Chapter 622: Visiting Yu Mei

Chapter 622: Chapter 622: Visiting Yu Mei

"You’ve already answered my questions, and I’m giving you a head start on your lifetime of waiting. Now, go rest."

"But I rest better when I’m with you," he countered, his voice dipping into a pleading tone.

"Jun," she said, her voice firm but her eyes softening just enough to show she wasn’t angry. "Go."

He hesitated, glancing between her and the door, clearly weighing his options.

Finally, under her watchful gaze, he sighed heavily and stood up, dragging his feet toward the exit as though it physically pained him to leave.

When he reached the doorway, he turned back one last time, his hand resting on the frame.

His eyes met hers, and he gave her the most pitiful, longing look she had ever seen.

"Goodnight, Lea," he said, his voice low and mournful.

"Goodnight, Jun," she replied, her tone unwavering but the corners of her lips twitching.

As he finally disappeared down the hallway, Yu Holea shook her head, amused and exasperated in equal measure.

She climbed under the covers, a small smile lingering on her lips.

The fear she felt earlier seemed to have vanished and she slept peacefully.

On the other hand, Qiao Jun who had worn a puppy face till leaving the room, suddenly showed a cold expression and took out his phone.

He dialed his assistant’s number and in a cold voice ordered,

"Get ready we are going to take action against someone."

................

In Yu Mei’s villa.

Yu Mei reclined on her luxurious velvet couch, her manicured fingers lazily twirling a strand of her glossy black hair as she glanced at the phone in her other hand. The screen lit up with the caller ID: Brother Leng.

She picked up the call, her voice taking on a syrupy tone.

"Brother Leng? Are you missing me?" she cooed, her tone dripping with false warmth.

On the other end, Leng Huan’s gentle laughter came through, his baritone voice calm yet affectionate.

"Of course, I am, Mei’er," he said smoothly.

"I was just thinking about you. And I also wanted to thank you for that tip about investing in the land deal. I followed your advice, and guess what? I made a profit of two billion yuan."

Yu Mei’s eyes gleamed, but her face remained impassive. Still, her voice took on a delighted lilt, masking the calculated coldness in her heart.

"Really? That’s amazing, Brother Leng!" she said with an exaggerated excitement that sounded genuine.

"I’m so happy for you! Two billion... That’s incredible."

Leng Huan chuckled again, clearly pleased by her enthusiastic response.

"It’s all thanks to you, Mei’er. You’re brilliant," he said. His tone shifted slightly, becoming more earnest.

"Actually, Mei’er, I’ve been thinking... since everything is going so well, why don’t we prepone our engagement? I don’t want to wait any longer to call you my fiancée."

Yu Mei’s heart twisted with a sneer that didn’t reach her lips. Prepone? she thought disdainfully.

As if I’d tie myself to you so soon. You’re useful, Brother Leng, but you’re not indispensable.

Outwardly, though, her expression softened, and her voice carried a hint of emotion.

"Brother Leng, you know how much that means to me," she began, pausing for effect.

"But... I want to stand beside you as an equal. Someone you can be proud of in every way."

Leng Huan frowned slightly on the other end.

"Mei’er, you’re already incredible. Why wait? We can grow together."

Yu Mei shook her head, her tone becoming wistful.

"No, Brother Leng," she insisted gently.

"I’ve decided—I want to reach the peak of my acting career first. When I win the Best Actress award, then... then I’ll feel worthy to stand beside you."

Her words carried a subtle, self-deprecating weight, enough to tug at Leng Huan’s emotions.

"But that will take years," he said, his frustration leaking into his tone. "Five years, at least!"

Yu Mei pouted slightly, her voice turning coy and playful.

"Five years? Brother Leng, don’t you have faith in me?" she teased. "I’ll do it in just two years. For you."

In her heart, however, her thoughts were entirely different.

Two years is more than enough. With the help of the devil I worship, I’ll rise to the top faster than anyone expects. I’ll make it happen.

Leng Huan considered her recent rapid climb in the entertainment industry—the awards, the buzz, and her skyrocketing popularity in just five months.

He smiled to himself, nodding unconsciously.

"You’re right, Mei’er," he said warmly. "If anyone can do it, it’s you. And I’ll be cheering for you every step of the way."

Yu Mei’s lips curled into a small, satisfied smile at his gullibility, though her tone remained sweet.

"Thank you, Brother Leng," she said softly.

He chuckled, his voice dipping into a flirtatious timbre.

"So, when can I see you again? It feels like forever since we last met."

Yu Mei’s expression tightened for a moment, her patience wearing thin.

But she quickly composed herself, her voice taking on a slightly regretful tone.

"Brother Leng, I want to see you too," she said, the sweetness in her voice enough to melt most men’s hearts.

"But my schedule is so packed lately. Photoshoots, interviews, rehearsals—you know how it is. I barely have time to breathe."

Leng Huan sighed, disappointment evident but accepting.

"I understand, Mei’er," he said gently.

"You’re working so hard, and I admire that about you. But don’t push yourself too much, okay? Let me know when you’re free, and I’ll clear my schedule for you."

"Of course," she said with a soft laugh, her tone tender. "I’ll call you as soon as I have time, I promise."

As she ended the call, her expression turned cold and impatient. Yu Mei tossed the phone onto the table with a faint sneer, her earlier warmth evaporating like smoke.

"Pathetic," she muttered to herself, glancing at her reflection in the nearby mirror. Her lips curled into a self-satisfied smirk.

"Two years is all I need," she whispered, her eyes gleaming with ambition and malice. "And after that... no one will stand in my way."

Her phone on the table lit up.

Yu Mei’s eyes flashed and she clicked on the receiving button asking,

"Is the work done?"

"Yes, Ma’am. Just like you asked. We booked the hotel room no. 234 and in the room no. 233, Mr. Mu will be there. He absolutely hates women who try to climb in his bed."

A grin formed on Yu Mei’s face and she continued.

"What about the other plan?"

"It is working smoothly too."

"Great." Yu Mei feeling satisfied gave some more instructions and hung up.

With a swagger in her walk, she soon reached her room and lay on her bed. Within a few minutes, she fell asleep.

At night.

The cold splash of water hit Yu Mei’s face with a shocking force, jerking her from her peaceful slumber.

Her heart raced as she gasped, her eyes snapping open in a panic.

The room around her seemed disorienting in the dim light, and before she could even fully process what had just happened, she noticed the presence of several imposing figures standing at the foot of her bed.

She blinked, her vision clearing, and realized there were at least ten bodyguards surrounding her, all dressed in dark suits, their expressions unreadable.

The cold fear that gripped her chest was momentary—her instincts kicked in immediately.

With a fluid motion, she pushed herself upright, her muscles tense, her eyes scanning the room for any escape route.

Despite the sheer number of men, her gaze remained sharp, and her lips parted in anger.

"What is this?!" she demanded, her voice cutting through the heavy silence. "What do you want? Who are you, and what are you doing in my room?"

Her heart pounded, but her mind was racing even faster, trying to make sense of this intrusion.

The leader of the group, a tall man with a stern face, took a step forward, his cold voice breaking the tense air.

"We’re here to collect some debts," he said, his tone flat and emotionless.

Yu Mei’s eyes narrowed. Debts?

Just as she was about to demand more answers, the bodyguards parted, and that’s when she saw him—Qiao Jun.

The moment her eyes landed on him, her breath hitched.

He was tall, impeccably dressed, his dark hair neatly styled.

His skin was fair, almost porcelain-like, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to gleam with a cold, calculating intelligence that sent a shiver down her spine.

His mere presence in the room had a weight to it, and for the first time in a long time, Yu Mei found herself struck by someone’s beauty.

She couldn’t help but admire the way he carried himself—regal, untouchable, and so... undeniably handsome.

It took her a moment to regain her composure, but her thoughts were quick to follow.

He is Qiao Jun, right? He’s Yu Holea’s ex-fiancé, the one who shattered her heart. And now here he is, standing in front of me.
