Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1314
Chapter 1314: Chapter 1314
Ruby Spencer packed her luggage and dragged the suitcase into the living room, then called her assistant.
The housekeeping lady came at the scheduled time to cook meals and clean.
It seemed like the neighbors were getting ready to walk their dogs, two cheerful corgis barking happily.
Voices, the sound of the extractor fan, the clinking of porcelain bowls, barking, and chaotic footsteps... This morning seemed to truly start now.
The noise made Jane McCain feel the passage of time.
This feeling was good, very good. The sun rises as usual, life goes on, time pushes her steps forward, always moving, until she steps out of the shadows.
But if everything quiets down, she would feel a fear of being trapped in a mire.
Jane McCain came out of the room and sat by the table to have breakfast, Ruby Spencer had just finished her call and put away her phone before joining breakfast.
"Where are you going again? Didn’t you just fly back from France a few days ago?" Jane asked her.
"Milan." Ruby replied, "Pay more attention to the company matters these days; if you’re unsure, ask Shirley."
"Okay, got it." Jane responded.
"If your grandparents call, just say I’ll be back before the New Year."
"Are we going to visit them this New Year?"
"Yes, I was abroad last year and didn’t go back; it’s time to visit them this year."
The mother and daughter chatted while eating, and soon after breakfast, Ruby Spencer’s assistant arrived, loaded the suitcase into the car, and accompanied her to the airport.
Jane McCain headed to the company.
She drove a red sports car, and once she got to the company downstairs, she took a pair of sunglasses out of her bag, which covered most of her face.
Under the sunglasses, her lips were bright red, her skin smooth as silk; with high heels on and a designer handbag slung over her shoulder, she appeared as an enviable, carefree rich girl.
While waiting for the elevator, she ran into an employee from the company, who greeted her with a smile, "You look great today."
Jane McCain lightly pressed her lips together and smiled faintly, "Yes."
...
It was three days later when she saw Allen Rivera again.
She was having lunch with colleagues in a downstairs café, and Allen suddenly appeared—standing tall by the table, his gaze calm as water, silently watching her.
His presence was imposing.
The colleague was sensible, softly saying she was done eating, got up to make way, and before leaving, couldn’t resist stealing a few gossip-laden glances.
Allen sat opposite her.
Nothing had happened yet, but she already wanted to cry. Her heart was a tumultuous mix of grievances, desperately wanting to vent them all on the man before her.
"You mentioned on the phone that there was something you wanted to talk about; was it about breaking up?" Allen raised his hand, placed his phone on the table, and looked at Jane.
He had some stubble on his chin, weariness in his eyes, overall lacking the usual clean and fresh look, yet still handsome.
Jane couldn’t help but think: Three days... Three whole days, he really finished his business in Scenton before finally remembering her.
Seeing Jane remain silent, Allen continued, "I don’t really understand how young girls today handle relationship issues, but proposing a breakup unilaterally, then not replying or answering calls seems a bit irresponsible, doesn’t it?"
Jane was startled.
She quickly realized that Ruby had not only deleted Allen but probably blocked him as well.
She wanted to explain but suddenly felt it unnecessary, so she pressed her lips, ambiguously acquiescing.
Allen asked, "Janie, are you throwing a tantrum, or are you serious?"
Jane looked down at her plate, remained silent for a while, and asked him, "Why did you go to Scenton?"
Allen frowned slightly, "Because I went to Scenton, you got angry? Something happened to Lucas Tucker; I went to Scenton to find him..."
Before he could finish, Jane’s emotions suddenly spiraled out of control, "He’s not anyone to you, why did you go looking for him? Does he not have parents? No relatives?! Would he die if you didn’t go?!"
