Chapter 22: Another Reason to Like Jiang Feng! Imitating Boss Jiang’s Taste—But the Difference Is Huge!
Jiang Feng didn’t mind.
The layout of his shop wasn’t some secret.
After greeting Cui Hao, Jiang Feng opened the shop and started cleaning up.
Rong Shuang and Jiang Youyou sat nearby, chatting while washing vegetables.
Neither of them was particularly skilled at it—they washed each vegetable one by one.
But they were happy to take their time, as long as they could help Jiang Feng with some of the work.
Otherwise, he’d be too exhausted.
Both of them deeply cared for him.
Jiang Youyou was in a great mood.
Compared to shopping malls, expensive toys, and fancy clothes—
Her dad was ten thousand times better!
Soon, the fillings were ready.
Cui Hao pushed the door open and walked in, his expression serious.
“Old Jiang, I just heard some news.”
“What’s got you so serious?” Jiang Feng asked.
“Fu Ji Baozi and that congee shop at the street corner—both added new fillings today, the same as yours.”
“Look at this.”
Cui Hao handed his phone to Jiang Feng.
[Fu Ji Baozi Discount Group]In the WeChat group, Fu Ji Baozi had posted several pictures.
They hadn’t offered carrot-and-egg or beef-and-scallion buns before—only beef-onion-carrot.
But today, they added two new fillings.
They also claimed to have upgraded their leek-and-egg and pork-and-scallion buns with “all-new recipes.”
Their prices matched Jiang Feng’s exactly.
And today, they had a special offer—buy five, get one free.
After Jiang Feng finished reading, Cui Hao put his phone away and continued,
“At noon, I saw a few familiar faces buying buns from your shop.”
“I’m pretty sure they were employees from Fu Ji Baozi.”
They bought Jiang Feng’s buns at noon, and by evening, they were rolling out the same fillings.
It was obvious—they saw Jiang Feng’s booming business and wanted a piece of the pie!
Jiang Youyou looked at her father, her little face anxious, but her words were meant to comfort him.
“Dad, don’t worry. We’ve already made a good amount. It’s okay if we earn a little less.”
Jiang Feng smiled and picked her up. “It’s nothing.”
“When you run a business, once someone pays for your product, what they do with it afterward isn’t your concern.”
“Life throws all kinds of troubles at you, but when you look back later, they’re just small things.”
“All we need to do is focus on doing our best.”
Jiang Youyou nodded seriously. “I understand, Dad. I won’t worry anymore.”
Rong Shuang watched Jiang Feng, a soft smile unconsciously forming on her lips.
She had found yet another reason to like him.
Being with him always felt so reassuring.
Cui Hao also looked at Jiang Feng with admiration. “I need to learn from your mindset.”
“You’re right—there’s no point stressing over things we can’t change.”
After sharing the news, Cui Hao soon left to tend to his own shop.
Jiang Feng began kneading the dough.
By 4 p.m., everything was ready.
Fourteen customers were already waiting in line outside.
Over at Fu Ji Baozi, sales had already started.
A few elderly customers, originally headed to Jiang Feng’s shop, stopped when Fu Ji Baozi’s staff called out to them.
“Auntie Liu, want to try our new buns?”
Auntie Liu paused, surprised. “Aren’t these the same as Boss Jiang’s?”
The employee replied, “These are common fillings. Just because he sells them doesn’t mean we copied him.”
Auntie Liu scoffed.
“His business is doing well, and you’re copying him but won’t admit it?”
“Why didn’t you offer these fillings before?”
The employee awkwardly fell silent.
Auntie Liu and the other elderly customers walked over to Jiang Feng’s shop and joined the line.
Zhang Quanfu, the owner of Fu Ji Baozi, stood at his door, watching the growing line at Jiang Feng’s shop with frustration.
“His buns are just a little tastier. Ours aren’t that bad.”
He had bought and tried Jiang Feng’s buns—they were indeed delicious.
After hours of experimenting, they still couldn’t replicate that perfect flavor.
But by adjusting their own recipes based on Jiang Feng’s fillings, they had improved their buns.
At the very least, they tasted better than before!
As the sun dipped lower, more people finished work, and the streets grew busier.
Yet, Fu Ji Baozi’s business remained sluggish.
Apart from a few delivery orders, nearly all the foot traffic went straight to Jiang Feng’s line.
Before 5 p.m., the queue outside Jiang Feng’s shop had already surpassed 200 people!
Zhang Quanfu grew even more envious.
Just then, a man fresh off work approached.
“One of each of these five fillings. Do I get a free one if I buy five?”
Zhang Quanfu quickly replied, “Yes, we’ll give you a free leek-and-egg bun.”
“Fine.”
The man took a bite—then frowned slightly.
The meat filling was too oily, slightly greasy.
The seasoning wasn’t great either; too much salt.
Normally, it would’ve been a decent bun—flavorful and fragrant.
But after tasting Jiang Feng’s buns, all he noticed were the flaws!
Zhang Quanfu asked, “What’s wrong? Not to your liking?”
The man shook his head. “Not exactly bad, but nowhere near as good as Boss Jiang’s.”
Zhang Quanfu’s face darkened.
The man added, “I thought yours might be close. Guess I’ll just have to queue up.”
He had only come here to avoid the long line.
But clearly, Boss Jiang’s buns were in a league of their own—impossible to find elsewhere.
Over the next hour, more than a dozen customers bought the same fillings from Fu Ji Baozi.
But their reactions were all the same:
“The difference is huge.”
“Forget it, I’ll just queue up tomorrow.”
“Boss Jiang’s buns are unbeatable—and his congee is amazing too. I’d better get in line now if I want any chance of buying some.”
That said, Fu Ji Baozi did see slightly more customers.
Many who didn’t want to wait in Jiang Feng’s long line gave Fu Ji Baozi a try.
But almost all of them just bought a few, tasted them, and left.
None came back for seconds.
Zhang Quanfu was miserable.
Meanwhile, the line outside Jiang Feng’s shop kept growing!
Fu Ji Baozi and the congee shop at the corner had zero impact on his business.
The ratio of returning customers remained astonishingly high, and with new customers joining, the queue stretched longer and longer.
Neighbors chatted while waiting in line:
“Boss Jiang’s buns are just unbeatable. You can’t get this taste anywhere else.”
“Fu Ji Baozi is clearly copying him, but the difference is night and day.”
“Yeah, Boss Jiang is on another level.”
At 6:20 p.m., Jiang Feng sold out of both congee and buns.
“Sorry, we’re sold out for today. We’ll reopen tomorrow at 7 a.m.,” he said apologetically.
The regulars understood and began dispersing, though not without some grumbling:
“Ugh, I’m craving them so bad, but I missed out again.”
“I’ll have to come earlier tomorrow—maybe get my mom to queue for me.”
“Boss Jiang’s food is incredible, but he never makes enough. What a shame.”
Zhang Quanfu’s eyes lit up as he watched the crowd scatter.
Jiang Feng was sold out!
This was his chance!
“Buy five, get one free! Upgraded recipes—come try them!”
Two employees stood at the entrance, shouting loudly.
