Chapter 1536: Chapter 1097: How Much Are You Prepared to Pay for the Treatment?
"We need to first consult on a treatment method, please wait for us," said Anthony.
The Great Speaker glanced at Ange and nodded, "You need to hurry, Bret can’t hold on for long."
The Great Speaker had always known that Ange was the core of these wandering gods, but didn’t expect it to be so crucial. Even the treatment required Ange’s approval before Anthony dared to proceed. It seemed whether it could be cured depended on this God of Farming, not the Lord of Light.
They moved a bit away and huddled together. Anthony asked, "Sir, what is that thing? Are you confident in curing it?"
Ange took out a bottle of the Source of Water: "This, hey, little bugs, evolve, Insect Plague."
The others didn’t understand, but Negris gasped when he comprehended: "You mean, the little bugs nurtured by the Source of Water? How small? So these little bugs gnawed them to such a state? My god, what kind of spooky bugs are these? Bret is a Mourning Skeleton, can bugs really chew through him?"
Everyone thought it was bacteria, not realizing it was an insect plague. The thought of countless little insects on Bret chewing him into a ghostly form made Negris’s entire body itch.
In this situation, it was too much the expert’s input. Giant Dragons actually hate little bugs the most; to a dragon fifty or sixty meters long, insects the size of flies are basically invisible, just like bacteria on a human body.
Humans can bathe, but a dragon can’t. Their Dragon Scum acts as a protective layer, and bathing would make it damp and prone to mold.
Some dragons who loved cleanliness would regularly take a Dragon Breath bath; they would use their Dragon Breath to spray on sand or dirt, heating it up, then stand on it or scatter the sand on themselves, using the high temperature and breath to kill insects.
If some unclean dragons had dirty bodies with various little insects nesting, lifting a scale to find a heap of cockroaches crawling out, and then lifting another scale to see maggots wriggling, it would be too disgusting.
Of course, young dragons have strong firepower, making it easy to smoke the insects to death, but older dragons, when their breath becomes intermittent, are readily bullied by insects.
Negris had an ’old’ dragon phase, but it was well-cared for by the Resting Camp, occasionally being scrubbed with Breathing Soil by skeletons, so its life was peaceful, but the revulsion hidden in its bloodline couldn’t be easily shaken off, just hearing about it made his skin crawl.
Anthony also understood: "So these insects were raised and evolved using the Source of Water?"
Ange nodded: "They can fly, they flew over."
"What? They flew over? Where? Where?" Negris was so frightened that its scales stood up, darting behind Ange and glancing around.
The others followed suit, hurriedly hiding behind Ange.
Their strange behavior alarmed the Great Speaker. Seeing their obvious evasive posture, the Great Speaker also quickly looked in their guarded direction, at the same time, a cloud of smoke rose from his body.
"Wow, how dazzling." Through the reflection mirror, it looked as if the Great Speaker was emitting a cloud of smoke spraying rainbow sparkles, if ordinary people could see this effect, it would be like a personal light show.
However, they could only see the light on the Great Speaker, unable to see those little bugs. After a few glances, Negris realized and quickly shared Ange’s vision, Anthony mimicking, leaving only the silver coin and Durken looking at each other.
Through Ange’s vision, the smoke on the Great Speaker didn’t have light effects; it was just a layer of continuously vanishing and cycling smoke, swirling from his body, colliding vortexes disappearing silently.
This ’disappearance’ that lacked light and sound effects tightened Anthony’s heart; this was the true terror of that smoke.
As for the insects, they were still invisible, but one could see a heap of numbers emerging from the pitch-black void, swarming out of Bret’s body, with part of them drifting toward the Great Speaker and another part toward Ange.
"This is truly irrational." Negris sourly retorted, although they couldn’t see the insects, the ability for Ange to perceive them made this Divine Technique truly unreasonable.
But it was also normal; explaining the logic wasn’t Divine Technique because it adhered to the rules of the gods, not the Laws of the Void.
Numbers flying toward the Great Speaker changed continuously, rapidly decreasing and disappearing. Once entering the smoke’s range, the numbers started to change.
The Great Speaker couldn’t see the insects but could sense the smoke constantly vanishing, as if something was hitting his body, this eerie change startled his soul, causing him to retreat instinctively.
As he stepped back, it distanced him from the insects; the silence made him stop, and once he halted, the insects caught up, diving into his smoke, making him retreat again.
With each retreat and pursuit, the Great Speaker felt like he was battling an invisible enemy, and this ’enemy’ could wound Bret into such a state, making him intensely anxious, prompting him to fly toward Ange’s position, ultimately hiding behind Ange.
"What is it? What did you discover? Why can’t I see it?" the Great Speaker asked anxiously.
"Insects, very tiny insects," Anthony responded.
The Great Speaker wore a look of disbelief: "Insects? Are you joking? How can there be insects invisible to the eye? Even if they exist, how could they possibly chew through Bret?"
Anthony’s face hardened: "Are you the doctor, or are we the doctors? Are you the ones treating, or are we? If you don’t trust us, why call us? We’ll leave."
Anthony made a show of leaving, but his feet remained unmoving. The Great Speaker hurriedly intervened, repeatedly saying, "I trust, I trust, I’ll listen to you, do as you see fit."
This kind of insect indeed surpassed everyone’s imagination; even the Great Speaker instinctively questioned it upon hearing it, but Anthony didn’t doubt Ange and had to convince the Great Speaker.
In such a situation, to gain the Great Speaker’s trust, explanations were useless. The most straightforward method was to give him a choice: trust or leave.
Confronted with something unprecedented, the Great Speaker wouldn’t dare let them leave, at the very least, they could see what was happening. If not for witnessing their reactions, he wouldn’t have unleashed his protective energy, fearing those things would have clung onto him.
"Oh, right, did any get on me? Did any get on me?" the Great Speaker suddenly remembered something and asked urgently.
Ange shook his head, Negris responded: "None got on, if they did, we wouldn’t let you over to avoid spreading to us."
"That’s good, that’s good. What should we do? If they’re insects, do you have a way to eliminate them?" the Great Speaker asked.
Ange nodded and pulled out an insect egg, flicking it out.
Seeing the egg, Anthony grinned: "Forgot to tell you, among us gods, there’s also an Insect God. Oh, forgot one thing, what are you willing to pay for the treatment?"
