Chapter 50: Trending Topic
"Get out!" Kevin’s face darkened.
He and Jessie had not reached that level in their relationship, but he had to admit that he did feel an impulse to do something that night. Still, his rationality overcame his desire in the end.
"Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Here’s what you asked me to look into." Adam knew his temper and didn’t get upset, handing over the investigation results to Kevin.
Kevin’s expression softened a bit. Jessie’s family situation wasn’t complicated. Some of her cousins had indeed made a name for themselves, working as senior executives at the Rossi Group and earning over a million a year. Other than that, some had even already bought houses in the city.
Seeing this, he felt like her relatives were more and more outrageous. Despite having the means, they had seized most of the compensation money from the death of Jessie’s father.
Now, they wanted to exploit her and Laura to pay the down payment of a house, even choosing one from one of the most expensive areas in Grace City.
He had never seen such shameless people. The things they did to Jessie were excessive, but she still had somehow managed to maintain an optimistic attitude and lead a diligent life. The thought of this made Kevin’s heart ache more.
Chewing on the breakfast brought by his assistant, Adam noticed the unpleasant look on Kevin’s face and spoke up, "Heartbroken for your wife, huh? Want me to step in and teach them a lesson?"
“As for matters concerning my wife, I will handle them myself.”
"Alright, alright." He nodded, picking up a small piece of grilled steak. "Want to try some? My chef made it; it’s really good."
"I eat breakfast that my wife makes for me, unlike some people."
The comment left Adam speechless. He frowned, putting down his fork heavily. He had been going on nonstop about "my wife"—what, was he supposed to feel bad for not having one?
Yes, indeed, he didn’t have a wife.
Thinking about it, he quietly picked up his fork again with a feeling that Kevin was acting oddly and, perhaps, overly invested in this sudden wife of his.
He chewed on the steak, deciding not to comment further unless he might get teased further.
However, he had a strong feeling that Kevin was not far from falling into this relationship completely.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door. A security guard, panting and looking troubled, reported, "President Harper, Miss Rossi is here and causing a scene at the entrance. She keeps insisting on seeing you, and she even..."
The guard was unable to finish his words, hesitating.
"Speak up!" Kevin’s face turned grim.
"Yes, Miss Rossi even arranged a heart-shaped candle set outside and a drone to confess her love to you."
Kevin had not even replied yet, but Adam was already curious. "This Miss Rossi is really something else; she’s quite bold. Why don’t you consider her? In all these years, no woman has dared to be so bold and direct with you."
Kevin gave him a glance before coldly replying, "If you think she’s so great, then why don’t you be with her?"
"She’s not my type." Adam shrugged, but his feet instinctively took him to the window, where he could clearly see the large candle setup and the drone in the sky spelling "I love you."
She was going all-out for Kevin.
He silently noted that this confession method might work for him next time.
Following Kevin’s orders, the security arrived at the scene with a bunch of fire extinguishers.
"Miss Rossi, please take your leave."
As per Kevin’s instructions, they extinguished all the candles but didn’t dare to approach Julia Rossi. If anything happened to her, not to mention that the Rossi family wouldn’t spare them, this could even potentially impact the business relations between the two families.
However, Julia was undeterred as she shouted toward Harper Group’s building, "Kevin! I like you! I want to be with you!"
As the daughter of the Rossi family, and with Kevin being the center of attention as Grace City’s prince, the media naturally flocked to capture the moment.
She ignored the cameras, even feeling like things would be better this way, so that everyone in Grace City would know how she felt toward Kevin.
"Julia!"
A red sports car pulled up at the entrance. Leon Rossi briskly walked over to her with a dark expression, grabbing her wrist. "Come home with me!"
She was reluctant. "Brother, I’m confessing to Kevin right now! Don’t stop me. He hasn’t even come out; how will he know my feelings? I’ve liked him for so long; it has to be grand and bold so that I can show him my sincerity."
However, Leon’s cold gaze silenced her shortly after. She lowered her head, not daring to speak.
Once in the car, he drove away from Harper Group. If Kevin had not called him to complain, he wouldn’t have found out Julia had done something this embarrassing in public.
Julia glanced at his face cautiously, speaking softly, "Brother, don’t be angry."
"How can I not be angry? Do you even know what you’re doing? Is this how a Rossi family daughter should act?" His head throbbed with anger.
He regretted keeping Julia abroad for so long; she had not learned much except for ways to bravely pursue love.
Julia muttered softly, "But I’ve liked him for so many years. How will he know if I don’t show him my feelings?"
"I already made it clear last time—he’s not suitable for you. After all these years, has any woman ever gotten close to him? Don’t you know about that?"
"That’s because he hasn’t met me yet. Once he likes me, he won’t treat me like that!"
Leon looked at her confident demeanor, suddenly feeling a sense of defeat. Talking to her was basically talking to a brick wall.
Julia believed that if she liked Kevin, then she would have to fight for it, or else she would regret it. Her confidence that he would soon fall for her was unshakeable.
Meanwhile, her bold declaration quickly became trending news, with stories about Grace City’s prince and the Rossi family’s daughter flooding everywhere.
Jessie was busy in her shop, overhearing discussions about the news.
"Did you see Miss Rossi boldly pursuing her love?"
"Yes, I did. Isn’t it like a scene from a novel? It was so dreamy!"
Jessie raised her eyebrows, uninterested as she served the cake she had just made. "Here’s the cake you ordered."
Just as she was about to leave, she caught a glimpse of the photo on the screen and froze up momentarily.
Wasn’t that Kevin? Was he working at Harper Group?
