Chapter 251: Keeping Promise

The tour to Ayberia became a success as the negotiations went on smoothly. They stayed there for ten days and were given a tour of the country with the utmost respect anyone could get.

After the King expressed regret in his heart and Marcella assured him he had long paid his debt, the dynamics between them changed and Marcella could relax.

She asked for fewer staff to attend to her and they granted her wish. Tony and Marcella enjoyed the tour and took a lot of pictures. They wanted to return to Ayberia sooner with their kids.

They had such a nice experience there.

"You will be the next President. It’s my promise. William told me how you two took care of them. Margaret is in love with Marcella," the King said.

Tony could only accept his promise. This promise was not for what Don DeAngelo did in the past. Because the King was happy, they took care of his family when they visited their country.

"Is it okay for some other country to influence our country’s election?" Marcella asked. She was grateful for the help but it did make her wonder.

Tony said nothing.

"It should be you, Tony," Marcella leaned on him.

She was not a naïve woman. She knew Tony was not the only one with strong backing from another country. As the world is getting globalized, one country’s affairs interest other countries as every country is connected through trade.

"I know it," Tony held her hand. "Next time we are going on a tour to another country, we will be on Air Force 1. It’s a promise," he kissed her hand.

Marcella smiled leaning on his chest. She knew he would keep his promise. "Tell me what I need to do," she said.

He never told her what to do. She had to take her own initiative. She didn’t like to wrack her brain much.

Tony hummed. He didn’t have to tell her anything. She was smarter than him. Her plans would work better.

"Have you pulled out the stocks from Apple Inc.?" he asked.

She had invested almost a million when she inherited her father’s money. But lately, the stocks aren’t doing well and she was talking about pulling out.

"Should I?" she asked. He never gave opinions about her investments either. At times, she felt abandoned.

"Maybe not...?" Tony said. If she was sure of pulling out, she would have already. If she didn’t, then she must be deliberating.

"I heard the founder might return to the company. Maybe I should hold on for a few more years..." Marcella said. She just felt like she shouldn’t pull out her Apple stocks.

Tony hummed. There she is, his wife! She just had powerful instincts combined with her knowledge. She could earn money without doing anything.

"I think in the future everyone will have a small computer in their hands...maybe in their phones..." Marcella said.

Tony laughed finding that idea farfetched. "You think so?"

Marcella shrugged. "There is a possibility. I mean, computers have greatly reduced in size and we can carry our phones in our hands. There are pagers too. I don’t understand how the internet works either. But science is advancing greatly. Maybe in the future, we will have computers in our hands," she said.

Tony kissed her head. "If you think so..." He said. What would he know? She is the smarter one. What she said might come true.

They returned to their country. Tony couldn’t keep his promise of taking her on the next official tour on the Air Force 1 for he received an invitation to visit many countries.

AS every official tour made national news, people got confident with Tony as he had great diplomatic ability. Every tour Tony went on was a success and more than anything, his attitude and Marcella’s fashion choices propelled them to stardom in their country.

The party had no other way than to allow Tony to run his campaign. Wherever Tony went in the country, he was welcomed. No one was surprised when he won the primary with a strong lead against the incumbent president.

Tony’s charm and knowledge were his greatest asset, along with Marcella. Marcella encouraged a grassroots campaign with volunteers. She also attended many interviews as she learned that people had so much interest in her and that her popularity could help Tony.

It was tough for her to handle Tony’s campaign along with her kids’ studies. She tried to do her best at both. Thankfully, her children were very understanding of the family situation and acted responsibly reducing their parents’ burden a lot.

The election day came. As always, Tony was relaxed on Election Day. On the counting day, he stayed home. He was with her on the counting day of his first election as she gave birth to Nicholas. From then on, he made it a tradition to stay with her on counting day.

Maybe his sentiments were real. He never lost a single election.

The entire day, Tony spent time with family. He had asked his people not to disturb him and yet there were more incoming calls. He didn’t answer any calls.

In the evening, his cell phone rang. It was from his assistant.

The final results must be out...

Marcella picked up the thick black mobile phone and gave it to Tony. Tony answered his call. For a long time, he didn’t say anything.

Joey, who was holding back till then couldn’t hold on anymore and rushed to the living room and turned on the TV. Every channel was broadcasting the counts.

Joey read the chyron running at the bottom of the screen.

ANTHONY CRAWFORD IS THE 41ST PRESIDENT OF THE NATION!!!

"Congratulations, Dad!" Joey rushed to Tony and hugged him. Their other boys joined them. Tony was suffocating in their embrace.

Marcella joined in the hug too, wiping the corner of her eyes.

"You did it, Tony," she said.

When he said that she was going to bring her to the White House that day, kneeling in front of her, she thought it was farfetched. She was even a little doubtful.

But he did it! He worked hard and reached where he wanted to be!

The phones rang incessantly. Marcella brought the boys to the living room to let Tony deal with the calls and messages.
