Ghost Exorciser: Is Loved By All -
Chapter 469: Goddess’s Intention
Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Goddess’s Intention
The figure that entered was none other than the Goddess herself. Her presence was overwhelming, and the air seemed to vibrate with her divine energy.
The candidates, including the phoenix-masked woman, immediately fell to their knees, their faces pale with fear and reverence.
"Rise," the Goddess commanded softly, her voice like a melodious chime.
"We have much to discuss."
The candidates hesitantly stood, their eyes cast downward, unable to meet the gaze of their divine leader. The Goddess moved gracefully to the center of the hall,
What was surprising was, how even though the goddess was in front of them, they couldn’t see her.
Her figure and her face were entirely covered.
No one could see how she looked in the first place.
Yet the candidates subconsciously felt as if the goddess was very beautiful...
"Why didn’t you all ask me what my intention was? I will tell you, the truth!" The goddess said with a chuckle.
However, her chuckle didn’t sound like a chuckle at all.
It was a sound that resonated with a mix of disappointment and sorrow, echoing through the grand hall like a haunting melody.
The candidates, including the phoenix-masked woman, felt a chill run down their spines.
The Goddess’s presence was overpowering, and despite not being able to see her face, they could feel the intensity of her gaze piercing through their very souls.
"Why did you all assume that my silence was an approval of your actions?" the Goddess continued, she sounded strangely calm.
The atmosphere turned stiff and no one dared to speak.
The Goddess wasn’t in a hurry to talk either and said,
"How are you all? How is your cultivation going on?"
Seeing goddesses changing the topic, all the candidates were surprised.
The candidates exchanged uncertain glances, not daring to question the sudden shift in the conversation.
The phoenix-masked woman, summoning her courage, responded first.
"We have been making progress, Goddess," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
"Our cultivation has been advancing steadily."
The Goddess nodded, her movements graceful and almost otherworldly.
"That is good to hear. But tell me, have your hearts and minds been advancing as well? Have you been cultivating virtues such as compassion, integrity, and unity?"
The candidates shifted uncomfortably, aware that their actions had strayed far from these ideals.
The swan-masked woman spoke up, her voice filled with regret.
"Goddess, we have not upheld these virtues as we should have. We allowed our fear and ambition to guide our actions, and for that, we are deeply sorry."
Her words sounded so true that almost all the candidates believed.
Goddess only chuckled lightly.
She knew what a person was thinking when they lowered their head in front of her.
Did the swan-masked woman truly think that she(goddess) wouldn’t understand her true thoughts?
However...
Goddess didn’t expose her and asked,
"Do you all understand the weight of your actions?"
Her voice, though soft, carried a commanding power that seemed to resonate with the very walls of the grand hall.
The candidates remained silent, their heads bowed, feeling the full gravity of their misdeeds.
The Goddess continued,
"Your cultivation of power means nothing if the cultivation of virtue does not accompany it. Strength without integrity is a danger to oneself and others.
If just by cultivation, a person could become worthy of inheriting my power then the world would have been in chaos by now."
This taunt fitted the phoenix-masked woman’s current predicament.
After all, she was the person with the highest cultivation and it just happened that her cultivation of virtue didn’t match her cultivation at all.
The lion-masked woman, who had suggested confessing earlier, stepped forward cautiously.
"Goddess, we understand the gravity of our actions. We are ready to make amends and seek redemption for our wrongdoings."
Goddess chuckled even more,
"Oh? Redemption? As far as I know, you don’t want to redeem yourself, you all are just fearful of the consequences."
The cat-masked woman tried to speak up and said,
"It’s not like that Goddess, we..."
However, before she could finish her sentence, the goddess’s mere glance was enough to shut her.
The Goddess looked at all the candidates and said,
"Currently you all are behaving like humans. A normal human."
To be honest, they are indeed humans, and the comment shouldn’t have made all the candidates’s faces turn pale, but it did.
The reason was very simple.
The day they entered the goddess city, the Goddess said to them,
"You can be anything but a normal human. A normal human commits sin, begs for forgiveness, and yet harbors evil thoughts.
In fact, a normal human begs for forgiveness in the first place because he or she is afraid. Afraid of the consequences, he or she will have to face."
"You are not here to act like normal humans," the Goddess continued, her voice carrying an unmistakable weight.
"You are here to transcend, to become something greater. You are to embody the virtues that set you apart from the rest of humanity.
You are going to be the justice. So you should be impartial."
On that day, each candidate felt enlightened.
However, it was a shame that with each passing day, the enlightenment vanished, leaving only evil thoughts, that gradually led them to where they were now.
The Goddess still remembered how delighted she was when she thought that she was finally going to have someone who could accompany her.
But...
The lion-masked woman, still braving the situation, spoke again.
"Goddess, please guide us. Show us the path to redemption, not just for the sake of avoiding punishment but for the sake of truly becoming better."
The Goddess came out of her dazed state and said,
"I wish I could."
The current candidates were filled with greed.
As the saying goes, you can never awaken a person who is pretending to be asleep. The same goes with them.
All the candidates lowered their heads and waited for the goddess to continue to scold them but the next second they heard the sound of footsteps.
When she lifted their head, they found the goddess leaving the grand mansion.
Feeling panicked, the phoenix-masked woman instantly said,
"Goddess! Why are you leaving? Won’t you punish us?"
The goddess paused for a few seconds and suddenly said,
"You wanted to know my intention, right?"
The phoenix-masked woman subconsciously nodded and all the other candidates nodded as if they were dazed.
"I wanted to show you."
"Huh?" The phoenix-masked woman was confused.
"Show you that sometimes constantly scheming against others could backfire." The Goddess said with a smile.
"Goddess?" The phoenix-masked woman had a bad feeling in her heart and she instantly became alert,
"Goddess, what are you saying? We...we truly were just pulling her legs! We didn’t mean to truly harm her! Please don’t reconsider before taking any action!"
The phoenix-masked woman thought that the goddess finally had enough and was going to throw them or remove them from their position.
The phoenix-masked woman admitted that she was scared.
Once she was removed from her current status, she would be killed instantly.
The reason was pretty simple...during this time she had made a lot of enemies.
If the goddess dethroned her, she would surely die in just 2 days!
The goddess knew this too and this was also one of the reasons why the goddess never threw her.
At most, she would punish them by asking them to go to ’that place’ and spend 2 months or she would scold them.
However today, other than saying 7 to 8 sentences, the goddess almost didn’t say anything.
Was she really going to throw them just because of that Yu girl?
The goddess’s slight shake of her head, brought the phoenix-masked woman out of her thought as she heard the goddess say,
"No need to worry. This time, I won’t scold, punish you, or dethrone any of you."
The candidates were stunned into silence. The phoenix-masked woman blinked, trying to process the Goddess’s words.
No punishment, no scolding, no dethroning? The relief was almost palpable, but the confusion remained.
The Goddess continued, her voice soft yet firm.
"Because this time the real punishment will come to your doorstep and serve the justice."
With that said, the goddess turned to leave.
The cat-masked woman as if sensing something, instantly said,
"Goddess...you are talking about that girl...who is about to become the candidate?"
"You will know." The Goddess said and left.
Once the goddess left, the entire hall turned silent and no one dared to utter a single word.
Suddenly a pigeon-masked woman said,
"I will kill that Yu girl!"
This statement stunned everyone.
"Hey, what are you saying?" The cat-masked woman frowned.
The pigeon-masked woman looked fierce and said,
"Goddess...didn’t goddess mean that the Yu girl will teach us a lesson?"
"I don’t think so. Even though that Yu girl is powerful, she still hasn’t awakened her powers yet, and how a 16-year-old can stand a chance against us?" A rabbit masked woman said.
