Chapter 1537: The Car Broke Down
Chapter 1537: The Car Broke Down
Half an hour later, Jenna had signed the contract with the Second Elder. Connor, accompanied by Waverly and others, carried Yelena and left the Lester family villa, heading to the Bander family to obtain the antidote.
The car sped along the highway, and Connor continued to look down at Yelena in his arms.
His heart was filled with guilt and self-blame. He regretted deeply getting involved in her life. While he had indeed changed her fate and helped her achieve her dreams, he had also brought significant danger into her life.
It seemed that everyone around him was influenced by him, but at the same time, they were exposed to great risks.
Sitting beside Connor, Waverly couldn't help but examine Yelena closely. This was her first time seeing Yelena, and she had always been curious about the woman who had captured Connor's heart to the point of disregarding his own safety. However, upon seeing Yelena, she couldn't help but feel a hint of disappointment. Not because Yelena wasn't beautiful, but perhaps she didn't appear as exceptional as she had expected.
"Connor, I've been waiting for you!"
Just then, a voice echoed in the minds of everyone present.
Upon hearing the voice, he looked up abruptly, glancing at the road ahead, only to find it empty.
Both the Second Elder and Waverly seemed to have heard the voice as well, their expressions tensed.
"Second Elder, did you also hear that voice just now?" Connor asked the Second Elder in a low voice.
"Sect Leader McDonald, it's not good. It's likely Faris coming!" The Second Elder realized what was happening and hurriedly shouted, instructing the driver, "Turn the car around quickly!"
Although the driver didn't fully understand the situation, he didn't dare to defy the Second Elder's command. He quickly turned the steering wheel to head back.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
However, just at that moment, all four wheels of the car suddenly burst, causing the vehicle to come to a halt in the middle of the road.
Passing cars narrowly avoided colliding with Connor's car due to their high speeds.
"We're out of time," the Second Elder exclaimed, his expression turning desperate upon realizing the car was immobilized.
"Second Elder, what should we do now?" Waverly's eyes revealed fear, and she anxiously asked the Second Elder.
Taking a deep breath, the Second Elder whispered to her, "Waverly, take Sect Leader McDonald and run. I'll try to delay them."
"Alright..." She nodded quickly, then opened the car door and turned to Connor, urging, "Sect Leader McDonald, please get out of the car!"
Connor understood that he might not stand a chance against Faris, especially with his current injuries. He had no hesitation and immediately carried Yelena out of the car.
Once out of the car, she led him towards the roadside, running for safety.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
However, just as he stepped out of the car, two powerful auras flew towards him and Waverly.
Before they could even react, both of them were sent flying.
"Cough, cough..."
Connor felt as though he had been hit by a truck. His face contorted in pain.
Yelena slipped from his arms and fell to the ground.
Struggling with all his strength, he managed to stand up. He picked up Yelena and, upon confirming that she was unharmed, his tense expression relaxed somewhat.
"Connor, I've finally found you," the voice echoed once more.
Abruptly turning around, he saw an elderly man in white hemp clothing walking towards him with unsteady steps.
Although he had never seen this man before, he recognized him as Wadi's grandfather, Faris.
Moments later, Faris reached Connor and rasped, "You should know who I am, right?"
"Mr. Faris, Wadi was not killed by Mr. Connor!" Waverly exclaimed with emotion.
Faris turned his gaze toward Waverly without speaking.
"Mr. Faris, your grandson was not killed by me. It was Palmer..." Connor gritted his teeth and explained.
"He wanted to frame me. He admitted it himself!" Connor added.
"He did? Do you have evidence?" Faris asked calmly.
"I have evidence, but I don't have it with me right now!" he quickly replied.
Connor had recorded Palmer's confession on Chieko's phone, but unfortunately, Chieko wasn't with him at the moment.
"No need. I'm not a detective. I don't have the mood to investigate whether what you say is true or false. Palmer told me that you killed Wadi, and now you're telling me that he killed Wadi. So today, I'll just kill the two of you to avenge my grandson..."
Faris's voice was low as he responded.
Upon hearing his words, a look of despair filled Connor's face. He hadn't anticipated that Faris would be so unreasonable.
At this moment, Connor couldn't fathom Faris's emotions. Wadi represented Fris's greatest hope in life. Faris was well aware that he might not make significant progress anymore, and he might never be able to break through to the level of a Heaven-rank grandmaster. Therefore, he had placed all his hopes on Wadi.
Wadi's innate martial talent was astonishing, having already reached the Black-rank at a young age. If he continued to practice diligently, he might even become a Heaven-rank grandmaster.
It was important to note that whether on the mainland or in Honduria, there had never been a Heaven-rank grandmaster before. The last time a Heaven-rank martial artist emerged was two hundred years ago.
Anyone who managed to become a Heaven-rank grandmaster would truly be considered the top martial artist in all of Oprana.
Initially, Jorge had been the most likely candidate to become a Heaven-rank grandmaster. However, decades had passed since he had reached the Earth Stage, and there were still no signs of him making a breakthrough. Similarly, the leaders of the other three major sects were all Earth Stage Grandmasters. It seemed like their chances for further advancement had been exhausted.
Many believed that Faris's determination was to surpass Jorge. However, his true goal was to become the number one martial artist in Oprana.
Since he might have lost hope for himself, he had placed all his aspirations onto his grandson.
But he never expected that his grandson's debut battle would result in defeat and an inexplicable death.
This shattered all the hopes and dreams Faris had vested in Wadi. It was this utter despair that compelled Faris, regardless of his status as a Grandmaster, to prepare for a bloodbath.
