Chapter 19 - Don't Speak Badly About Dad
Chapter 19: “Don’t Speak Badly About Dad!” – Jiang Feng Wants Remarriage? Repeat Customers Soar, Over 100 People in Line!
“Two portions of monkfish liver sushi, one sashimi platter, and one A5 Wagyu ribeye steak,” Xu Na ordered.
“Understood. Please wait a moment,” the waiter replied, serving a glass of water and orange juice.
Jiang Youyou whispered, “Did you finish ordering?”
“Yes, why?”
“Dad makes a lot of money now. I’m not lying.”
Xu Na raised an eyebrow. “Did your dad tell you to say that?”
“Does he want to remarry?”
“Does he think I’ll believe he’s rich and take him back?”
Youyou shook her head vigorously. “I’m telling the truth.”
Xu Na scoffed. “Then tell me, what does he sell?”
“Buns and porridge.”
Xu Na frowned. “What kinds of buns?”
“Beef and scallion, pork and scallion, fennel and pork, carrot and egg, chive and egg, and eight-treasure porridge,” Youyou answered in her sweet, childish voice.
Xu Na felt embarrassed. In this upscale restaurant, talking about her ex-husband running a bun shop sounded downright shabby.
How much could he possibly earn?
But something about Youyou’s expression gave her pause—the girl didn’t seem to be lying.
“How much do the buns cost?”
“Beef ones are 4 yuan, pork 3 yuan, vegetarian 2 yuan, and porridge 6 yuan.”
Xu Na’s disdain deepened. “That’s pocket change!”
“Yesterday, he made over 6,000 yuan! And even more the day before because there wasn’t porridge yet.”
“Oh, and Dad called it… net profit?”
The chefs nearby exchanged surprised glances.
6,000 yuan net profit? That was impressive. Their high-end restaurant barely cleared 10,000 yuan after costs.
A bun shop pulling those numbers?
Xu Na was stunned—but quickly skeptical. “Did he tell you this?”
“I saw it myself.”
“Impossible!” Xu Na snapped. “A new shop selling cheap buns can’t make that much.”
“Then let’s go see,” Youyou said, checking her watch. “Dad’s customers should be arriving soon.”
Xu Na frowned. “What about the food?”
“I don’t like sashimi or monkfish liver.”
It hit Xu Na then—she hadn’t even asked what Youyou disliked. She didn’t know her daughter’s preferences at all.
“The sashimi and steak can be canceled, but the sushi is non-refundable,” the chef informed politely.
“Then pack it to go,” Xu Na said, her appetite gone.
After paying 188 yuan, they drove toward Minwang Street.
On the way, Xu Na sighed. “Youyou, I’m sorry for ordering without asking.”
Youyou shrugged. “It’s okay.”
What’s one more instance of neglect? All she cared about was returning to Dad and Teacher Rongshuang.
Misreading her calm, Xu Na pressed, “Won’t you consider living with me? Your dad’s lying—he can’t give you a good life. Liars can’t be trusted.”
Youyou’s small fists clenched. “Dad’s NOT lying!”
“Why do you keep saying that?!”
“Because he IS!” Xu Na’s voice rose. “There’s no way he earns that much! You’re too young to understand—his words mean nothing!”
Trembling, Youyou shrank into her seat, tears welling.
Dad never yells at me. Dad buckles my seatbelt for me.
Xu Na hadn’t even adjusted the too-tight strap.
After a tense silence, Xu Na softened. “Youyou, it’s not your fault. You’ll see the truth soon.”
“If Dad really lied… think about living with me.”
“No,” Youyou mumbled.
Xu Na exhaled sharply.
Fine. First, I’ll expose Jiang Feng’s lies.
He’s gotten worse—now he’s bragging about fake earnings!
Divorcing him was the right choice!
11 AM
At the shop, Jiang Feng and Rongshuang finished prepping fillings and porridge.
“Drink some water.” He handed her a cup.
She took a sip. “Tired?” he asked. “You didn’t have to come to the market with me.”
Rongshuang smiled. “Easier than kindergarten. And… fun.”
“Fun? Shopping for groceries?”
Everything’s fun with you, she thought.
A customer poked his head in. “Boss Jiang, break’s over! My grandson’s demanding your beef buns for lunch—hurry up!”
“Yeah, we’re starving out here!”
A line was already forming. Rongshuang giggled as Jiang Feng got to work.
Outside, Cui Hao marveled at the crowd. “His repeat customers keep growing. It’s insane.”
His wife nodded. “When the food’s this good, what do you expect?”
“I just hope competitors don’t cause trouble. Especially Fu Ji Bun Shop.”
“We’ll watch his back. No one’s messing with him.”
Other shop owners also noticed Jiang Feng’s loyal clientele.
“Think he’s using illegal additives?” one muttered.
“Nah,” another countered. “Addictives don’t improve taste—they just hook you. His food’s genuinely delicious.”
By 11:30 AM, over 100 people queued up—a spectacle that drew stares from passersby.
Elders helped maintain order as Jiang Feng began sales.
Across the street, a Cayenne pulled over and parked.
