Chapter 663: Scam

Chapter 663: Chapter 663: Scam

Yu Holea described the location she had seen in her dream and asked,

"How much time will it require?"

Qiao Jun thought for a while and replied,

"From your description, there are several locations. I will try to get it done in a week."

Yu Holea nodded, "Alright then. I will wait for your reply."

Qiao Jun chuckled, " Please prepare payment in advance ma’am."

"Sure sir."

............

Yu Holea finished her worshipping routine. Message Qiao Li as she does daily and then head out to the shooting location.

Meanwhile, Yu Mei who received the photo of Qiao Jun and Yu Holea being together, almost wanted to slap Qiao Heng.

She had visited Qiao Heng quite a few times and hoped that Qiao Heng would intervene in Yu Holea and Qiao Jun’s relationship.

Each time Qiao Heng would have a dazed look whenever she tried to influence him, but even then, that b*stard didn’t take any action.

Yu Mei decided to change her tactics and started to target the Qiao family.

Her first target was Cai Bao.

Cai Bao was like a head of the family. As long as she opposes Yu Holea’s entry into the Qiao family even Qiao Jun will have to back down.

At the same time she messaged, the assistant to take action against Yu Shuchang.

The dark lord was urging for the second sacrifice.

But the first thing she had to do was to get Cai Bao’s schedule, which she had asked her subordinate to get.

"Cai Bao’s schedule is quite predictable," one of her assistants had written. "She visits different temples almost every day, especially in the mornings. She’s known for her devotion and often stays for hours, talking with monks and offering prayers."

Yu Mei’s lips curled into a sly smile.

Yu Mei’s plan was simple: she would "accidentally" meet Cai Bao at one of the temples and show her most gentle and humble side.

She would talk about how much she admired the elderly, her love for traditional values, and her respect for family.

Once the image solidifies, she will start to ruin Yu Holea’s image.

The next morning, Yu Mei woke up early.

She wore a light pink dress that made her look soft and approachable.

Her hair was neatly tied in a low bun, and she wore minimal makeup to appear more natural.

She carefully picked a small basket filled with fruits and flowers, intending to use it as her temple offering.

Everything about her appearance screamed "gentle and kind-hearted."

Her driver already knew the plan.

"Take me to the Xianfu Temple," she instructed. "That’s where Cai Bao will be this morning."

The ride to the temple was smooth, and Yu Mei spent the time rehearsing her lines in her head.

Yu Mei arrived at Xianfu Temple early in the morning.

The soft chime of the temple bells and the faint scent of incense filled the air, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

She glanced around, her eyes scanning the small crowd of devotees.

She spotted Cai Bao, an elderly woman in an elegant but simple outfit, slowly walking toward the temple steps, holding a prayer bead in her hand.

Yu Mei’s lips curled into a subtle smile. Perfect timing.

Standing near the temple gate was a man dressed in ragged clothes—her hired beggar. He had been briefed well on what to do.

As soon as Yu Mei caught his eye, she gave a small, almost imperceptible nod.

The beggar immediately sprang into action.

He shuffled toward Yu Mei, his hands outstretched, his voice loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.

"Miss, please, help me!" the beggar cried, his voice trembling with desperation.

"I haven’t eaten in days. My wife is sick, and my children are starving. We lost everything in a fire!"

Yu Mei’s expression softened as she turned to the beggar.

Her voice was gentle but clear enough for Cai Bao and the other onlookers to hear.

"Oh no, that’s terrible," Yu Mei said, her eyes glistening as if she might cry.

She opened her purse and handed the man a generous amount of cash.

"Here, take this," she said, her tone kind and warm.

"Use it to buy food and medicine for your family."

The beggar fell to his knees, clutching the money as if it were a treasure.

"Thank you, Miss! You’re an angel!" he exclaimed, his voice breaking with gratitude.

The scene drew the attention of several people nearby.

"What a kind-hearted young lady," one elderly woman whispered.

"She’s so generous," another added.

Cai Bao paused mid-step, her gaze fixed on Yu Mei.

She nodded approvingly, her expression calm but clearly impressed.

Yu Mei noticed Cai Bao’s reaction and felt a surge of triumph.

Step one, complete.

Just as the onlookers began to disperse, another commotion arose from the opposite side of the temple courtyard.

A second beggar, equally ragged and disheveled, stumbled into view.

He looked around frantically before his eyes landed on a woman dressed in a flowing white dress.

The woman seemed poised and graceful, much like Yu Mei had aimed to appear.

"Madam, please help me!" the second beggar wailed, his voice eerily similar to the first.

"I haven’t eaten in days. My wife is sick, and my children are starving. We lost everything in a fire!"

The crowd immediately fell silent, their eyes darting between the two beggars.

The woman in the white dress and the second beggar had appeared when the onlookers were about to disperse, and hence they didn’t know that someone had already stolen their script.

Yu Mei froze, her smile stiffening as she realized the second beggar was telling the exact same story as the first.

The woman in the white dress, seemingly unaware of the growing tension, reached into her bag and handed the second beggar some money.

She spoke softly, her words meant to comfort him, but her voice was barely audible over the murmurs of the crowd.

"Wait a minute," someone in the crowd said, breaking the silence.

"Isn’t that the same story the first beggar told?"

A man frowned, crossing his arms.

"Yeah, the fire, the sick wife, the starving kids. It’s identical."

The crowd began to stir, their whispers growing louder.

"Are they trying to scam people?" another voice questioned.

Some people shot suspicious looks at the woman in white, while others turned their attention back to Yu Mei.

Yu Mei felt a wave of panic rise in her chest, but she quickly masked it with a confused expression. She turned to the first beggar and said loudly, "What’s going on? Did you lie about your story?"

The first beggar caught off guard, stammered, "N-No, miss! I swear, I was telling the truth!"

The second beggar, realizing the situation, tried to defend himself as well. "It’s not a lie! I really need help!"

But the damage was done. The crowd’s initial admiration for Yu Mei’s kindness turned into skepticism.

"Something’s fishy," a young man muttered.

"Both their stories are exactly the same. What are the odds?" an elderly woman added, shaking her head.

The first beggar’s eyes widened in shock as he recognized the second beggar.

"Hey, you! What are you doing here? This is my area!" he barked, pointing an accusing finger.

The second beggar frowned and crossed his arms.

"I could ask you the same thing! This isn’t your area. You have no right to claim it!"

"This is my spot!" the first beggar snapped. "You’ve got plenty of other places to go. Because of you, my client’s performance has been affected!"

"Well, I can say the same!" Thes second beggar shouted.

Their voices grew louder, drawing more attention from the crowd. The onlookers exchanged bewildered glances as the two beggars began to argue heatedly.

"What’s going on here?" someone asked, stepping closer.

"It looks like these two beggars know each other," another muttered.

Yu Mei and the woman in the white dress stood frozen, their faces pale. Yu Mei’s confident smile from earlier was completely gone, replaced by a look of sheer disbelief.

The murmurs among the crowd quickly turned into open discussions.

"Wait a minute," an elderly man said, his brows furrowing. "Why were both of these women helping beggars with the exact same sob story?"

"Yeah, it’s like they planned it," a younger woman chimed in. "What if they’re working together to scam people?"

Several people pulled out their phones, some recording the scene, while others appeared to be dialing numbers.

Yu Mei’s heart raced as she heard someone say, "I’m calling the police. This feels like a setup."

"Wait, wait!" Yu Mei exclaimed, raising her hands defensively. "I don’t know what’s happening! I was just trying to help someone in need!"

The woman in the white dress stammered, "Me too! I had no idea there was another beggar here!"

An older woman in the crowd crossed her arms and said, "Maybe they weren’t trying to scam money. Maybe they were trying to impress someone important." Her eyes narrowed.
