Chapter 75: Settlement

Relatives? Was it her cousins?

"It seems like quite a few people have come. What should we do? Maybe we should call Mr. Harper?" Lilian was worried that Jessie wouldn’t be able to handle it on her own.

"What’s there to be afraid of? Just let them in," Jessie said and sat directly on the sofa.

From the moment she posted her blog entry, she anticipated that they would come looking for trouble. She was initially wondering when they would arrive, but she didn’t have to ponder that anymore since they were here now.

On the other hand, Steve hurried over and was a bit curious when he saw so many people gathered at the door. After asking around for a bit, he discovered that they were all Jessie’s relatives.

Wasn’t this an opportunity for him to be the hero?

Maybe it could even change Jessie’s opinion of him.

With this thought, he squeezed through the crowd and came to the entrance of her shop. Before he even went inside, he heard Jessie’s loud voice.

"I’ll tell you this directly: I will never delete the blog post. Even if you’re here to apologize, I won’t accept it. If you still have some conscience, remember to just tell the truth once you’re in court. Don’t bring up irrelevant things to challenge my bottom line."

Her tone made the Moore family members very unhappy.

In fact, they didn’t really care about what people online were saying; it was just that it affected their work, which was why they had come to talk to her about it.

However, she had already started off by giving them a hard time.

The representative this time was Frankie. He was considered the most promising among the Moore descendants, having become an executive at a young age with a million-dollar salary. But due to this incident, he had been suspended by his company. Thus, he had no choice but to find Jessie and see if there was a solution to this.

"Jessie, don’t make a decision so quickly. After all, we’re family; blood relatives. Grandpa and Grandma indeed made some mistakes, but they have realized their wrongs and sent us over to apologize.

"Those two old people simply wanted to come and enjoy life in the city. They haven’t seen you in many years and miss their granddaughter. When they saw what you said online, it hurt them so much that they couldn’t even eat or sleep properly.

"Jessie, this is a family matter. Why bring it online? We are blood relatives! Can’t we resolve it properly?"

Lilian was listening nearby, getting angry. They were saying they wanted to resolve things properly, but they were only morally pressuring Jessie with their words. She had never seen such shameless people.

"Didn’t you start bashing Jessie with false rumors online first? Now that she does it back, you’re starting to claim it as a family issue? How shameless can you be?"

Frankie’s face immediately darkened as he replied in a deep voice, "This is a family matter; what’s it got to do with you?"

Seeing him intimidate Lilian, Jessie immediately shielded her.

"Even though I share the Moore surname, I don’t consider myself part of your family. Have you forgotten what you did over a decade ago? We made an agreement to cut ties back then, and we never had to pay for Grandpa and Grandma’s support. Despite all that, you’re here now talking about family; the Moore family must truly be a forgetful bunch.

"I initially thought of giving some money, but don’t forget that you twisted the facts and slandered me openly online. I don’t want any relationship with you now! Compared to you, Lilian is much closer to me."

"Jessie!" Frankie reprimanded, acting like an elder as he sternly said, "For so many years, have we ever asked you to care for Grandpa and Grandma? Even if they went too far back then, you’re still their granddaughter. It’s one thing to never visit them, but you also broke their hearts. Where is your conscience?

"I won’t even argue about what you said, but we’ve deleted everything we posted online. Shouldn’t you do the same? You intentionally posted those online just to hit us with negative impact. We could file a lawsuit against you for spreading online sentiments against us! It wouldn’t look good if it ended up in court."

Such scare tactics might’ve been able to frighten other people, but unfortunately, Jessie wasn’t afraid. fre(e)webnove.l.c.om

Accusing her of being heartless and brushing the elders’ past misdeeds aside as mere wrongdoings was beyond ridiculous.

Steve was getting more and more upset as he listened. Just as he was about to step forward to defend Jessie, Laura burst into the scene in fury, carrying Luke in her arms.

"I dare anyone to touch my daughter!"

Her commanding presence left Lilian in awe, while Jessie was surprised. "Mom, what are you doing here?"

Laura patted her on the shoulder, signaling her to stay calm. She then sneered, "You want to take it to court? Be my guest! Don’t forget, you were the ones who started the online bullying against us. Even if you delete your posts, evidence will never disappear. Everything you posted was twisted, but what we said was the truth, and we have evidence to support our words! Who do you think would stand a better chance in court?

"As for your job being affected, that’s the public responding to your wrongdoings! Why don’t you reflect on what you’ve done before this? You snatched away Jessie’s father’s compensation, and you even took the savings he left behind.

"When you were living a carefree life, did you ever think of us? Now that karma has come back to hit you, you’re bothering us! Let me tell you, it’s not happening! If you want to sue us, go ahead! I’ll be waiting for the court summons!"

Laura picked up a broom as she said that, using it to shove them out before slamming the store door shut.

"If you dare come again, don’t blame me for being rude!"

Lilian, watching Laura’s actions, couldn’t help but applaud. "Auntie, you’re incredible! I really admire you!"

Frankie, who got shoved out, had a dark look on his face. He originally wanted Jessie to delete the post and then spend some money to settle the issue, but he didn’t expect it to escalate to this.

After struggling so hard to reach his current position, he wasn’t about to let a minor issue take it away.

He would not allow that!

"Brother, what do we do now? She won’t agree to anything."

He rolled his eyes. "If soft tactics won’t work, then we will use hard ones! They’re just two women; we can’t lose to them, can we?"

Jessie, if you continue to refuse, don’t blame me for being rude!

He had spent quite a bit investigating her and Laura’s background for this matter.

"Mom, why are you here?" Jessie poured a glass of water for Laura.

After shouting so much earlier, Laura was indeed thirsty.

"I was out bringing Luke on a walk, so I thought I’d stop by and see you. When I saw so many people at your door, I knew something was wrong. I had expected them to come knocking sooner or later, but I didn’t think they would come to you."
