Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Mobile Phone
Qiao Yi couldn’t figure out who that woman was, but Lu Yanchuan could find out, and after communicating with the police, Lu Yanchuan obtained Jenfors’ phone from the police.
The last call on the phone corresponded perfectly with the time Qiao Yi mentioned, and the call display showed that the owner of the phone number was in Guang City.
"Guang City? I just happened to get an assignment at the company today to go on a business trip to Guang City. Where is this person’s address? I’ll go check it out directly!"
These past few days, Qiao Yi was driven almost crazy by this woman whose identity remained unknown. If she didn’t find the person soon, Qiao Yi was certain to develop a sickness from the stress.
"I’ll come with you."
"I’m going on a business trip, and you’ve been resting for so long; there must be a lot of things piling up at the company. How could I let you accompany me? Besides, I’m just going to take a look; nothing will happen!"
Qiao Yi knew of Lu Yanchuan’s capabilities and knew that since he had confirmed the woman was in Guang City, he most certainly could find her exact address.
It took two days of persistence from Qiao Yi before she finally got the specific address from Lu Yanchuan.
The address was very detailed, even down to the house number.
Following the address, Qiao Yi found the residential community indicated, and after circling around within the community for quite some time, she finally found the correct location.
It’s often said that one’s courage dwindles nearer to home. Yet Qiao Yi was somewhat worried about who this not-quite-friend-not-quite-foe individual she was about to confront might be—her biggest fear was that this person might turn out to be someone she knew well.
Standing in front of the apartment door, Qiao Yi’s hand wavered, lifting and then dropping repeatedly. After much indecision, she finally made up her mind and placed her hand against the door.
But the door wasn’t locked; in fact, it wasn’t even properly closed, and with just a gentle push from Qiao Yi, the door slowly opened.
Had it not been broad daylight, Qiao Yi might have been startled enough to jump.
Even in daylight, the scene before her was truly bone-chilling.
The door revealed a room where everything was cloaked in snow-white covers, and the furniture was draped with white cloth. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the heavy curtains, illuminating dust dancing in the beams of light.
In such an environment, one wouldn’t even need to set up a scene to shoot a ghost film.
Qiao Yi quietly took out her phone, turned on the video recording, and then stepped into the room.
Although the room resembled a haunted house, judging by the shapes visible beneath the white cloth, it seemed to have once been a cozy little home.
The apartment was simply structured—two bedrooms and a living room, spanning about sixty-some square meters. Qiao Yi walked around but found nothing amiss.
No, it might be more accurate to say that the whole apartment felt amiss; but the longer Qiao Yi stayed, the oddness started to feel normal.
Suddenly, the silent room was pierced by a ringing cellphone.
Qiao Yi’s hair stood on end, her hands tightly gripping the phone as she moved step by step toward the source of the ringing.
Lifting the white cloth on the table, she found a phone lying beneath, the source of the recent ringing.
Qiao Yi snatched up the phone, turned off its alarm, but inadvertently she must have touched something because the phone’s screen suddenly switched to a surveillance feed.
The room layout in the feed was more familiar to her than anything—the surveillance outside the Qiao Family home!
A roar echoed in Qiao Yi’s head, and cold sweat streamed down from her temples to her chin.
Without a second thought, she clutched the phone and bolted out, quickly leaving the room behind.
Qiao Yi ran as if her life depended on it, rushing out of the building and into the sunlight, the chill in her heart gradually subsiding slightly.
The Qiao Family was under surveillance, and who knew how long they had been watched!
Discovering the strange phone in the strange room today, Qiao Yi knew that it was the person behind the scenes trying to intimidate her!
But what was his purpose, what exactly did he want!
The invisible fear enveloped Qiao Yi; she wasn’t afraid of confrontation or engaging in scheming battles of wits, but this snake-in-the-grass type of character forced her to be afraid, forced her to be on guard.
Because such people have no bottom line, no principles—you never know when they’ll suddenly strike, plunging a knife into your softest spot.
Still in shock, Qiao Yi sat at the flower bed downstairs for a while before picking up the phone that she had brought out with her.
The phone that was deliberately left behind was cleaned up very thoroughly. Apart from an app connected to the surveillance system and the system’s built-in call and messaging functions, all other useful information had been scrubbed clean.
It was as if the sole purpose of this phone was to let Qiao Yi see that precisely edited surveillance video.
Qiao Yi’s business trip to Guang City was completed in less than two days. During those days, whether busy or not, her thoughts often wandered back to that empty house and to the phone intentionally placed before her.
Who exactly was this person? Was he doing this to threaten her or did he have some other purpose?
Qiao Yi couldn’t figure it out. Before leaving Guang City, she visited the residential community once more, but this time the house was not wide open; instead, it had already been marked with a "sold" sign.
Qiao Qiao had already found the hidden surveillance camera outside their home and, with Lu Yanchuan’s help, progressively discovered five more cameras in the surrounding area. This discovery further unsettled Qiao Yi.
The day she left Guang City, Qiao Yi arrived at the airport early, originally planning to rest for a bit in the waiting area. Unexpectedly, just after checking in her luggage and turning around, she was bumped into squarely by a little girl.
The little girl was knocked to the ground by the collision, but instead of crying, she ran and clung to Qiao Yi’s leg, refusing to let go.
"You little girl, you are..."
"You little brat, with so many people at the airport, you still dare to run around! Just wait until I catch you to give you a good lesson!"
Behind the little girl, a nefarious-looking man and woman were catching up, the woman cursing as she came, reaching out to grab the little girl.
However, her hand didn’t reach the girl before it was blocked by Qiao Yi.
"Excuse me, ma’am, please watch your language. I don’t know how my sister offended you, but if she did something wrong, I apologize to you on her behalf!"
Qiao Yi patted the little girl’s back twice, calming her trembling body, but her hands still clung tight to Qiao Yi without loosening.
That woman was blocked and instantly became livid, pointing at Qiao Yi and hurling abuse.
"What do you think you are! She’s your sister? She’s clearly my daughter! Mind your own business!"
The man behind her chimed in with support, and even swaggered a few steps closer to Qiao Yi, threatening her fiercely.
"If you know what’s good for you, scram! It’s my own daughter I’m disciplining, what’s it to you!"
