Chapter 624: Chapter 624: Old Mrs. Yu’s Visit

With that, he left without sparing her a glance.

Yu Mei seethed with frustration, her body aching from the earlier beating as Qiao Jun’s cold and indifferent presence loomed fresh in her mind.

She was furious, humiliated, and, most of all, unwilling. Why did Yu Holea get the best? What made her deserving of a man like Qiao Jun?

Her nails dug into her palms as she whispered venomously to herself,

"Why does she get everything? Qiao Jun, wealth, power... even protection. What do I get? Leng Huan, a man who doesn’t even dare to stand up for me?"

The mere thought of Leng Huan made her stomach churn.

He might have claimed to like her, but he never defended her against Yu Holea.

He never fought for her the way Qiao Jun fought for his fiancée.

The comparison between the two men only deepened her bitterness, and an insidious thought began to form in her mind.

If Yu Holea could have Qiao Jun, why couldn’t she?

However, a flicker of fear remained. Qiao Jun’s warning was crystal clear: he would destroy her if she dared to harm Yu Holea again.

The memory of his calm yet terrifying demeanor made her shiver. She knew better than to provoke him directly.

Gritting her teeth, Yu Mei canceled her current plans.

She called her subordinates and ordered them to stop targeting Yu Holea.

"Call it off," she said, her voice sharp. "Do not touch her. Understand?"

Her subordinates hesitated, but she barked at them until they complied.

As she ended the call, she muttered under her breath,

"For now, I’ll play it safe. But this isn’t over, Yu Holea."

Her mind raced, searching for a way to strike indirectly.

She needed to ensure that any consequences wouldn’t be traced back to her. Suddenly, an idea struck her.

If she couldn’t harm Yu Holea outright, she could make her life miserable in other ways—through family.

Yu Mei picked up her phone and called the one person she knew would support her: Old Mrs. Yu, the family matriarch. She put on her best pitiful voice, sobbing dramatically as the call connected.

"Grandmother," Yu Mei whimpered, letting her voice break for effect. "I... I didn’t know who else to call. I’m so upset..."

"Yu Mei?" Old Mrs. Yu’s voice crackled over the line, full of concern. "What happened, child? Why are you crying?"

"It’s... it’s Yu Holea," Yu Mei sniffled, her voice trembling. "She sent Qiao Jun, her ex-fiance, a powerful big shot, to... to teach me a lesson."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, followed by a sharp intake of breath. "What?" Old Mrs. Yu exclaimed.

"Yu Holea sent that man to you? What for?"

"She knows..." Yu Mei hesitated, then pushed on,

"She knows I like Qiao Jun. But instead of being considerate, she sent him to humiliate me. She probably wanted me to feel small, knowing I could never compare to her."

Old Mrs. Yu’s tone turned icy.

"That beast! How dare she? Yu Holea has always been selfish, but this is too much. Sending her ex-fiancé to intimidate you? She has no shame!"

Yu Mei bit back a triumphant smile and pressed on.

"I didn’t want to tell you, Grandmother, but I just couldn’t keep it to myself. She’s been so cruel, and now she’s using Qiao Jun to bully me. I don’t know what to do..."

Old Mrs. Yu growled with indignation.

"I’ll deal with that ungrateful brat myself. She thinks she can throw her weight around just because she had Qiao Jun’s favor?

Nonsense! She’s single now, and it’s high time she’s married off to someone who can straighten her out!"

Yu Mei’s heart leaped.

This was exactly the reaction she’d been hoping for.

"Oh, Grandmother," she said, sniffling, "you’re so wise. Yu Holea could really use a strict husband who can teach her some discipline."

Old Mrs. Yu’s voice grew thoughtful.

"You’re absolutely right. Someone strong and no-nonsense. Someone who won’t tolerate her arrogance."

Yu Mei smiled slyly, encouraging the matriarch further.

"You always have the best judgment, Grandmother. I’m sure whoever you choose will be perfect for her."

"I’ve already got a few in mind," Old Mrs. Yu said, her tone brightening as she began listing names.

"There’s Mr. Zhang from the village—the one with the booming construction business. He’s a bit older, yes, but he’s got money, and his temper will keep Yu Holea in check."

Yu Mei’s eyes gleamed with malice as she chimed in,

"Mr. Zhang is such a good choice! He’s experienced, and Yu Holea would be lucky to marry someone with his business acumen."

"Exactly," Old Mrs. Yu said, pleased with Yu Mei’s support.

"Then there’s Mr. Liu, the retired army officer. He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he’d keep her in line."

"Oh, Grandmother," Yu Mei said, feigning admiration, "you’re truly thinking of Yu Holea’s best interests. A man like Mr. Liu would ensure she becomes a proper, obedient wife."

"And don’t forget Mr. Wang," Old Mrs. Yu continued, warming to the subject.

"He’s a widower with three children, but he’s looking for a new wife to help with the household. Yu Holea could use some humility, raising someone else’s kids."

Yu Mei clapped her hands in mock delight.

"That’s such a thoughtful choice, Grandmother! Yu Holea should be grateful for the opportunity to show her nurturing side."

Old Mrs. Yu chuckled, clearly enjoying the praise.

"You’re right. I’m doing this for her own good. She’s been spoiled for too long. A husband like one of these will teach her some respect and responsibility."

Yu Mei nodded fervently, though Old Mrs. Yu couldn’t see her.

"Yu Holea should be thanking you for all your effort, Grandmother. You’re truly generous to even consider such outstanding candidates for her."

Old Mrs. Yu beamed, her voice brimming with pride.

"You’re such a good child, Yu Mei. Always thinking of the family. Unlike that ungrateful Yu Holea."

Yu Mei smiled to herself, satisfied. She’d planted the seeds of her plan.

If Old Mrs. Yu could push one of these horrible matches onto Yu Holea, it would ruin her life without Yu Mei having to lift a finger.

Yu Mei’s lips curled into a malicious smile as she thought to herself, This is only the beginning.

...............

The next day arrived, and the peaceful morning at Yu Holea’s villa was interrupted by a cacophony of sharp doorbell rings.

Yu Holea was in the kitchen, her apron on, stirring a pot of soup. Frowning, she set down the ladle and wiped her hands on a towel, heading to the door.

As she peered through the peephole, she was startled to see none other than Old Mrs. Yu, standing outside with a wooden stick in hand.

Beside her was Yu Mei, dressed impeccably as if she were heading to a photoshoot. Yu Mei’s expression carried her usual haughty smirk.

Yu Holea’s eyebrows furrowed. Why is Old Mrs. Yu here? And with Yu Mei of all people?

Through the door, she asked cautiously, "Old Madam, what brings you here?"

Old Mrs. Yu, due to her failing hearing, didn’t catch the question. Instead, she turned to Yu Mei, confused. "What did she say?"

Yu Mei’s smirk deepened. With a raised voice, she shouted for the benefit of both Old Mrs. Yu and the audience she had on her live stream,

"Grandmother is here to visit you, Holea! She just wants to have a friendly chat. And guess what? I’m live streaming this moment. My fans are excited to meet you!"

At the mention of a live stream, Yu Holea’s eyes narrowed.

She understood the veiled threat.

If she didn’t open the door, Yu Mei would spin the narrative to make her look bad, potentially causing unnecessary trouble.

Letting out a sigh, she unlocked and opened the door.

Before she could say anything, Old Mrs. Yu shoved her aside with surprising force, marching straight into the villa as though she owned the place.

Yu Mei followed, her phone angled to capture the entire scene.

"What a tiny villa," Old Mrs. Yu sniffed as she glanced around, the corners of her mouth turned downward in obvious disdain.

"And to think my you live in such a shabby place. How pitiful. Are you that poor now, Yu Holea?"

Yu Holea raised an eyebrow at the insult, her patience already wearing thin. Crossing her arms, she replied with a sharp edge in her voice,

"If you think my villa is too small, Grandmother, you’re welcome to leave."

Yu Mei quickly stepped in, feigning concern.

"Holea, don’t take Grandmother’s words the wrong way. She didn’t mean anything bad by it. She’s just worried about you."

Old Mrs. Yu frowned, her lips parting as though to rebuke Yu Mei’s interpretation, but Yu Mei subtly gestured toward her phone.

Catching the hint, Old Mrs. Yu swallowed her initial response and forced a warm smile.

"Yes, yes," Old Mrs. Yu said, her tone suddenly soft.

"Holea, come sit with us. We have something important to discuss."

Suspicious but curious, Yu Holea led them into the living room.
