Chapter 479: Why Inherit?
Chapter 479: Chapter 479: Why Inherit?
"Therefore, while all parties bear some responsibility, the initial and most significant fault lies with the group who chose to sacrifice their friend. They initiated the cycle of betrayal and violence."
The voice responded, its tone contemplative.
"Your answer reflects a deep understanding of the complexities of human nature and morality, Yu Holea.
It is never easy to navigate such murky waters, but you have shown wisdom and discernment. You have passed the second test."
Yu Holea felt a sense of relief.
"Now, for the final trial," the voice continued. "Your pain endurance will checked."
Without giving a warning to Yu Holea, the trial began.
At first, Yu Holea was confused.
But suddenly she felt pain shoot through her body.
Yu Holea gritted her teeth and endured the pain.
"If you can’t handle the pain, you only have to say the word exit, and the test will end." the voice said.
Yu Holea’s body trembled as waves of pain surged through her, testing her endurance to its limits. She clenched her fists, trying to steady herself against the agony.
Every nerve screamed in protest, but she refused to give in.
She can’t!
She gritted her teeth harder, pushing herself to endure just a moment longer.
Sweat beaded on her brow as she fought against the overwhelming sensation coursing through her.
"Do you want to give up? It is just a small test anyway." The voice tempted Yu Holea.
"I... I won’t... give up," she managed to gasp out between clenched teeth, her voice strained but resolute.
The voice didn’t say anything to Yu Holea.
When Yu Holea felt that she couldn’t endure anymore, she suddenly remembered Qiao Jun.
Qiao Jun’s pale face flashed in her mind and Yu Holea bit her lips.
No, she can’t give up!
Especially when it concerns Qiao Jun’s revenge!
Before entering the goddess city, Yu Holea swore in her heart. Even if she has to die, she will still take revenge!
Her boyfriend was harmed, how could she let those idiots go?
Don’t they love to provoke her? Don’t they love to harm Qiao Jun? Then she would teach them such a lesson that they wouldn’t be able to cry nor laugh.
Yu Holea couldn’t stop herself from groaning when the pain kept on increasing.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly as she fought against the pain, each moment a battle won against the urge to surrender.
When Yu Holea felt she couldn’t hold on, she kneeled down, yet the word ’exit’ didn’t leave her mouth.
The pain continued to intensify and for a moment Yu Holea felt as if she was in hell, getting drowned in boiled oil!
"Ahhhhh." Yu Holea slowly felt her vision turning blurry.
Just as she was about to faint, the voice reminded her,
"If you faint, it will be counted as you failing."
Yu Holea’s eyes widened with the reminder.
Failing now would mean all her efforts, all her suffering, would be in vain.
She had come too far, endured too much, to let it all slip away at the final hurdle.
Her vision swam, and the pain was almost unbearable, but she forced herself to focus.
She had to think about something, anything, to distract her from the agony coursing through her body.
Qiao Jun’s face floated into her mind again.
The memory of his smile, his laughter, the way he always supported her.
She could almost hear his voice, encouraging her, telling her to stay strong.
"Jun...," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own labored breathing.
The pain continued to surge, each wave more intense than the last.
Yu Holea’s body shook with the effort of keeping herself upright.
Her hands clawed at the cold, hard ground beneath her, seeking some anchor in the midst of the torment.
"Think about why you’re doing this," she told herself, trying to regain control over her spiraling thoughts.
"Think about Jun. Think about the revenge you promised."
Suddenly, the intensity of the pain began to wane.
The excruciating waves ebbed, leaving her trembling and drenched in sweat but still conscious.
"Congratulations on passing the final trial! However...’ The voice suddenly stopped and Yu Holea looked up.
"There are some more things that need to be understood before you can be acknowledged by the heavens."
Yu Holea fainted the moment she heard congratulations.
The pain was too intense and she was not only tortured mentally but also physically.
For the past few months, she hardly ever rested properly. Her body was already in poor condition, now with these tortures, it was impossible not to faint.
When Yu Holea woke up she was still lying on the ground.
Surprisingly, her body didn’t hurt much.
Yu Holea sat up and the voice as if waiting for Yu Holea to wake up said,
"Are you alright?"
"Yes." Yu Holea said weakly.
"Good. So as I was saying, even though you have passed all tests, you still haven’t received the acknowledgement of the heavens.
There are certain things that you need to understand. Are you ready to listen?"
"Yes." Yu Holea nodded.
"You will now become a candidate who is acknowledged by heaven, meaning you won’t need to bow your head in front of those who have been granted authority.
However, it also means that you will have more responsibility than others, are you ready to bear them?"
"Yes." Yu Holea nodded her head.
"You can’t punish the innocent, you can’t be biased, you can’t do evil deeds, you can’t protect evil and lastly you can’t harm others without a reason. Am I clear?"
Yu Holea nodded.
"I can sense that you have come to the goddess city just for revenge..." The voice said and Yu Holea instantly felt embarrassed.
However, she wasn’t surprised.
"But you can’t stay in Goddess City just because of your revenge. Since you have become a candidate and you have also received the acknowledgment of heaven, you have to fight fairly to inherit the power of Goddess."
Yu Holea knew this, long ago.
Wasn’t this the reason why someone attacked her in the first place?
Yu Holea asked,
"Why? Why do we have to inherit her power? Isn’t she doing great on her own?"
The voice was silent for a while before praising her,
"You are the first person who has asked this question, most of the candidates are more interested in inheriting the power instead."
Yu Holea remained silent.
She looked as if she wouldn’t give up until and unless the voice answered her.
Feeling a bit awkward the voice answered,
"The reason for inheriting the Goddess’s power is not because she is weak or incapable," the voice explained.
"It’s because the nature of divine power is such that it must be continually renewed and passed on to those deemed worthy.
The Goddess herself has chosen this path to ensure that her power remains pure and uncorrupted by time."
Yu Holea felt that there was something amiss, but before she could continue to ask, the voice continued,
"Okay, now that you have been acknowledged by the heavens you can leave."
Yu Holea had an illusion that the voice wanted her to leave and not ask any more questions.
After thinking for a while Yu Holea too felt that there was no need to dwell and left.
Once outside, Yu Holea searched for the old woman, however even after looking around for a long time she didn’t find her and could only give up.
After all, she had to prepare for the surprise ’gift.’
..........
Present.
Yu Holea blinked when she heard her phone ringing.
Looking at the name displayed on her phone screen and picked up the call.
"Lea? How are you?" Qiao Li’s worried voice sounded.
Yu Holea’s eyes were empty but her tone was cheerful and she said,
"Good, how are you Li?"
"I am good. Everyone here is very happy, especially Teacher Fu. Now that you have become a candidate, it has brought immense glory to the school."
"Hm." Yu Holea only nodded.
Qiao Li asked in a cautious voice,
"Lea, when will you return?"
"I will return for holidays, but if you are talking about actual duration, it is 3 years." Yu Holea replied.
Qiao Li’s heart sank and she couldn’t help but sob,
"Lea, I miss you."
Qiao Li wasn’t clueless. Qiao Heng investigated the entire incident and with the combined help of the Special Officer Department, they were able to deduce that the culprit belonged to Goddess City.
It just happened that Yu Holea left for Goddess City. Even a fool would understand Yu Holea’s intention.
Yu Holea froze and finally, she said softly,
"Li, don’t worry I will keep in touch."
Qiao Li could only nod.
"Can...can you show Jun’s face?" Yu Holea asked expectantly.
Her heart was itching.
She was missing Qiao Jun so much that she almost wanted to scratch a wall.
"Yes!"
Then Qiao Li hurriedly upgraded the phone call to the video call adjusting the camera to show Qiao Jun resting peacefully.
