Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1313
Chapter 1313: Chapter 1313
On the way home, Jane McCain sat in the car, looking at her phone.
——Maybe he is on the plane and hasn’t seen the message.
After returning home, she sat alone on the sofa, still staring at the phone.
——Maybe his phone hasn’t turned on yet, and he hasn’t seen the message.
She changed clothes, drank water, went to the bathroom... whatever she did, she didn’t dare let her phone out of sight.
But why?
Why hasn’t he called yet? It takes at most two hours to fly to Scenton; what exactly is he doing now?!
At two in the morning, Ruby Spencer came back with a tired appearance and saw Jane McCain on the sofa in the living room.
She paid no attention and casually said, "Stop playing with your phone all day and night; go to sleep."
Jane McCain didn’t respond.
Ruby Spencer didn’t bother her anymore and went to her room. After busying herself with changing clothes and removing makeup, she came out again and found Jane McCain still in the same position, motionless.
"Janie? Hurry up and go to sleep." Ruby Spencer frowned and walked over.
Once she was closer, she discovered her daughter’s face covered in tears, shocked, and then looked at the phone in Jane McCain’s hand, where the chat box showed the text message Jane had sent: We should break up.
What else was there for Ruby Spencer not to understand?
"I’m waiting for a phone call," Jane McCain murmured, "He might have just arrived in another city, and his phone is out of battery, so he hasn’t seen the message..."
"You can find a phone charging machine anywhere at the airport; how could it be out of battery?" Ruby Spencer snatched the phone from Jane’s hand and unequivocally deleted the contact list.
"If he really cares, no matter how far or difficult, he will come back to find you. If he doesn’t care, you shouldn’t wait!" Ruby Spencer threw the phone back to Jane, and said coldly, "Go wash your face, then sleep."
"Mom..." Jane saw Allen Rivera’s name was gone from the contact list, and her eyes reddened even more.
"I’d rather see you cry because you’ve grown old and ugly than because of some lousy man! Now go back to your room and sleep!" Ruby Spencer said.
Jane McCain bit her lip as tears poured down endlessly.
She knew she was pathetic, but what could she do? She just liked him, couldn’t let him go.
When others were heartbroken, she could easily comfort them, saying there are plenty of fish in the sea; men are everywhere. But when it happened to her, she realized it was more painful than gouging out her heart!
Jane McCain returned to her room, applied eye masks, and closed her eyes to sleep.
Tears kept flowing, mixing with the essence on the eye mask paper, soon becoming a mess.
She lay on the bed with her eyes closed, in a daze, feeling she wasn’t sleeping, but waiting. Waiting for him to sentence her to the death penalty...
...
Jane McCain woke up the next morning.
Sunlight shone through the gaps in the curtains into the room, with tiny dust particles dancing in the golden beams, around her still, giving the illusion that time had frozen.
She walked to the mirror and looked at herself.
Despite applying eye masks, her eyes were still red and swollen, which would save her the need for eye shadow, spy, and mascara today.
The phone was silent all night; even if she purposely set the volume to maximum, fearing she might sleep through any sound, still no calls came.
Instinctively finding excuses for him, it’s greed, it’s reluctance.
But to continue on would be self-deception, right...
From yesterday to today, within a whole day, no matter how busy, he should have returned the call.
Either he saw the message and tacitly agreed to the end of the relationship.
Or he thought the matters in Scenton were more important, deciding to deal with them before coming back to explain.
Whether it’s any of the above situations, Jane McCain feels there’s no need to continue...
Reason and emotion, like wild horses galloping in different directions, tearing her whole being apart, raw with pain.
Jane McCain looked into the mirror, took serious deep breaths, and slowly exhaled, adjusting repeatedly.
It still hurts.
