Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1300
Chapter 1300: Chapter 1300
Could it be Ray Cooper? Or Lucas Tucker?
Ray Cooper liked Juliet Stewart, and as for Lucas Tucker, she didn’t know him well, but he seemed to be a serious person.
You can never know what’s in someone’s heart. Even with the suspects narrowed down to two, she still couldn’t tell who it was.
Jane’s mind was a mess. She knew that if she told Allen Rivera that someone not only cut up her bank card and ID card but also pinched her butt, he definitely wouldn’t wait two days before solving it.
But... she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
They stayed in the dorm for a while, and Allen took several calls. It was clear he was really busy.
The hand Jane had been holding onto his arm loosened a bit, "If you have something to do, go ahead and take care of it..."
"It’s okay, I’ll stay here with you." Allen put away his phone, "The police action starts in the afternoon; there’s still time."
Jane was silent for a moment, murmuring, "I shouldn’t have come."
If she hadn’t impulsively come over, she wouldn’t have encountered this situation, nor would she have disrupted Allen’s work.
She really needed to change her impulsive nature.
"It’s not your fault this happened." Allen patted her head with a gentle smile, "And I’m glad you came."
Jane leaned against his shoulder without speaking, still feeling downcast.
At noon, the two of them went to the cafeteria for lunch, where all four assistants were present. Allen briefly explained Jane’s situation.
"...Since she can’t take the bus and I don’t feel comfortable letting her travel back alone, she’ll stay for now. We’ll head back together after we finish our work." He said lightly, "Ray Cooper and Lucas Tucker, stay at the hotel for the next couple of days."
Upon hearing this, the four of them recalled being called to the dorm for questioning in the morning, each fully understanding the implications.
Juliet Stewart, who already had issues with Jane, was immediately displeased and said, "If you don’t want to leave, just say so; who’s the act for?"
Jane kept her head down, eating her meal. Hearing this, she looked up, "What do you mean by that?"
Afraid the two would start arguing, Ray Cooper quickly gave Juliet a look: Mr. Rivera is sitting right next to us; if you want to argue, don’t do it in front of him.
But Juliet ignored him, retorting, "The stuff was in your own bag all along. How it got cut up, don’t you know? Even if someone really came into the room and wanted to stop you from going back to Clearwater, wouldn’t it be simpler to just take the wallet? Why bother cutting up the ID card and bank card?"
After saying this, she muttered under her breath, "Everyone else is almost overwhelmed by work, and here you are making trouble."
Jane was furious and was about to retort when Allen quietly put down his chopsticks.
It was a casual action, yet it made everyone at the table fall silent simultaneously.
"Your analysis is logical; taking the wallet would indeed be more convenient than finding tools and taking the time to destroy the documents." Allen said calmly, "However, if she wanted to stay, she could have just told me. There’s no need to destroy her own things; that’s what’s truly unnecessary."
Juliet bit her lip and said nothing. Her expression showed her dissatisfaction, as if she thought Allen had been enchanted by a scheming woman. She was both indignantly unfair and painfully disappointed.
Allen asked her, "Have you finished your reflection essay?"
Juliet looked embarrassed and lowered her head, "No."
Allen didn’t look at her anymore and turned his head to ask Jane, "Are you full?"
Jane nodded.
The food didn’t suit her taste, and the person across the table was adding to her troubles, leaving her unable to eat.
The two left the cafeteria and returned to the dorm. Allen said, "Don’t take Juliet’s words to heart. It’s probably because she was overly protected by her family growing up, making her too simplistic in her ability to analyze and judge problems."
Jane asked in doubt, "Do you know her family?"
