Chapter 150: Spying
Chapter 150: Spying
The days passed.
Elliot had been investigating the city, the Misfits, and some things about the House of Fire from other informants and sources.
These days, he spends a lot on mobilization and buying information, but he has not been discovered.
He also met with some Misfits, with Erick’s help. They were leaders of large squads and accepted some missions commissioned by Elliot. One night, they even revealed that they were planning a rebellion if things with the courts went well.
Jenna was also doing her job, finding out what she could from the Academy and other sectors where she had certain contacts.
But the ones who had gathered the best information were Jenna’s parents.
"Although we’ve had a hard time following up on information, because it seems that a lot of things about the House of Fire have recently been blocked by a major political power, we were still able to get some things." Jake said and pulled out the documents.
There was information of all kinds, some useful, some not so useful.
They discovered that the Tournament was actually a facade, created to hide what might be going on behind the scenes. It is believed that the House of Fire and an unknown clandestine organization might have been planning a big deal at that time, so they needed a facade to avoid prying eyes.
Perhaps they were looking to sell a large quantity of drugs, whose provenance and current location were unknown, but they were believed to be in the Warehouses by the Sea.
That’s why they were setting up a Clandestine Tournament, to avoid attention. But it’s hard to keep anything from the government like that.
So Jake was able to get a lot of good things this time.
"If so, I will participate in that Tournament. I heard it’s only for those under 20, right?"
"Yes." Jake nodded. "They’re looking for talent, or so they say. And there’s a profit of about 20 million on the line, with 16 million of that going to the winner."
"I understand."
"We can continue to delve into this situation if you want, Elliot. They’ve committed a terrible crime. Maybe if we take it to the Legislative Palace and the Tower of Justice, we can bring things back to our side in a better way." Jake suggested to him.
"Is it dangerous?" Elliot asked, and Jake nodded.
"It’s risky. The Minister of Awakened is hard to remove, and he does not tend to forget things. If we go all in against them, we could end up in serious trouble against him."
Elliot frowned and ended up shaking his head.
"Let’s forget about that for now. Let’s go to the tournament. I’ll try to find out what they’re up to there." He said and stood up.
"Jenna, I want you to keep those Misfits busy on missions. They’ll be important soon."
"Good. I’ll do what I can."
With that, Elliot left and went to sign up for that tournament....
-
A day passed until the Clandestine Tournament, sponsored by the House of Fire, began.
It was a one-day tournament in a combat arena built underground.
Among the contestants, there were about 300, all awakened.
They gathered in front of the House of Fire members who would be conducting this small, fleeting tournament.
"As usual, the House of Fire Minor Tournament is here after a few months when it was thought there would be none. As promised, we have brought it back, with a great prize this time. The winner will receive $16 million and be invited to join our House of Fire, with a very nice contract."
Louis recognized the man presenting the tournament—one of the three leaders of the House of Fire.
Jake showed him to him.
He was someone important, and all high-ranking people in the House of Fire were around him.
Near him were also those people he had seen before, the ones who threatened him in Loen and gave him the news that the corpses of his relatives were being transported to Agora.
Maybe they thought Elliot wouldn’t come here, that he wouldn’t make a fuss.
But they underestimated him.
Even though they were dead, those were the remains of his relatives.
They are very important to him!
He would do anything to get them back.
But they weren’t here to compete, and Elliot was wearing some skin mask that allowed him to camouflage himself well among the people present.
The tournament was going to start in one hour. The first phase consisted of a pitched battle of 300 participants, with the goal of leaving at least half of them as participants. From then on, they would play 1 vs. 1 until only one was left.
They didn’t have much organization other than that.
But they were given an hour to prepare.
During that hour...
Elliot prepared very well.
First, he used some of Jake’s and the Misfits’ information to kill a silent person who always moved behind the members of the House of Fire. There were several who did this, but he killed one of them.
This person was quite small, so after killing him, Elliot dressed him in the small summoning, the Infiltrator type, with the Infiltrator’s clothes and put some gloves on him. In addition, a camera.
After that, he managed to escape quickly and let the summoning go after those people.
In the meantime, he looked at him from inside his body.
The leader of the House of Fire was present inside the VIP room, the only one in this place with his men. But none of them noticed that among those people, there was an invocation of Elliot.
But for a whole hour, they didn’t speak a word.
The tournament started in the arena, and Elliot got a side for himself on the Combat Arena inside a subway coliseum, imposing himself as one of the strongest. It was child’s play.
This tournament was to look for talented young people with no resources. They were not that strong, so it was easy for him to make it without revealing anything but his melee prowess.
But nothing happened inside the VIP room-
Elliot even started to think that those guys were dumb. But in fact, not even a word came out of those guys’ mouths, revealing that the situation was serious, so he held out as long as he could.
Soon, the first phase was over.
Nothing was happening yet.
After letting them rest for about 10 minutes, the referees in charge started to divide the fights and make them happen one after the other.
Because of this, it was difficult for Elliot to see through his summoning.
And it was just at those moments...
That people dressed in strange clothes and a dark or gray cloak came in.
’Cloak with a logo?’ Elliot traveled back in time as Jeff mentioned something about them forcing him to do it.
He named those dark or gray caps with a big logo on them.
’Where have I seen that logo before?’ He tried to reminisce because he felt he had seen it at some point.
But he couldn’t remember it.
Still, he knew something strange was happening just because of those clothes.
’Maybe they are the members of that organization mentioned.’ He thought, so he tried to listen carefully.
For a moment, he forgot he was on the arena.
Fighting against someone.
That someone, seeing that he wasn’t moving, quickly stepped forward to punch him in the stomach, looking to take him out.
But just as they started talking on the other side, Elliot felt danger approaching his body, so he instinctively moved.
As he came back to his senses, he remembered.
’Shit. That’s right. I’m still fighting.’ He couldn’t control his strength very well because of this, and the small contestant in front of him took a punch to the jaw.
This immediately sent him out of the bout, driving him into unconsciousness immediately.
Even the referee was surprised by this. He didn’t expect superiority at that level here.
But when he announced the winner in this bout, the winning contestant, Elliot, paid no attention to it.
’Tsk, these little guys, when they’re good, are so arrogant. How annoying they are.’ The ref complained, planning to make it more complicated for this kid from now on.
For his part, Elliot sat back down to rest for a few minutes. He didn’t need it, though. He had simply been interrupted at the best time he had been waiting for over 1 hour, so he needed to catch up.
He went back to looking through his summoning.
They happened to be talking about him.
"It seems Agora is an endless source of talent. That boy has potential. He provoked his opponent to attack him to end the fight in one hit."
"Haha, it’s as you say. I’ve been watching him since the last round, and I can see that he’s quite good."
"This tournament has given them good joy, so I hope it will be the same this time."
"Thank you, sir. It surely will be." The leader of the House of Fire glanced sideways at the man sitting to the side.
"Moving on to the main topic..."
"Our side is ready. It will be seen as a normal exchange between the two companies."
"We have over 500 people alive, most of them young. Also, over 200 dead bodies. It’s a massive exchange."
"Don’t worry, we brought enough boxes. But I’m worried about something."
"What is it? The Misfits?"
"They’ve been making a lot of fuss lately." Said the black-clad man, glancing sideways at the Fire House Leader.
"Haha, yes, they’ve been very upset. But don’t worry. We have reliable people this time in every corner of the city. Nothing will happen." He assured.
"Sigh. I hope so. In Loen, we already have an open problem; we don’t want any more trouble."
