Chapter 247: First Outing

In the days that followed, Beth went rogue as she was provoked. Her husband’s interview was aired and her counter statement was not believed by the people.

The heartless way she acted toward her son who tried to talk to her was published in every gossip rag exposing her true behavior toward her family.

Beth cared about none of that. doubled down and named Tony as the married man she had an affair with. She said that she had proof of Tony’s infidelity and she was willing to release everything to the media.

Tony’s side took action and released a legal statement contending her allegations and invited her to settle it in court.

Beth tried to manipulate the public still with her fake tears and using some naïve feminists who thought that all men are violent offenders and that Beth must be telling the truth.

It did cause some damage to Tony’s reputation and caused speculation to arise about him running for the Senate.

Tony was not bothered by what was going on there. He knew he won already. He didn’t let that barking dog ruin his mood. He used his power and shut down every news organization that wrote about his affair non-stop by suing them. He then put a gag order on Beth by taking her to court for defamation.

Their lawyers were talking as Beth appeared to want to settle out of court. She wanted a statement issued by Tony apologizing to her for using her.

Tony didn’t agree to that, of course.

At that time, Tony got an invite to attend the premiere of a movie. Usually, Tony wouldn’t attend the premieres since both Marcella and he didn’t like to mingle with vague narcissistic Hollywood stars.

This time, however, Marcella wanted to attend the premiere.

"I would be the perfect chance for our outing after the scandal broke," Marcella told Tony.

Tony agreed. After the scandal broke, they didn’t appear in public together. She was busy taking care of the kids and protecting them from hearing about the rumors floating around and he was busy with his work and the court case.

This would be a nice opportunity.

On the day of the premiere, Tony was pushed out of his room by Marcella and the horde of women she had hired to help her get ready. He didn’t know that a woman needed ten women to get ready. She had a stylist, a hairdresser, a nail artist, a makeup artist, and other staff he didn’t care to remember.

She didn’t even show him the dress she was going to wear. She did ask him if he would have any suggestions as to what she couldn’t wear. He didn’t have any such suggestion. She always dressed appropriately for any occasion and she never behaved to sully his name. He had no worries even if she wanted to dress up glamorously.

He would love to show off his wife. At forty, after giving him five sons, she could put most thirty-year-olds to shame with how beautiful she was.

He saw her barefaced in the house and he was amazed by how youthful she looked. With makeup, she would look like she was in her twenties, he knew.

He would be proud of it. He wished she would dress glamorously. Which of those stars had the charm and elegance of his wife? They are just shiny and have no inner beauty. His wife had the whole package and she would beat up everyone; not that it was a contest.

As always, she chose his outfit. It looked like a new tuxedo and since it was a black-tie event, he had a bow tie. He didn’t know how to tie a bowtie and he knocked on her door. Usually, his tie would give him an idea of what color her dress was as she always matched his tie with her dress. But since he was wearing a black tie, he was unsure what color she would be wearing.

To his surprise, Tony was almost pushed out of his bedroom by the stylist his wife hired. When he insisted that he saw his wife, he was ignored. In the end, someone else tied his bowtie and he was not very impressed.

Why the secret?

He was asked to wait in the car. Since his wife told him that, he had to listen to her. He tried to sneak a peek but he couldn’t get a view of her attire. He only saw her face. She was beautiful.

Since he got what he wanted to a little extent, he went and waited for her in the car. In the final moment, she came out rushing. Tony looked at her but she was covered in an oversized coat and he couldn’t see what she was wearing.

"You can see me when others see me..." Marcella smiled playfully noticing the disappointment on her husband’s face.

"Then what’s the purpose of that ring I gave you?" he asked.

He was not impressed. She was his wife. Why should he wait with the others to see her dressed up?

He was angry but he couldn’t help but stare at her face. The ruby red lipstick suited her skin and even the eye makeup was different from how she wore it. She looked glamorous and yet not out of character. She still looked elegant.

They reached the venue. Tony got down first and held the car door open for her. Her ruby red shoe was the first thing visible and then she came out.

Tony was holding her hand and he stopped and stared. The ruby-red dress with a sweetheart neckline and a slit fit her like her second skin, accentuating her curves. She wore one of her mother’s chunky necklace set adding a royal elegance to the glamourous attire.

From head to toe, she reeked of beauty. Although she showed more skin than she ever did, she looked graceful rather than as tacky.

Amidst the flashes of cameras, Tony stood closer to her admiring her. His chest puffed up with pride. "You are stunning, my love," he whispered leaning to her ear.

This amazing woman is my wife!

Like a shy bride, Marcella bowed her head and covered her lips to control her smile.

The next day, pictures of Tony and Marcella occupied the better part of the entertainment portion of the national papers. Everyone could see by their expressions that that was not a couple whose marriage was on the rocks.

Also, everyone wondered why Tony would look at another woman older than him when he had such a pretty wife at home.

While Beth was getting ignored everywhere, Marcella’s popularity skyrocketed.
