Chapter 1443: How Would I Not Know How To Play The Piano?

Priscilla turned to Connor and smiled as she explained, "Connor, here's what happened. Several universities in Porthampton are planning a joint campus celebration next week. Maya is preparing to perform a duet on violin and piano. She hasn't found a suitable partner for the performance yet, so I brought you here. I know your piano skills are excellent, and that's why I brought you..."

Connor looked at Priscilla with an expression of utter disbelief.

He couldn't fathom that Priscilla had gone through all this trouble just to ask for his help with Maya's performance.

"You want me to collaborate with her?" Connor asked incredulously.

"What's the problem? Is there an issue?" Priscilla playfully countered.

"Of course, there's a problem. I absolutely won't help her with this. You should find someone else!" he responded, still harboring resentment from the previous night's events. He had no intention of helping.

After saying this, he turned to leave.

However, this action left Chris, who was not far away, stunned. He had assumed that Connor was his competition, but he hadn't expected him to voluntarily back out. This sudden change caught Chris off guard.

Upon hearing his refusal, Maya's expression turned angry. After all, Chris was still present, and it was clear that his direct rejection hurt her feelings. She was not pleased with this situation.

"Connor, what do you mean by that? Why does it sound like I desperately want to collaborate with you?" Her eyes widened in anger as she yelled at him.

"But if you don't want to collaborate with me, why did you call me here?" he calmly questioned.

"Get this straight, Priscilla brought you here, not me. If I had known it was you, I would never have agreed. Collaborating with you would be embarrassing!" she retorted.

"In that case, it's better for me to leave. I have some things to attend to," he said, turning to walk away.

"Connor, don't go. Maya was just joking with you earlier," Priscilla quickly reached out to stop Connor.

"Whether she was joking or not, I really don't want to collaborate with her. It would affect my performance," Connor calmly stated.

"You..." Maya stared at Connor, her expression filled with anger. She couldn't believe how angry she felt. After all, there had been people who had cried and begged to collaborate with her before. She had rejected them because she didn't want to work with them. But now the situation had completely turned around – Connor was voluntarily refusing her, and she had never expected that.

"Who do you think you are? If there's nothing else, I'll leave!" he responded with a blank expression before turning to leave.

"This is so frustrating!" Maya stood in place, her delicate body trembling in anger.

Chris felt it was time for him to step in. He spoke up expressionlessly, "It's your choice whether you want to collaborate with Miss Maya or not, but were your words just now a bit too much?"

Upon hearing Chris's words, Connor paused for a moment, then glanced at him but chose not to respond. Instead, he turned to Maya with a grin and asked, "Is this kid your boyfriend?"

Chris's eyes also showed a hint of surprise. He hadn't expected Connor to completely ignore him. Throughout his life, no matter where he went, he was always someone highly valued. Whether it was because of his father's connections or his uncle's influence, he was accustomed to being treated like a star. But being ignored by Connor was something he hadn't experienced before, and it left him feeling quite uncomfortable.

"Kid, I was talking to you just now. Didn't you hear me?" Chris took a step forward, his expression still devoid of emotion, and yelled at Connor.

"Chris, this has nothing to do with you. You should mind your own business!" Maya knew that Chris didn't know about Connor's identity. She could afford to offend Connor, but if Chris did, things could get complicated.

"Miss Maya, this person is really rude..." Chris couldn't understand why Maya was defending Connor, but he also chose not to provoke the situation further.

"I think he's just showing off. I guess he can't play!" Maya pouted.

Her thoughts were focused on how she would mock Connor if he played poorly.

"What should I play then?" Connor walked over to the piano, grinning as he asked her.

"Melody of the Night," Maya replied with a dismissive tone.

"What's 'Melody of the Night'? I've never heard of it," Connor furrowed his brows.

She was left speechless. She couldn't believe he hadn't heard of the Melody of the Night.

"If you don't know the piece, you can play it based on the sheet music," Priscilla softly reminded him.

"I don't know how to read sheet music either," he replied helplessly.

Maya's expression became even more incredulous. She didn't know what to say – Connor couldn't even read sheet music!

"If you don't know how to play the piece, then you can try playing it based on the sheet music!"
