Chapter 494: Merchant Lei
Chapter 494: Chapter 494: Merchant Lei
For Yu Holea, possessing a supply of rhodium would be an enormous asset.
"Yes, Rhodium. It’s the rarest of metals and fetches a high price in your world. With it, you can secure a comfortable life for yourself and those you care about," the goddess explained.
Yu Holea was taken aback. The offer was tempting, more than she could have ever imagined.
"I will pay you 4 kg of rhodium per week."
16 kg of rhodium per month?
That would be equivalent to 960k dollars and in Chinese yuan, it would be 67 million yuan!
Not to mention that with each passing day, the price of rhodium would increase exponentially!
Along with all the benefits...it was truly a dream job!
"Candidate Qilin, do you accept my offer?" the goddess asked.
"I accept," Yu Holea said, her eyes shining with delight.
She wished she could start right away.
"Then I will leave the work to you. Take care of your health." The goddess said and left.
Take care.
The goddess is truly a warm person!
Not only was she giving her such an amazing job, but she also asked her to take care of her!
Such a caring boss.
Only Lira and Sir Aldric glanced at Yu Holea with a complicated expression on their face.
No one other than the candidates knew how difficult the job was.
"Candidate Qilin you leave, I want to have a private conversation with Miss Lira and Mister Aldric." The goddess said.
Yu Holea glanced at Lira and Sir Aldric, and only when they nodded did she leave.
The goddess couldn’t help but smile.
Was she not going to leave if they didn’t nod?
’She was also like this...’ The goddess thought.
The moment Yu Holea left, the goddess stared at Lira and Sir Aldric,
"I hope that both of you will not say things that should be not mentioned."
Lira and Sir Aldric nodded simultaneously.
"Also..."
................
Yu Holea walked back to her villa.
She wasn’t curious about the goddess’s, her assistant’s, and her knight’s conversation. She had her plans and her sources.
Once in her villa, Yu Holea gently took out her mask and placed it on the table. At the same time, she took out a diary from one of the drawers and wrote about her day.
After getting a shower, she reported her well-being to the Yu family and the Qiao Family.
Like every night, Qiao Li called her and Yu Holea could see Qiao Jun through her phone.
"Good night." She muttered in a small voice and closed her eyes.
........................
When Yu Holea opened her eyes, she was in her bed at the Qiao Mansion.
"Good morning Lea." A familiar soft voice called her out.
Yu Holea looked to her left in slight surprise, only to find Qiao Jun.
His handsome face was still the same. His eyes were filled with gentleness. Maybe it was because he had just woken up, but his aura was somewhat lazy.
Charming.
That was what Yu Holea thought of current Qiao Jun.
"I heard that you have got your mask." Qiao Jun asked in a slow tone.
"Hm." Yu Holea answered her eyes never left Qiao Jun’s even for a moment.
"Congratulations." A small smile appeared on Qiao Jun’s face.
Yu Holea smiled, but a hint of bitterness was visible in it. Even her eyes turned red and teary.
"What do you want for a gift?" Qiao Jun asked.
"Anything is fine." Yu Holea continued.
"Okay, I will get it for you." Qiao Jun said with a bright smile.
They had a long conversation, but Yu Holea felt bitterness in her heart throughout the entire time.
....................
The next day.
Yu Holea woke up and touched her slightly moist eyelashes. She closed her eyes and as if resetting a computer, she took a deep breath and got out of bed, ready to face her new responsibilities.
She couldn’t afford to dwell on her dreams, no matter how bittersweet they were.
Once outside her villa, Yu Holea saw Lira and Sir Aldric who were busy gossiping about something.
Her lips twitched.
"Cough. Cough."
The sound of coughing attracted the attention of Lira and Sir Aldric, who instantly greeted Yu Holea.
"Good morning, my lady."
"Good morning. Shall we go?"
"Yes!" Lira nodded.
Soon three of them reached the Justice Hall.
Looking at the empty hall, Yu Holea’s gaze for a fraction of a second flickered toward the cauldron.
Scenes of punishment of nine goddesses were being played.
Yu Holea calmly withdrew her gaze and sat on the throne belonging to her.
Maybe because Qilin was more powerful than Phoenix or maybe because she was acknowledged by the heavens because her throne which was previously far away from the head seat, now replaced the head seat.
(Author: The head seat is the top seat, representing the top candidates. Earlier the phoenix-masked woman sat on it.)
How did she know that it was her seat? Every seat has a animal engraved on it. Her Qilin seat was at the very center.
Once Yu Holea sat down on her throne, Lira passed a small piece of paper to Yu Holea and said,
"This the oath of duty, please read it loud and make oath, only then would you be able to start with work."
Without any hesitation, Yu Holea took the notes and read the content.
"Today marks the beginning of my duties as the Qilin Candidate," She began, "I vow to uphold the principles of justice and fairness in all our proceedings."
A white light enveloped her. By the time the white light faded, a few minutes had already passed.
"My lady from where would you like to begin? Goddess city’s matter or the earth’s matter?"
"Let’s start with goddess city’s matter first." Yu Holea said.
"Understood," Lira replied and clicked on a blue button behind the throne.
Whoosh.
The door to the Justice hall was opened.
The first case of the day involved a merchant accused of embezzling funds from the city’s treasury.
The evidence was substantial, and the merchant’s nervous demeanor did little to help his cause.
As the trial proceeded, Yu Holea listened intently to both sides, weighing the arguments carefully.
"Merchant Lei," she said finally, her voice firm but fair,
"the evidence against you is overwhelming. You have betrayed the trust placed in you by the city.
Your punishment will be severe, but just. You are hereby sentenced to return the embezzled funds and serve five years of hard labor."
The merchant paled but nodded in acceptance, knowing there was no room for appeal. The verdict was final, and justice had been served.
He could only leave.
Yu Holea watched calmly as merchant Lei left.
Who would have thought that a big city like Goddess City would have spiritual animals and different races as its residents?
This merchant Lei was in fact a fox spirit!
"Next case," she ordered, ready to continue.
A young woman stepped forward, her eyes filled with worry.
She was a fairy named Liora, accused of using forbidden magic to alter the outcomes of trade agreements.
As Liora presented her defense, Yu Holea noticed the desperation in her voice. It was clear that Liora believed she had no other choice but to use the forbidden magic.
"I didn’t mean to cause harm," Liora pleaded.
"My family was starving, and I needed the extra income to keep them alive. The deals I altered were only to ensure we could survive."
Even fairy’s straves?
Yu Holea found it too surreal.
Yu Holea’s heart softened at the fairy’s plight.
She understood the desperation that could drive someone to make poor choices, but she also knew that rules were in place for a reason.
"Liora," Yu Holea began, "your circumstances are indeed tragic, but using forbidden magic is a serious offense.
The integrity of our trade agreements is essential to the city’s stability. However, considering your motives, I will be lenient in your punishment."
Liora’s eyes widened in hope.
"You are sentenced to community service for six months, during which you will work to support those in need.
This way, you can still help your family while atoning for your actions."
Liora bowed deeply, tears streaming down her face.
"Thank you, Candidate Qilin. I promise to make amends."
"Hm." Yu Holea nodded.
After dealing with a few more cases, Yu Holea understood one thing.
The goddess city wasn’t much different than the earth. Except, the residents of the goddess city are too innocent.
Unlike humans who still try to escape when they are caught lying, these creatures don’t quibble. They accept their mistake sincerely.
Soon it was lunchtime.
Yu Holea ate her lunch, and took a break, before continuing to deal with goddess city’s matters.
Seeing Yu Holea yawn, Lira suggested,
"My lady would like to switch to earth’s matter."
Stars appeared in Yu Holea’s eyes.
Even though she didn’t want to act immaturely, the matters of goddess city are truly...boring.
As long as she has the rule book, the matters of goddess city weren’t that hard to deal with.
