Chapter 194: Happy Days
Chapter 194: Happy Days
"What did Mark Paulo tell you?" Marcella asked.
He must have said something that made Tony leave in a hurry.
Tony shrugged. "That I can watch it all end."
Marcella realized that it was all Mark’s plan to end Paul that day. "How did he end up becoming the prey?" she asked.
"There’s a Chinese proverb: The mantis stalks the cicada unaware of the oriole behind," Tony said.
Marcella nodded. Even after planning for a long time, Mark was bettered.
"Mark might be smart but he was not Don. Don would have planned—or if you were aware, you would have made a better plan," Tony said.
Marcella chuckled. "You always think a bit too much of me. I am not very smart, Tony."
Only after saying that did, she realize that Tony didn’t like it when she said that. She quickly leaned and kissed the frown off his face. Tony smiled. She might not say the right thing always, but she knew how to handle Tony.
"How big of a problem will be Andrew Mellon?" Marcella asked. "He is a wounded snake now."
Tony pulled her into his embrace. She could say that he didn’t answer her because he had been thinking the same too.
"We’ll get through this together, Tony. I know we will," she said.
Was she scared? Yes. He might not say it aloud but she knew Tony was scared too. It’s good to be scared. Then, they can be alert.
"We will fight to keep our family safe," she added.
Tony smiled and kissed her head. Just when he was about to lose hope, his wife found a way to give him enthusiasm. He need not be worried. He had the smartest person fighting by his corner. He had nothing to worry about.
Tony had a lot of visitors. Stella came with a big basket of fruits and Marcella showed her around the house. Stella was awed by everything but Marcella saw that her eyes missed something Beth’s eyes had—Jealousy.
Both Stella and Beth came from almost the same background. But Stella was happy seeing the expensive stuff in their home whereas Beth was jealous and tried to find fault in everything.
Marcella didn’t think about it further. Beth had heard that Tony got hurt and called home. She talked to Beth for more than an hour. Beth was doing well. She had a lot of movies lined up for her and she said she had found an admirer in LA.
Stella asked about their honeymoon plans (again!!). At least Stella never asks her about having another child like every other person asked. That made Marcella relax around Stella.
Marcella joked that she cannot go on a honeymoon more than a year after their wedding. Stella shook her head and sighed. She was highly disappointed. Marcella told Stella about her cousin’s wedding. Stella got excited and asked Marcella to utilize this to kidnap her husband on a honeymoon.
Marcella could only sigh. When Marcella explained their plan, Stella let out a deep sigh.
"You are a lost cause, Marcella," she said.
Marcella was a little hurt by Stella’s words. But she got over it pretty soon. She had to work together with the man she married for their marriage to work.
By Christmas, Tony was healed entirely. She couldn’t see any change on Tony’s face. He was handsome as ever. Henry who saw him after a while saw some changes on his face. He joked that only now did Tony look like he was from the streets and not as a Lord who hadn’t seen a day of work in his life.
Marcella could only chuckle. Tony did have an aristocratic bearing. She didn’t think others saw him that way too. She didn’t mind. If Tony did look like he was from the streets, it would be beneficial too. People would think twice before messing with him.
That Christmas was special for them. Joey could walk and it was cute watching him trying to help her in decorating the house. He was like a little angel in the house, walking beside her and trying to help her. When she gave him some "chores" he would do it with all seriousness and all he expected back was a pat on his head.
Adorable munchkin!
After decorating the house, Marcella baked a cake for little Joey with a lot of icing to pay for his hard work. They waited for Tony’s arrival to put the star on the top of the tree and turn on the lights.
Marcella snapped some pictures as Tony helped Joey put the tree topper. After that, they chose the picture for their card. Tony chose the one where she was sitting on an armchair. Tony was standing by her left side and Joey was sitting on the right arm of the chair. She looked surrounded in the picture and she was the main focus of the picture as she was in the center.
Of course, she didn’t notice all that at first. She just checked if everyone looked good in that picture and nothing else. Mary was the one who noticed that detail.
When she looked at the picture with that detail in mind, Marcella was touched. Maybe that was conscious, or it was an unconscious decision. It showed how Tony considers the prime focus.
She married a good man!
The Christmas and the New Year was peaceful and festive. Tony didn’t go to work the entire week and stayed home. He played with Joey when she didn’t let him "play" with her. He took Joey on walks and they also went to a lot of picnic spots. Marcella took a lot of pictures.
Seeing Tony sleeping on her lap after eating his fill, her lips curved.
This is better than a honeymoon!
After the holidays were over, the Congress resumed, and with that came Tony’s workload. He was too busy. Marcella too didn’t stay at home. She went to different areas and talked to the people—she loved doing that.
If she was doing it out of obligation or with an agenda, she would have been bored with that but she got excited to meet new people and listen to them. She made a lot of new friends.
She found some investments for her money too. Rather than keeping the money idly, she decided that it would be wise to invest it elsewhere. With the rate she was spending on charity, she knew she needed to have some ways of income.
She hoped her investments paid off well. Otherwise, she might not have enough to do charity work.
