Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1294
Chapter 1294: Chapter 1294
Allen Rivera opened his eyes, listening intently.
Faintly, there seemed to be some strange sounds.
"Juliet Stewart is crying again," Jane McCain said softly, observing Allen Rivera’s expression.
Allen Rivera looked indifferent, as calm as if he were hearing wind and rain outside.
Jane McCain tentatively asked him, "Later... what do you plan to do with her?"
After asking, she suddenly felt her question was very childish, childish with a touch of triviality, as if she had a pen and paper ready to evaluate her boyfriend’s answer and then write an analysis report.
Allen Rivera said: "Follow the rules. If she passes her internship, I’ll apply for her promotion. If not, she continues her internship. If she’s not focused here, she can resign or be reassigned. The hospital has detailed standard procedures, just follow them."
"But she likes you..." Jane McCain mumbled.
Allen Rivera dismissively replied, "She hasn’t said she likes me."
"She has been quite obvious."
"I thought I’ve made myself very clear too." Allen Rivera glanced sideways at her.
Jane McCain was taken aback.
It was obvious that Allen Rivera did not like Juliet Stewart.
Understanding this point, Jane McCain curled her lips into a smile, looking at Allen Rivera with a hopeful expression, asking, "Will you act that sternly toward all women who have untoward intentions toward you?"
Allen Rivera slightly furrowed his brows, seriously replied, "I’m not being harsh to her; I’m criticizing her. As her superior, I have the responsibility and duty to correct her thoughts and improper behavior. If she insists on bringing personal emotions into work, I can only report to my superior for her reassignment."
"If you weren’t her boss? Like... a woman you randomly met on the street?" Jane McCain asked again.
Allen Rivera said, "Then we wouldn’t have any connection at all."
"Really not even a bit swayed?" Jane McCain persisted.
Allen Rivera was silent for a while, propped himself up on his elbow, and looked at Jane McCain suspiciously: "What’s up tonight? So talkative, really not sleepy?"
Jane McCain felt guilty and tucked herself deeper into the blanket.
Allen Rivera continued, "What are you insecure about? Her family background isn’t as good as yours, neither is her appearance, body shape, work attitude, or level of awareness. What are you worried about?"
Jane McCain felt embarrassed listening to him.
Not to mention how Allen Rivera judged her work attitude, but where did he discern her level of awareness?
Allen Rivera curled his index finger and lightly tapped her on the forehead, "Don’t overthink, close your eyes, sleep."
Jane McCain obediently closed her eyes.
But it felt like there were ants crawling around inside her heart, and after several moments of brewing, she couldn’t contain herself and asked, "Allen Rivera, why do you... like me?"
This was something Jane McCain had always been puzzled about.
She still remembered that day when Allen Rivera seemed like a god descending from the heavens to save her, and theatrically, he then accused her of murder and arrested her.
Truly, life and death lay in his hands.
This man saw her escape from a deranged murderer, saw her being wrongly imprisoned, saw her being manipulated by a matchmaking partner, frightened by a psychiatrist...
So coincidentally... he witnessed all her embarrassing and disgraceful moments in life.
Why would he ever like her?
Allen Rivera quietly looked at her for a while and asked, "Do you really want to know?"
Jane McCain nodded vigorously.
He lifted a strand of her hair, gently stroked it, his deep voice almost relaxing every pore: "And you, why do you like me?"
Jane McCain’s cheeks flushed, instinctively lowered her head, hiding under the covers.
Thinking: If the answer is... because he’s handsome, would it seem too superficial?
