Chapter 1358: Chapter 1358

The two sat on the veranda talking, as Lucas Tucker slowly walked over from a distance.

Jane McCain never had a strong impression of this person because he was too silent. Among the group of assistants, if Allen Rivera didn’t ask him to speak, he could remain silent indefinitely.

"Leaving?" Allen asked him.

Lucas Tucker murmured a response and said, "My mom asked me to come over and wish you a Happy New Year."

His tone was lazy and perfunctory.

Allen didn’t mind and asked him, "Any plans after New Year?"

"A private investigation agency has been trying to recruit me, planning to check them out after the New Year."

"A private detective?" Allen slightly frowned, "This line of work is quite unstable. You have good qualifications; even if you can’t become a prosecutor, you could consider other legal positions."

Lucas Tucker formed a sardonic smile, "It is unstable, but the money comes fast. After all, I still owe your family money."

Allen said calmly, "There’s no rush to repay the money, just take care of your mom."

"Do I need you to say that? She is my mother." Lucas Tucker waved his hand casually and turned to leave.

After Lucas Tucker left, Jane asked Allen, "Isn’t he still interning?"

Allen watched the back of the man and said, "He committed the crime of provoking disturbances. Luckily, it wasn’t serious, only detained for a dozen days or so, but his prosecutor internship was revoked."

According to the regulations, people with a criminal record cannot be admitted as prosecutors.

"He works in the judiciary, how could he commit a crime knowingly? It’s unreasonable..." Jane was puzzled and thought it was a pity. Becoming a prosecutor is a one-in-a-million opportunity, no matter how much a private detective earns, it can’t match the prestige of being a prosecutor.

"Not long ago, that rapist was released from prison. Lucas Tucker has always held a grudge against that guy over the years, after all, he was the one who destroyed his family."

Allen sighed slightly and continued, "I was afraid he would act recklessly, so I took away his ID card. He sneaked into the dorm earlier, trying to search my luggage for it. When he couldn’t find the ID card, he cut up yours, maybe just out of spite, or perhaps to indirectly take revenge on me by harassing you."

Jane connected everything, and it all seemed to make sense...

"No wonder you knew who did it after asking just one question; you already suspected him."

"I confirmed it after asking. Ray Cooper’s visit to Juliet Stewart was a last-minute decision, which Lucas Tucker didn’t know about. Yet he claimed he came to the dorm looking for Ray, clearly an excuse made up after hearing Ray’s alibi. But... the excuse wasn’t well-prepared, probably because he had given up and didn’t fear me finding out."

Jane thought for a moment, then asked, "The other time you rushed to Scenton, was it also to stop Lucas Tucker?"

"Yes." Allen nodded indifferently, "The Tucker family is already gone, and if something happened to him, his mom also wouldn’t survive. I searched for him in Scenton for three days; the guy really could hold his nerve, spending three whole days neither at home nor in hotels, just hanging out in an internet cafe... When I found him, he had a knife ready for revenge."

He spoke nonchalantly, but Jane’s heart was hanging by a thread, nervously asking, "Nothing happened, right? Did you get hurt?"

Allen gave her a sidelong glance, "Something did happen. My girlfriend wanted to break up, her phone was unreachable, and I still hadn’t found Lucas Tucker, couldn’t head back immediately... Once I found him, thinking about how he delayed my lifelong affair, I inadvertently got rough with him and had to file a report afterwards."

Jane lowered her head guiltily, murmuring like a mosquito, "But you didn’t explain it clearly to me; I was waiting for your call, it was my mom who blocked you..."

Allen sighed, leaning his forehead against hers, "Luckily I managed to win you back."

Jane softly asked, "If I want to break up again in the future, will you still coax me?"

"As long as the breakup reason isn’t that you don’t love me anymore, coaxing you can be quite fun." Allen smiled.

Jane silently hugged him tightly, thinking: I will love you forever, and you must always coax me.
