Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -

Chapter 209: Fast Action
The next day, Marcella investigated how Rourke managed to figure out that she was behind Natalie’s magazine interview. It was not yet public knowledge that the owner of the magazine—Randy, was Marcella’s friend.
Tony had the answer.
Just like she predicted, the district attorney had gotten involved in it. Since Natalie had candidly spoken about the connections Rourke had, the issue was noted by the party members and had reached Washington D.C. The higher-ups in the party wanted this issue sorted out and the district attorney had acted against the law to investigate the magazine company and found out the connection with Randy.
"So, they can act this fast when it concerns them, huh?" Marcella scoffed. "Regular people who need help can’t have a swift justice..."
Tony sighed. He was one of the "they" his wife mentioned. She was one of "them" too. But she would never agree to it. He didn’t care about that. He only cared about her safety.
Theodore Jacob Harley, the majority party leader of the house of representatives was Tony’s major concern. Although their district had the opposition party representing them, Tony knew in D.C, all those higher-ups were chummy with each other and looked out for each other.
Certainly, Harley will be contacted by the opposite party to talk to Marcella to put a stop to everything. It would become a big issue if a prominent member of the government was found to be lending a helping hand to a child abuser.
Tony waited for that phone call. He knew he had to handle it. Marcella wouldn’t back off.
Having enmity toward Don DeAngelo, Harley had a hand in Don’s death. He wouldn’t like Marcella’s determination. He would use this chance to attack the DeAngelo family again.
"Remember what I said about Putrid Harley?" Tony reminded her. "He might jump on in this issue."
Marcella shrugged. She was not worried about herself. However, she had one great concern.
"You be careful, Tony," she hugged him.
Any danger would have to pass Tony to befall her. He would go to any extremes to protect her.
"I will," Tony said.
He had a feeling this would happen and already informed Mclaughlin. He needed to talk to McLaughlin. He would know the plans of those worms in D.C. After all, the worms didn’t have to guts to act on their own. They will seek the help of others to do their dirty deeds.
"Will you..." Tony bit his lips to stop himself. He wanted to ask her to lay low for some days until he gets a grip on things, but he didn’t want to stop her.
What was the use of him if he couldn’t even let his wife do what she wanted to do? He needed to be more effective. She shouldn’t be stopping.
"I love you, Birdie. Do what you have to do," he kissed her forehead. "Don’t go anywhere alone."
Marcella nodded. She thought that he might stop her but he didn’t. She appreciated it. Things are going to get interesting from now on.
Although the other party tried to bury that magazine article, since it was a big accusation, the local news and radio hosts caught up on it. It was the breaking news in the evening.
Many female-rights activists and children welfare activists caught on it and called the radio stations asking for a police inquiry.
If the accusation was credible, they wanted Rourke to be arrested and face the law. Even if it was not, they still wanted and investigation since the accusation was of that sort.
Marcella was following every news. Everyone predicted that it would become a national news in a couple of days.
Tony came home late that night and Marcella sat by his side as he had his dinner.
"Did you eat anything?" Tony asked rubbing her back.
"I ate earlier. I was hungry and I’ve been feeling bloated lately and I can’t eat late," she said.
"Good," Tony nodded. "You don’t have to wait for me. If you’re tired, go to sleep. I’ll clean up here," he added.
"No, I’m fine," she leaned on his shoulder. "I’ll wait for you."
Although he was tired, he found joy in holding her.
Tony finished dinner. Marcella got his plate and washed it. Tony stood by her side, staring at the window. The glass of scotch he had in his hand was untouched for a long time.
"What is it?" Marcella asked wiping her hands in a towel. He looked deep in thought.
"Nothing," he shook his head. He then stared at the glass in his hands with his eyebrows furrowed.
"You’re not helping me by keeping stuff from me, Tony," she reminded him. She thought they had established that already. Maybe hiding things is a part of Tony’s protective instinct. But she needed no such protection and she had to remind him.
"Ah, yes," Tony let out a deep sigh and hugged her.
Holding her, he gently swayed. Marcella caught up with his rhythm and they danced without any music.
"I checked with Mclaughlin and others, Birdie," he kissed her head. "It’s odd... It’s...eerily quiet."
Marcella hugged him. She too was surprised by that. With how big an issue that was, it should cause some splatter in the political circle. How come it was quiet?
At that time, the phone rang and Tony stared at the phone. "It could be Harley," he said.
He answered the call and it didn’t even last a minute.
"This is going to become the front-page news in The Times tomorrow," Tony said.
"What?" Marcella raised her brows. "This soon?"
She thought it would take at least two days for it to become a national sensational news. She didn’t think it would happen this early.
"The attorney general wants the DA to get investigated secretly," Tony added.
"Secretly?" Marcella furrowed her brows.
"They wouldn’t let him go because he aided a child-r@pist. It would affect their party. They will throw him out stating some other reason. It’s politics," Tony shrugged.
"That... was fast..."
Marcella didn’t know what else to say.
"It is, isn’t it?" Tony gulped down the glass of scotch.
"Are they going investigate that coach?" she asked.
She didn’t care much about the DA. However, she wanted that beast to be put behind the bars. She had heard stories about how those types of people are handled in prison.
She wanted to end him.
"Not sure if that would happen. They would try to make a deal with~"
Just as Tony was speaking, the phone rang. Tony answered the phone.
"Yes, this is Antony Crawford speaking, Mr. Harley," Tony said.
Marcella ran to the kitchen to listen in the call.
