Chapter 1271: Chapter 1271

Jane McCain said she’s made up her mind.

Allen Rivera examined her for a moment, then asked again to confirm, "A formal relationship with the intent of marriage?"

Jane’s face turned even redder, and she softly replied, "Mm."

Allen’s eyes showed a hint of a smile. He looked at her for a moment and then asked, "Dinner together tomorrow?"

"Mm, okay." Jane nodded.

She had so much to say, but in front of him, her words became scarce.

Having confirmed their relationship and agreed to have dinner together tomorrow, it seemed like it was time to say goodbye.

They looked at each other, neither of them speaking.

The silence was warm and a bit awkward.

Allen leaned in close, hesitating with caution, his movements slow.

Jane couldn’t endure it any longer. She lowered her eyes and pressed her lips together, thinking: Is he going to kiss me?

Should I close my eyes?

...How embarrassing.

All the shyness of her life seemed to be used up on Allen Rivera.

Finally, his kiss landed softly.

A light touch on her forehead, warm and brief.

"Goodnight," Allen said.

Jane’s eyes fixed on the delicate button below his collar, not daring to look directly at him. She murmured back, "Goodnight..."

...

Back home, Jane lay on her bed, tossing and turning, her mind flooded with dopamine, too excited to sleep.

She got up and put on the necklace Allen had given her, looking at it in the mirror from different angles, unable to stop the smile on her face.

It felt like winning the lottery; amidst her joy, there was a sense of surrealism.

Jane was still reveling in her happiness when she accidentally saw a pair of slipper-clad feet in the mirror’s corner, startling her.

She turned her head to find it was Ruby Spencer!

"Mom! Can’t you make any noise when you walk?!" Jane was so scared, she broke out in a cold sweat.

Ruby leaned against the doorframe, looking at her with a half-smile. "It’s not that I’m quiet, you’re just too lost in your own world. Who gave you that necklace? It made you this happy?"

"Can’t it be something I bought for myself?" Jane pouted.

Ruby laughed and said bluntly, "You make jewelry for a living, and you still need to buy from others? Are you out of your mind?"

Jane curled her lips.

"It’s fine to be happy for a while, but don’t act like a night owl. It’s bad for your skin; go to bed early." Ruby didn’t press further; she smiled casually and turned back to her room.

As a parent, she rarely interfered in Jane’s personal life, essentially letting her raise herself. Otherwise, Jane wouldn’t have dared to have a flash marriage abroad.

The upside to this freedom is that it gave her children the greatest space to grow.

The downside is that when trouble arises, parents are bound to have some degree of negligence.

After Ruby left, Jane quickly took off the necklace, went to the bathroom to rewash her face, and opened a drawer in her room. A neat row of face masks lay before her like CDs.

Various types, various effects.

Jane’s fingers lightly brushed over them and picked out the most expensive one - emergency repair, essence nourishment, to make her skin as delicate as springtime.

After the face mask, she applied body lotion. Even though it might not be necessary, for her first date, she wanted to give it her all.

The next day, naturally, she couldn’t wait.

She wanted to send him a message but hesitated, worried it might disturb his work. Besides, while they had agreed to dinner, they hadn’t set a specific time. Was dinner at five or at seven? That’s a two-hour difference.

Jane’s eyes frequently glanced at the digital clock on her desk, growing more impatient.

Her assistant brought in some documents, and Jane stopped her. "Did Mr. Rivera come by today?"

The assistant shook her head cluelessly.

Jane clutched her phone, feeling a bit frustrated.

If he likes her, he should take the initiative, right? A whole day has passed, and there’s not a word from him. At least he should let her know the time and place for dinner!

Just then, her phone suddenly rang.
