Chapter 1305
Chapter 1305: Chapter 1305
"Could it be another monkey?" Jane McCain questioned, "Allen Rivera said there are many of these monkeys in the nearby mountains."
"It’s definitely this one," Fiona Lake said confidently, "Look at its back."
Jane McCain was puzzled and couldn’t see clearly what was hanging on the monkey’s back; it looked like a leather hat or a piece of waste paper.
Perhaps the scrutiny from both of them startled the monkey, and it suddenly turned around, escaping along the brick wall!
"We can’t let it get away!" Fiona Lake shoved the bag she was holding into Jane McCain’s arms and chased after it immediately!
But the monkey was jumping up and down on the brick wall and rooftops, while they could only chase on the ground. How could they catch up?
Seeing someone chasing after it, the monkey fled even faster!
Jane McCain watched helplessly as Fiona Lake chased into an alley.
Holding two people’s bags, Jane couldn’t stay or chase after immediately, feeling torn. Finally, she gritted her teeth and decided to chase as well.
The alley was winding and twisting, and she was out of breath from running. Luckily, there weren’t many forks; otherwise, she would have really gotten lost.
When Jane McCain caught up with Fiona Lake, Fiona was kneeling in the snow, continuously rubbing her ankle with a painful expression on her face. Beneath her was a muddy skid mark, clearly from slipping while chasing the monkey.
"Are you okay?" Jane McCain asked, panting heavily, "Is it serious?"
Fiona Lake shook her head, "I’m fine, just twisted it."
"Did the monkey escape?" Jane McCain asked.
"Yes, but it surely ran towards where its owner is. If we search in that direction, we might find both the monkey and the person," Fiona Lake said, raising the item in her hand toward Jane McCain, "And look at this, it fell off the monkey."
Fiona Lake held a soft rubber mask, with a lifelike human face on it.
Jane McCain realized, "It was wearing this mask to sneak into people’s houses at night and scare them?"
Fiona Lake nodded, "Probably."
After speaking, she bit her lip and rubbed her ankle regretfully, "If the monkey hides in the mountains, it’ll be impossible to find it again. To convict the criminal, we can only rely on this mask. There must be fingerprints or hair on it, I need to take it to Mr. Rivera immediately."
Jane McCain helped her stand up and said, "You can’t even walk now. Let’s wait until they come back."
"No way!" Fiona Lake insisted stubbornly, "Since we found evidence, it should be handed to the prosecutor as soon as possible! It’s the rule!"
She hesitated for a moment and looked at Jane McCain, "You take it over for me."
"Me?" Jane McCain asked in surprise, "I’ve never been to the village, I don’t know the way..."
"You can flag down any tricycle taxi on the roadside, and they’ll know the way. Just ask the driver to take you to the village entrance, and once you’re in the village, you’ll see the police sent by the town," said Fiona Lake, "Mr. Rivera is with them. You can come back with them afterward."
Jane McCain looked worried, "It’s not that I don’t want to help, I’m just afraid of going to the wrong place and delaying your work."
"You won’t go wrong." Fiona Lake stuffed the mask into her hand, "Hurry up, don’t waste time. Remember not to crease the mask, or it might damage the evidence."
Jane McCain took the mask, hesitating, "What about you..."
"I’ll be fine, I’ll just walk slowly. Don’t worry about me, hurry up," Fiona Lake urged anxiously.
Jane had no choice but to carry the mask and head off.
She couldn’t figure out how important the mask really was, but seeing Fiona Lake in such a hurry made her worried about delaying their case, so she instinctively quickened her pace.
Being unfamiliar with the area was truly disadvantageous; she searched for two streets before finding several tricycle taxis resting by the roadside, waiting for passengers.
She went over to inquire about how to get to the village, just as Juliet Stewart was out shopping and happened to pass by, hearing Jane McCain’s question.
Juliet Stewart immediately said rudely, "Do you have no shame? Mr. Rivera is handling a case, why are you trying to join in the chaos?!"
