Chapter 1777: A Good Opportunity to Make Money
"You should know that Aida is not my biological daughter, right?" Shereen looked at Connor and asked.
"Of course, I know!" He nodded.
"So, whether Aida lives or dies, it doesn't concern me. I found you to ask about your relationship with Aida!" She didn't waste time and asked directly.
"What's my relationship with Aida?" He hesitated for a moment, then smiled and said, "We're just kidnapper and hostage."
"Impossible. You've protected Aida so many times; your relationship with her can't be that simple!" She shook her head firmly.
He gave a wry smile and said, "It seems like you're admitting that the assassin you sent on the plane to kill Aida was indeed your doing?"
"Yes, I hired that assassin, and I have no qualms admitting it." She nodded.
"I see..." He pretended not to know anything and nodded lightly.
"Do you really have no connection with Aida?" Shereen asked, looking at Connor.
"No, I kidnapped her for money, and I'm protecting her for the same reason. After all, if Aida dies, I won't be able to get the money from Albert!" Connor said naturally.
She stared at him for a moment, seemingly starting to believe his explanation. She couldn't fathom that he would cooperate with Aida.
"Alright, since you say you want to make money, I'll give you a good opportunity to do so now," she said softly to him.
"A chance to make money?" He furrowed his brow upon hearing this. "What do you mean by that?"
"I can give you a sum of money, on the condition that you help me kill Aida," Shereen, now consumed by her obsession, stated.
"Hmm..." He chuckled upon hearing this and then said mildly, "You two have an interesting dynamic. One person pays me to release her, and the other person pays me to kill her. What exactly do you both want?"
"We don't need to concern you with what we want. Albert gave you twenty billion earlier, and now I'll give you another twenty billion. However, you won't release Aida; instead, you'll kill her. With this, you'll get forty billion. What do you think?" she asked seriously.
"Do you hate Aida that much?" He raised an eyebrow.
"This woman must die," Shereen replied calmly.
"Women's hearts are truly the most venomous," Connor coldly sneered.
He never expected that, just after negotiating the price with Albert, Shereen would find him again. What astonished him even more was that her purpose in finding him wasn't to save someone but to get him to kill.
His sole purpose in all of this was to help Aida clear her name, so he would naturally not admit to any cooperation with her.
"You want me to kill Aida, right?" he asked.
"That's right. As long as you can kill Aida, you'll not only get Albert's twenty billion but also my twenty billion. It's a deal that guarantees you a profit," Shereen believed that Connor was in York either to protect Aida or for money.
Since he denied any relationship with Aida, she assumed his motives were all about money. Thus, as long as the price she offered was reasonable, she believed he would accept her proposal.
"Aren't you worried that I'll talk about today's events?" he asked Shereen.
Shereen couldn't help but chuckle at his question. She then calmly replied, "Don't be naive. You're the biggest enemy of the Collier family right now. Even if you do talk, do you think anyone would believe you?"
"That's a good point," Connor nodded lightly, then continued, "I admit I was tempted by what you said earlier. But, I've already promised Albert to let Aida go. If I take your money now and kill Aida, my conscience might not let me sleep at night."
"You, with a conscience?" She sneered, utterly amazed.
"Why can't I have a conscience?" He retorted, his lips curling. "It's just that my conscience can be bought with money."
"How much do you want?" she asked in a hushed voice.
"Letting her go is a good deed for me, but killing someone isn't. Letting her go will cost you twenty billion, but for killing, it's a minimum of forty billion," he replied after a moment's thought.
"You..." Shereen was left speechless upon hearing Connor's demand. She hadn't expected his appetite to be so massive, asking for forty billion.
"I don't have that much money. I can offer you thirty billion at most. Will that do?" Shereen furrowed her brow.
"Thirty billion, huh?" Connor appeared somewhat hesitant upon hearing Shereen's offer. He then asked, puzzled, "Are you really this wealthy?"
"My maternal family is also a prominent family in Yanjing. I'll need to borrow the money from them, but I can't gather forty billion. I can only offer you thirty billion," Shereen explained.
"Heh, fine, thirty billion it is. After all, it's all free money to me..." Connor chuckled and continued, "First, Albert's money needs to be transferred to me, and then yours. Once I see both of these sums, I'll kill Aida right away!"
"You won't go back on your word, will you?" She seemed somewhat uneasy.
"Why would I? I've gone to great lengths to bring Aida to Yarlford. I'm doing it all for the money. Why would I back out now?" He countered with a question.
