Chapter 159: Shadow Crow
Chapter 159: Shadow Crow
The worst-case scenario is that they will never be able to hunt it. This has happened to everyone who has tried to hunt this crow, so the probability is very high.
That’s why Rich’s complaints made sense.
But Elliot wasn’t going to give up.
He continued on his way forward, his eyes more focused than ever, trying to perceive every slightest movement in his surroundings.
It was difficult for him at first, but eventually, he devised a way to defend himself.
"Be prepared." Elliot said, and as soon as his words were finished, several extremely fast presences launched themselves at them from different places.
Elliot quickly retracted his summons, and without thinking, he summoned them again. But this time from above.
Some summons fell on some beasts thanks to this, while the mage immediately fired his fire magic.
This illuminated every corner, and Elliot’s perception enabled him to perceive his opponents.
He then attacked to his right extremely fast. His attack decapitated two beasts, finally breaking the chain of attacks.
"Now!" he shouted, and all his companions moved quickly in different directions.
Their attacks, using swords, daggers, and hammers, hit several targets, and the force of the impact shattered them.
They were far more powerful than any of the beasts present. The problem was that they were too much trouble in attacking and fleeing.
Now that they were finally able to kill them, they began to feel really good.
It was the first group they could kill.
After that, they managed to kill two more groups, until the bastards stopped attacking like they were doing.
Suddenly, many crows started to gather to attack them from distances.
They removed trees and made green leaves fall, then used the wind to transform them into powerful blades and send them at them.
This type of attack was unexpected initially because they combined it with powerful pecking attacks coming from many directions.
They were hurt several times in the face of these attacks, but at one point, they found humor in it and were able to kill several more groups.
"Shit. The fact that so many die and I don’t even feel tickled by the energy is stressful." Chris complained.
Rich lifted his chest proudly. He had warned him many hours ago. Now there was no turning back.
They had to keep taking potions to recover from wounds and killing crows until the boss deigned to show up.
And while that was happening, they had to stay in front.
8 hours passed.
Rich and Chris had already been stressing out for a while, but the other three turned a deaf ear to their words. They kept walking without stopping.
Elliot’s summons was walking a little away from the group, to be prepared for anything.
Just at those moments, Elliot frowned and pulled out a knife from his inventory. He then threw it with ferocity towards the place where one of the summonings was.
It hit a tree on the other side, and his summoning... died.
He hadn’t killed it.
"It appeared?" Elliot said as he realized that the one who had killed his summoning was a really fast beast that couldn’t even see the trail.
He abruptly flipped backwards, and another of his summons died.
’The rat and the berserker. Got rid of the weaker ones.’ He thought. He frowned.
If the pattern was to attack the weaker ones, then the next one....
He turned around and jumped fiercely in the direction where his Infiltrator was. Before he was killed, he pulled him inside and attacked with his sword there.
*SWOSH*
When the sword attribute that throws lightning bolts in a straight line was activated, a powerful lightning attack shot out in front of him.
The speed was such that it managed to hit something.
Just then, Jenna came up from behind and struck with her sword as well, seeking to paralyze it.
But it failed to hit anything.
A small cloud of smoke dispersed before her power at that moment.
"Shit. Watch out!" shouted Elliot, but it was too late.
Rich found himself attacked in the shoulder, and something sharp managed to poke a hole in him that touched bone.
"AGHH!"
Andrew quickly jumped into the air and summoned his hammer. He struck at the place where the beast should be, but failed to hit it. A strange cloud of smoke was too well camouflaged in such a dark place as this.
Internally, Elliot ordered the wizard to light a fire, and he did so. But then, a black crow appeared behind the wizard with a glowing feather on its head and decapitated him.
At the same time, it flew to the side at great speed and disappeared again one second later.
’Holy crap. He’s got some pretty amazing firepower and superior intelligence.’ Elliot smiled oddly. This was just the kind of beast he wanted to summon.
He darted after it, but the summon appeared behind him and killed another.
He immediately attacked backward in the distance, again activating the lightning attribute. This lightning illuminated the area, although with less power than the fire. Still, it was enough to let him see where he was.
That allowed Jenna to attack from a distance, throwing her sword. The sword flew so fast that it dug into some feathers on the crow’s wing, but then the illumination was over, and the beast disappeared again.
"I see." Elliot realized. "Its ability is to disappear in darkness. Without darkness, it can do nothing." He shouted and looked at Jenna.
She quickly nodded to him and summoned her dark sword. It was of no use at the moment, as there was more darkness, but she looked up and saw the tip of the trees.
She calculated correctly and jumped into the tall trees. With a quick movement and with great dexterity, she managed to cut off the tips of four of them and made them fall in other directions.
Then, daylight about to fall fell on the area.
Just then, the crow seemed to want to attack one of the summons. But its speed slowed down.
This allowed Elliot and Rich, coming with a thirst for revenge, to approach and strike it with ferocity.
For a moment, Rich’s attack pulled it out of Elliot’s attack field and pushed it into an area of darkness.
’Shit.’ Rich panicked.
But Jenna appeared from behind the crow before it could use the darkness to its advantage and attacked it with ferocity.
Her attack slowed it down considerably. At the end, the crow saw a sinister smile form on a hideous human face...
And the next instant, seven consecutive blows struck him. A full combo that took 10 seconds to finish.
Each attack was more powerful than the last...
Elliot and the rest watched this in shock.
"God. It’s ferocious." Andrew said, somewhat excited.
"Haha..." Chris laughed somewhat uncomfortably. Fierce is an understatement, he thought.
While Rich simply chuckled. "As expected from our Miss. One of the greats of the Kingdom, no doubt." He said admiringly.
Elliot found that a bit familiar. It reminded him of the move they had made against the octopus they had found inside the Ruin of the Nurotaur.
That vertical rotating move that characterized her, only this time she didn’t rotate. She made seven vertical and horizontal attacks from the front and to the front.
’Is she perfecting it?’ he thought.
The truth was that that combo was quite powerful, and she managed to kill the crow, destroying its heart with the final lunge.
She brought it to Elliot.
The bastard was barely 1 meter, but had been incredibly troublesome to hunt.
"Sigh. We get in here during the morning, and we’ll be out by nightfall." Elliot said. He was exhausted, so he sat down on a nearby rock.
Jenna sat beside him and smiled, "Look on the bright side. We managed to hunt down a beast that no one in town had ever managed."
"You’re right about that." He looked at Rich and nodded at him.
They were going to wait for him to recover before they left. But after that, they simply chatted and laughed for a while. Rarely do awakened people who participate in tournaments get the chance to go on adventures, so they were to enjoy them.
--
Hours later, they all returned to the city.
By the time they did, it was already dark, and the news that a group had managed to hunt down the Shadow Crow of the Dark Forest began to spread from Angelic Wave to every corner.
That night, Steward had the guild’s patrons spread the word, though he did not reveal who had hunted him. There were only a few pictures of the Shadow Raven and an explanation of its abilities, though this was the last time they would see that boss.
Once out of the portal, the bosses no longer revive. Once dead, there is no going back. Another boss could be born there, but it would come to be by evolution. It would not be the same.
So the news hit hard, and many began to speculate: Who was it?
Curious voices pointed to Elliot and Jenna, as they were famous figures recently, especially after they had made such an amazing record in that dungeon. Besides, the damage to the raven was from swords, just what those two used.
When that news came out, it also came out that the Thoran Twins had accepted a temporary transfer to the Angelic Wave Guild, which turned the city upside down.
Steward is good at striking when it counts.
