Chapter 1962: Resurrection
However, nobody expected that the Grand Elder's move had no effect on Connor. On the contrary, those undead creatures seemed to fear him greatly.
The Grand Elder might not have known, but these malevolent spirits were not afraid of Connor himself; they were actually afraid of the Cult Leader. Just a few days ago, Connor had devoured a fragment of the Cult Leader's soul, and these malevolent spirits could sense his presence in him. That's why they were terrified of him.
With the undead creatures fleeing in all directions, the sky gradually brightened. Connor hesitated for a moment before rushing toward the Grand Elder's location.
Upon realizing this, the Grand Elder quickly surrounded himself with the energy of Lucifer, the devil.
"Bang!"
A loud noise rang out as Connor's fist struck the Grand Elder's chest.
The Grand Elder staggered back two steps, his expression showing some discomfort but no injury.
"I wonder how many punches your devil energy can withstand!" Connor roared at the Grand Elder and continued to rain blows on his chest.
After five punches, Connor shattered the devil energy surrounding the Grand Elder's body. Without this protection, the Grand Elder's body couldn't withstand Connor's attacks, and he was hit in the heart, causing him to lose consciousness.
Seeing his body fall to the ground, Connor breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he had removed the final obstacle and now had to face the Cult Leader.
Connor walked up to Rachel and asked softly, "Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?"
"No," she replied, shaking her head.
"That's good," he said with a faint smile.
After a moment of hesitation, she spoke softly to him, "Connor, I should have listened to you and not come with you in the first place. I never thought I would bring so much trouble to you."
"Trouble?" He paused for a moment, then said, "I don't think you've caused me any trouble. If it weren't for you saving my life, I might not have made it this far. My companions have been protecting me all along, and now it's time for me to protect all of you."
She felt touched by his words and didn't say anything more.
"Let's go. We need to confront the leader of the Blood Moon Sect," he said as he took her hand and headed toward the inner sanctum.
Meanwhile, in another part of the sect, inside the Blood Moon Sect's shrine:
The Cult Leader remained unaware of what was happening outside. However, he was confident that the Grand Elder's plan would buy him the three hours he needed.
The sacrificial ritual was divided into two parts. The first part involved the Cult Leader devouring the souls of all the sacrifices to gather enough energy for his resurrection. The second part was the crucial resurrection itself.
For a soul to be reborn in another person's body, the conditions were extremely strict. The Cult Leader, having lived for nearly a thousand years in this world, had attempted resurrection many times before discovering that only a particular type of person's constitution could meet the conditions required for his revival.
And that person was Taran.
However, even if a suitable host was found, there was no guarantee of a successful resurrection; it depended on the compatibility between the leader's soul and the host.
To ensure his success, the Cult Leader had spent thirty years preparing, selecting ten individuals whose constitutions met the criteria for his revival. This meant that the sect had not only targeted Taran but nine others as well.
If one person failed, the leader would immediately move on to the next candidate until he successfully revived himself.
At this moment, these ten individuals were all imprisoned in cages, awaiting the start of the sacrificial ritual. Although they didn't know what was about to happen, fear was evident on their faces.
Among them was a middle-aged man who kept his eyes closed from beginning to end, his expression markedly different from the others. He appeared extremely calm, as though he had no fear.
This man was the person Connor sought, the master, Taran.
"Do you know why we've been brought here?" A young man spoke up, addressing Taran.
Hearing this, he slowly opened his eyes and calmly replied, "Do you want to know what's going to happen next?"
"Yes, I'm just an ordinary person. I've never harmed anyone from the Blood Moon Sect. Why have they captured me? And every day, they feed us strange things..." the young man said with a furrowed brow.
"Indeed, why have they captured me?" a young and beautiful girl chimed in.
Taran sighed softly and then said in an expressionless tone, "Since we're all going to die, I'll let you understand everything clearly. When I first arrived here, I wasn't imprisoned. On the contrary, the Cult Leader took me as his disciple and made me an Earth-Rank Ancient Martial Master. Everyone in the sect was kind to me, and I couldn't understand why the leader treated me so well. But later, I overheard a conversation between him and the Grand Elder, and that's when I realized the truth."
"What happened?" the young man asked, his voice filled with curiosity.
Taran took a deep breath and then spoke quietly, "The reason the leader treated me so well is that he wants to use my body to resurrect himself. The Cult Leader isn't a living person; he's a spirit. He needs to possess someone else's body to revive himself."
"What?!" The others were stunned, their expressions full of disbelief.
"Are you trying to trick us?" the young man asked, sounding skeptical.
