Chapter 43: Vampire Lord Of Flies

Upon sensing Ming’s gaze from afar, while the other members also turned to him at the entrance, Marcus composed himself and went to join the group.

"It seems I need to be here for the meeting to start, good grief, it is already late, just when I thought I would finally enjoy some luxurious life, just a little"

"Since every member is here, I would like to start the briefing"

Ming surveyed every member, and lastly, again, her gaze fell on Marcus, immediately she shifted the gaze from him.

’What is her deal?’

Marcus didn’t seem to care about her demeanor, although he was a little curious, was it because he knew about the probability that there was an ant queen? He didn’t even know the area boss, but everyone else believed it would also be a mutant fire ant.

"The area boss chamber is in the conference room which is on the thirteenth floor of that building"

Ming pointed to the building outside while the building was also displayed on the projector in the ballroom.

The projector displayed the video of the area boss, in its slumber, it revealed a massive, mutant mosquito, its wings folded delicately against its back like a pair of elaborate, translucent fans. The mosquito’s body was the size of an adult human, and its sleep mimicked human posture; it lay on its side with its back gently pressed against the ground, its arms folded neatly across its chest, and its rear legs crossed as if curled in rest. The insect’s massive wings, though unlike anything human, were folded down with such precision that they seemed almost like human arms in their repose. The mutant mosquito’s sharp, elongated proboscis hung just above the ground, resting like a fine weapon in its dormant state.

"Isn’t that a mosquito?"

"Are you sure?"

"It even lays in a steezy posture, that bastard monster"

"Seeing it in such human-like posture, it looks way scarier than any other area boss I have seen"

"Don’t tell me it has gained human-like intelligence"

Murmurings broke out among the team since it wasn’t what they were expecting.

"Yes, it is a female mosquito"

Ming gestured to them and the noise reduced.

"I thought the area boss would be a mutant fire ant, like their king or queen"

"Well, given the nature of beast zones and Area Bosses, the strongest establishes a colony and becomes the area boss, perhaps the queen and king had been killed by this mutant mosquito when they retaliated to reinstate her position as an area boss in this beast colony"

Cai Fiora stepped forward and went to stand beside Ming, stating her opinion, Ming gave her a glance, with her long legs, she was quite taller than Ming, however, the latter was way prettier.

’hmm, it looks like I’m a judge in a fashion show’

Marcus smirked.

The bullies also seemed unconcerned about the situation and went to one of the decorated tables to feast on any drink they saw.

"This mutant female mosquito species, also called the Vampire Lord of flies, was first spotted at a coast in Korea and after that, it has reproduced and its kind has dominated many locations all around Asia. This is one of its later generations that have become an area boss"

"And look at that posture, it seemed this one has also learned some human ways, it is even yawning?"

One guy squeaked out fearfully, prompting Ming to turn off the projector.

"We are going to fight this intelligent monster tomorrow?"

Murmur broke out once again among the timid members of the group.

Marcus was curious, where did the rogue ant come from? Did that mean the mutant fire ant queen was in captivity by the mutant mosquito?

Considering its intelligence, that shouldn’t be ruled out, perhaps the mutant mosquito kept the mutant fire ant queen alive so that it could reproduce soldiers for it.

’An organized beast colony huh?’

In response to the murmurings, Ming replied: "Actually, we are fighting it tonight"

At once, the whole place became silent, out of shock, the team was unable to mutter a word.

"The reason I summoned all of you here is that I received a notification about the area boss’ activeness"

Irrespective of the silence, Ming continued.

Marcus realized that the second B rank Awakened, the guy he suspected to have invisibility power wasn’t there, or was he using his power again, nope he had no reason to, he was likely the one who went to do the reconnaissance, and notified Ming about the Area Boss activeness.

"Hey, you are kidding us, right? Didn’t you just show us its live feed"

"That wasn’t a live feed"

With this response, Ming was met with the glares of the team members. At this time of the night, did they expect her to lead them into a fight against an intelligent area boss?

Come to think of it, the lights of the building were flickering while in that of the supposed live feed, it was stable.

"We need to move now! There is no time to complain"

RUMBLE!!! RUMBLE!!

"For real? What is happening, this place is shaking, is there an earthquake?"

"No, it is the mutant mosquito, run for your life, evacuate this building!"

Ming alerted and the team sprang into action.

Some smashed through the windows, while others sprinted toward the emergency exits in a desperate attempt to escape the looming threat.

Marcus manifested his exoskeleton and equipped his stinger blade dagger

"With my current strength, coupled with my agility, I should be able to jump this height"

Marcus knew he had no time, and as time passed by, he knew his courage would diminish so he opted to jump the height which was about 25 meters above ground through one of the smashed windows.

After jumping down, the team regrouped and formed a battle formation.

"Where is it? Leader, are you sure it was what caused the building to shake earlier?"

One of the trembling members asked with a cowering voice.

"I can only assume that there isn’t any case of earthquake here, and it is the remaining enemy we are facing"

"Damn it! How strong is it, it is just a high-tier S-grade area boss"

"Young Zhao, will you be okay?"

The bully leader turned to Marcus and asked, apparently, his voice was filled with concern.

’So I’m officially part of the raid team, I will make sure to give my best’

Marcus thought.

"Boss, I thought you said he is man enough"

Hong Yu, the one intoxicated earlier replied.

"Idiot, this isn’t a matter of drink or Yu! Don’t tell me you are still drunk"

Even the voice of the bully leader shook slightly, giving a hint of unease as he glared at Hong Yu.
