Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 216: Odd Behaviour
Chapter 216: Odd Behaviour
After putting Joey back to sleep, Tony took a quick shower and joined Marcella in the dining room. Although Marcella had a lot to ask him, she waited seeing his smile as he savored her cooking.
"OH, I missed this so much, Birdie... The food was terrible. At times, we managed to get homecooked meals but nothing could get close to this..." he pointed at his plate.
Marcella’s face bloomed with a smile. She was glad she put the effort to cook the meal herself. She couldn’t stand upright for a long time these days and her legs swelled, but she wanted to cook for him.
Worth it!
Tony had three helpings that night. Usually, he avoided eating a lot late at night, but he must have missed her cooking, he ate a lot.
Marcella put away the plates and poured him a glass of beer. She had a feeling he would want to drink beer that night and she was right.
"My sweet Birdie..." he pulled her into his embrace.
Marcella leaned comfortably on his shoulder.
Hugging her close, he kissed her head. "I missed you badly," he said. "Now, I am home..."
Marcella patted his chest. "You’re home..."
He held her cheek and kissed her. Marcella pulled back as his kiss got deeper. She knew what he wanted. She didn’t feel like it. The baby was kicking so much and she didn’t feel like it.
Tony understood her and still, he didn’t let go of her. He hugged her to his chest.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
Talia looked at his tired eyes. Even through that, his sapphire eyes held the affection as always.
"Can’t wait to have this baby," she smiled.
She didn’t think of it much when Gloria said it, but as days passed, she started feeling that way.
"You still have two months left," Tony said. It wouldn’t be good if the baby came out now. "Oh, how I wish I could do anything to lessen your burden..." he said.
Marcella kissed his cheek. "It’s my burden; a sweet burden. I don’t mind although it’s hard at times," she said.
She didn’t want to complain too much in case Tony wouldn’t allow her to go through this again.
"You’re strong and amazing," Tony kissed her forehead. "I’m useless and yet you are so... I love you so much, Birdie..."
Marcella closed her eyes to relish the warmth on her forehead. He was so warm. She could feel the stiffness between his legs. "I too am useless..." she sighed. "I cannot give you what you want..."
"Stop it," Tony gently bit the tip of her nose. "You are nurturing our next generation. Do you know how great that is? Only you can do this! Also... if you really want to help, you can..." With a smirk, he looked at her hand. Even if he was tired, he could find time for that. He missed intimacy with his wife for a very long time.
He meant every word of it. Even without his help, she managed to handle everything on her own. How could she call herself useless? He was the useless one!
Marcella said nothing for some time and stared at his face.
"What?" he asked, breaking the silence. She looked a little disturbed and he was confused by her expression. "Is something wrong?"
"Only I?" she asked.
Tony furrowed his brows. The tiredness on his face was accentuated as he donned a confused expression.
"Any and almost every woman can do it," she said. "At least for company, when the wife’s not feeling like it... It’s human tendency to yearn for company."
What she said made Tony’s heart skip a beat. "Not for me," he refuted immediately. "For me, you are the only one..."
What made her doubt that?
"Is that the case?" Marcella asked and stood up. She couldn’t get up from the couch and Tony helped her. Her belly was getting big and she found simple tasks hard to do. Tony only felt guiltier for leaving her on her own for a long time.
"Is something the matter, Birdie?" he asked seeing her walking to the stairs without even looking at him.
Holding the railing, she turned to look at him. "You forgot to mention that Beth met you on the way. I met with Beth and she forgot to mention your meeting too," she let out a scoff but then she brought up a smile to her face.
"She must have really bothered with her after you asked me not to join you every time I called you. Or, were you happy to have a familiar face join your campaign?"
Marcella heard from someone only a couple of days earlier about the meeting Tony had with Beth during his travels. Beth didn’t make any public appearance or let her presence there known, but that was an awfully big meeting they had in secret. She was shocked to hear that the meeting happened before she talked with Beth.
Leave Beth. Why didn’t Tony mention that meeting to her?
Marcella observed Tony. His face had lost the smile she was accustomed to, and there was a blank stare that didn’t suit him.
"Birdie, I..." he wetted his lips and took a step forward. "Who told you about this?"
His eyebrows were furrowed and his lips twitched. He was angry.
Marcella waited to see if he would add anything to it. Because his anger made her think not-so-positive thoughts.
"I’m sorry, I..." Marcella brought a smile to her face. "I am tired, Tony. I’ll go to sleep."
Tony watched her getting up on the stairs slowly. She didn’t even take one glance at him. Just as her figure disappeared, he plopped on the couch, holding his chest.
How did she know?
He couldn’t even think properly as the phone rang. He answered the call mechanically. Hearing the news from the other side, he was not pleased.
"I cannot do that," he said. "My wife is not up for it."
"You’ve already talked to her and she said yes?" Tony asked raising his brows.
How come he didn’t know about it if she knew? She didn’t tell him about it!
"I’ll see..." He ended the call.
What is going on with her?
