Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 253: His Speech
Chapter 253: His Speech
"Welcome out President-elect Antony Crawford and his family!!!"
The anchor announced amidst the loud cheer of the thousands that had gathered in the bid arena.
Holding Marcella’s hand, Tony entered the big stage, waving.
Blue, white, and red confetti danced its way down and balloons flew high up in the sky. Marcella squinted her eyes at the powerful lights on them.
Although she was used to similar stages, she knew this was far more different. She was now the First Lady!
She made sure her children were comfortable and stood to the side as Tony made his speech. She watched the crowd go wild for Tony. They loved and respected him.
She was proud to call herself his wife. The man everyone admired was her husband. How lucky was she?
She laughed and joined him as he included her in his speech. He waved his hand asking her to stand closer to him. Marcella walked to him.
"My beloved wife, without whom I won’t be the man I am today," Tony said. "My strength and my peace. My rock and my resting place. Marrying her was the best thing I did."
Marcella’s eyes clouded. It was one thing he said to her, but to confess the same in front of an entire nation...
How lucky am I?
Tony wanted to let her speak, but seeing that she was emotional, he scrapped that idea. Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he pulled her closer and kissed her. "Love you, Birdie."
Marcella smiled. She couldn’t even speak as she was overwhelmed with emotions.
When she met him after all those years, she didn’t feel right to even stand by his side. He was like an eagle soaring high above, while she was just a small worm whose neck hurt looking at him soaring majestically.
But that majestic eagle got to the ground to her and lifted her up to soar high. She thought of herself as a worm but he called her "Birdie" and brought her high with him.
And here she is... standing shoulder to shoulder, as an equal, with the smartest person she knew.
Who would have thought she would end up this way?
Well, her father knew...
She missed her father. But looking at the side profile of the man confidently smiling and assuring the crowd, her sadness went away.
I have him. My Sweet Baby Tony is with me.
Many wanted to take pictures with Tony and Marcella. After the speech was over, Marcella sent their kids to the room in the hotel nearby.
In the dinner afterward, Marcella sensed the difference in treatment. They already had secret service protection as Tony was the next President. They were guarding them like hawks.
She wouldn’t lie. Flying high above everyone else was enticing. No wonder people want that power.
She looked around. Randy had a good table in the front. He had become the founder of the most selling newspaper in the country. Henry was wearing a grand tuxedo and raised his glass at her. Moving to Hollywood to run their security had done him well.
Mclaughlin was there too. Although she didn’t trust him much, he never betrayed her. Now he was transferring his businesses to his son and his son was more reasonable and pleaded allegiance to them.
John Emerson smiled at her. He had become the director of the FBI. Louis couldn’t attend the party although Marcella invited him. He was on a business trip out of the country.
Mary was glad to be there. Although her age was getting her, she wanted to be there. She was proudly telling everyone that she knew the president and his family really well.
Marcella had planned on bringing her uncle and his family for the swearing-in ceremony. She doubted he would attend though. He would think the optics wouldn’t be good if he attended an official ceremony of another country.
Marcella was delighted to be surrounded by the people who loved and supported her throughout the years. She thanked them all individually from her heart.
Many men were impressed by the suit Tony was wearing. Even women complimented that the tailoring was done so well. Apparently, Tony was hiding who his tailor was till then.
Since they opened up the topic, Marcella gave them the truth. Tailor Caruso died but his shop was taken over by his son. Many were impressed when she told them that Tony didn’t wear big brands.
Any dress didn’t have to be from a big brand to make an impression. A well-tailored outfit would be better than any ill-fitting name-brand.
Also, the most important thing is the attitude of the person. A person should wear the clothes and it shouldn’t be the other way around.
After the dinner, they opted to stay in the hotel as it was almost daybreak. Their kids were sleeping and Marcella curled up beside Tony.
"Sleep for as long as you want to," Tony said caressing her head.
"Aren’t you sleeping?" she asked.
"I have to be in the office in the morning. Don’t panic when you do not see me here," he poked her cheek.
Marcella scoffed. "When have I panicked?"
"You haven’t?" Tony asked.
"No, I don’t remember panicking ever. You made sure I wouldn’t panic. You left notes each time and you’d call me..." Marcella said rubbing his chest. "You’re the best."
"You think I’m the best?" Tony asked.
He loved hearing praises from her.
"The best," Marcella smiled. "The best for me."
"I’m not the best without you," Tony said.
Marcella was too tired to ask him why he thought that way. He was his own man. How was she responsible for his decision to be the perfect husband?
Tony kissed her earlobe. She enabled him to stay the way he was for all these years. Every time she appreciated him and understood him, she wanted to be better for her. He still thought he had room to grow.
"I love you, Birdie..." he said.
"Love you too, Tony baby..." Marcella whispered as she fell asleep.
