am, she is my girlfriend for your information." Qiao Jun reminded.
Wu Nian rolled her eyes and looked at Yu Holea with an intense look in her eyes,
"You know, you are totally my type, if he hadn’t met you, by now you would have become my girlfriend."
Qiao Jun gritted his teeth and turned his head toward Yu Holea.
Looking at her innocent black eyes, sexy plump lips, small nose, perfectly shaped eyes, well-defined eyebrows, and silver hair, he felt a sense of crisis in his heart.
His little bunny has become a fully grown woman, if he delays any further, god knows who will snatch her away.
