Chapter 1508: Chapter 1069: First Raid His Lair
Negris hated being called a lizard more than anything, yet now it didn’t hesitate to curse even itself, blurting out "dead lizard." One could only imagine the shock it felt—this thick-browed, sharp-eyed Elarafate turned out to have the same cunning as Anthony, wanting to play both sides?
"Damn it, could it be you corrupted him?" Negris turned to Anthony and mocked.
"Why pin everything on me? He’s always been this bad. A clan’s king can’t be that stupid, can he? He’s not the God of Knowledge, after all," Anthony lazily retorted, then continued, "He witnessed Lord Nage’s power, and now he’s reporting ahead of time to curry favor. Whoever wins, he’ll back them. In his eyes, Lord Nage has a real chance of winning. Tsk tsk."
Negris rolled its eyes and asked, "So, what do we do now?"
Anthony replied, "Two options. First, a direct confrontation—to see if this Lord of the North Crown is actually worthy of being Lord Nage’s enemy. Previously, when he competed with Lord Nage for the Undying Divine Fire, he got scared. He’s probably not Lord Nage’s match. And now that Elarafate has secretly passed on information to us, it indirectly proves Elarafate doesn’t favor him. Our chances are even greater. On the journey there, we can ambush him a few times. Maybe he’ll drop dead before even reaching Undead City."
"The second option. Lord Nage, is there anything particularly important in Undead City?" Anthony asked, changing topics.
Ange shook his head.
"Then that’s good..."
Anthony was about to continue when Negris interrupted him, shouting, "Good my ass! That dead skull says it’s unimportant because he doesn’t own the place. Undead City has hundreds of thousands of Undead, an Origin Fragment, and the Source of Water—all incredibly important treasures. Don’t let him lead you astray."
"It doesn’t matter anyway. These things aren’t something the North Crown can destroy in a short time. We just need to get there ahead of him. Elarafate cannot remain uninvolved; we’ll start by asking him where the North Crown’s lair is. If he refuses, we’ll kidnap his wife and children."
Elarafate’s wife suddenly widened her eyes: What!? What does it have to do with her? But before she could do anything, she felt a gaze lock onto her.
"I...I kindly came to inform you; you can’t treat me like this." Lilianna didn’t know why, but after feeling that gaze fixed on her, a sense of terror gripped her.
Anthony said, "No, no, no! We literally came here to solve your egg-laying issue, saving you and Elarafate’s kid, yet you treat us this way? You despicable Crystal Dragon! Go tell Elarafate his wife and kid are in our hands. Reveal the location of the North Crown’s lair immediately, or else I’ll... I’ll..."
Thinking hard for a moment but unable to come up with a sufficiently intimidating threat, Anthony turned to Negris and asked, "What are dragons most afraid of?"
Negris pondered and replied, "Cut off her wings so she can only run around like a chicken? Pluck all her scales and make her streak naked? Get a few hundred lizards to lick her all over? Gross her out to death?"
Negris conjured up what it considered terrifying threats, and sure enough, Lilianna trembled in fear, physically uncomfortable.
Anthony helplessly rolled his eyes. "Is this how you threaten enemies? Forget it; let’s skip the bloody, cruel methods and just name a thing dragons genuinely fear—the Serpent of Misfortune."
The moment that name was spoken, Lilianna and Negris collectively flared their scales.
Negris was better off, having already befriended the Little Snake and knowing how much of a lackey it was. But Lilianna was different. The deep-seated fear buried in her bloodline made her tremble all over, wanting to flee.
However, as soon as she tried to move, her legs turned to jelly, and she collapsed, crawling on the ground. She stammered as she crawled, shouting, "Snake...snake, where’s the Serpent of Misfortune? Where is it? Ah! Ah! Get away, leave me alone, move aside."
She screamed while clawing at her scales, frantically twisting her neck, inspecting herself as if a cockroach had landed on her.
This intense reaction left Anthony and the others perplexed. They asked, "Lord Nage, were you also scared like this back then?"
"Of course not! I wasn’t scared at all. I was just startled. That’s totally different, got it?" Negris stubbornly defended.
No matter how much Negris tried to play it off, the Serpent of Misfortune’s grip on dragon bloodlines was undeniable. The remaining mystery was why the dragons of this world would share this kind of bloodline fear.
"Wasn’t the Serpent of Misfortune just a story made up by the Dragon God to scare children? Could it be the dragons here are also descendants of the Dragon God?" Anthony asked Ange in confusion.
Ange shook his head. In truth, he also had this question. As the Dragon God himself, Ange couldn’t recall any instances of his bloodline extending this far.
If the existence of the White Dragon Oleg could be chalked up to coincidence, then the strong bloodline resonance of Crystal Dragon Elarafate couldn’t be explained so easily. What exactly had allowed the Dragon God to spawn a lineage of dragons in such a distant place?
Ange didn’t dwell on it. If he couldn’t figure it out, he wouldn’t bother. He only ever dug to the root of things when planting seeds.
"Alright, alright, stop yelling. The Serpent of Misfortune hasn’t come. But if Elarafate doesn’t tell us where the North Crown’s lair is, I’ll really summon the Serpent to bite you," Anthony threatened fiercely.
Panicking, Lilianna quickly said, "No, no, no! Don’t summon the Serpent of Misfortune; I’ll take you there. If Elarafate won’t tell you, it doesn’t matter. I’ll take you myself."
"You know the North Crown’s lair?" Anthony asked, surprised.
Lilianna pounded her chest and said, "Of course. I, Lilianna, was once a famous war dragon among the Crystal Dragons. Whenever Lord North Crown had battles, he’d summon me. I only became low-profile after laying eggs."
"Alright, lead us to the North Crown’s lair. We’ll raid it first. Once it’s done, we’ll return your child to you," Anthony said.
Lilianna, who had been weak moments ago, suddenly regained her strength. She got up nimbly, her eyes sparkling as she stared at Anthony and asked, "Really?"
The initial plan was for Ange to solve her egg-laying issue, but the Juvenile Dragon would belong to Ange.
To secure the Juvenile Dragon’s safety, she had no choice but to deal with Ange, thankful for his assistance. Sometimes Negris truly couldn’t understand how Silver Coin had managed to trick them into agreeing to such a contract.
Anthony smiled and nodded. They had no shortage of dragons. Silver Coin was simply using the token’s value to its fullest, and now was the perfect moment for leveraging the Juvenile Dragon token.
Lilianna nodded excitedly and said, "Alright, follow me."
At this point, even if Elarafate tried to stop them, Lilianna would probably tear him apart to see the mission through. Everyone climbed onto Lilianna’s back, who shot off toward the Void in a particular direction.
The North Crown, still busy rallying forces, would never expect someone to raid his lair ahead of him.
