Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 171: Handling Alone
Chapter 171: Handling Alone
"You’re not wearing the shirt I chose," Marcella said. She wanted to see his reaction.
She felt like a fish out of water not knowing what he was thinking. If he had something to say, he could. Why was he not saying anything?
She regretted asking the question seeing his reaction. She had never seen him that angry. She feared he might hurt her. His eyes were red and the nerves on his forehead were popping, his jaws were clenched and face was twitching.
"I lied, Tony," she said.
She didn’t want to run away. She had made it her principle to not lie to him and she was not going to break it because he was mad.
"Beth was in this room. She made all the mess. I am sorry. I couldn’t refuse her when she was excited. It was my fault to break our promise. I... It might appear that I prioritized her, but I love you the most. I understand why you are mad. I knew you have important papers in the room and yet~"
"We are going out," Tony interjected her.
The anger on his face subsided. He hid the photograph behind his back. He had no reason to get mad at her. She was not the one at fault. That woman dealt with him and he will deal with her directly. There was no need to involve his wife in this.
He didn’t care anymore. He didn’t want Marcella to get hurt by that woman. He had decided to protect her even if she didn’t need protection. It was his duty as her husband.
He had already a little softened seeing her wearing the same dress she wore for their ceremony. She must have planned a lot and everything had gone to ruins.
He didn’t want to dwell on it. The day was not over yet. They can still have their fun.
Marcella looked at him with her eyes wide. "Out?"
She still didn’t understand what he was thinking. He didn’t look as mad as before. Maybe he calmed down as she apologized.
"For dinner," he gently cupped her cheek. The smile that she loved seeing on his face was back. His eyes beamed blue as the dark clouds on his face disappeared.
"But I prepared dinner already," she said. She was still confused.
"I know," he brushed her hair gently. "Let’s go out anyways... What do you say?" he asked.
He was not going to touch anything that was in this house when that woman was in the house. Who knows what else she did?
Marcella was not convinced and nodded half-heartedly. He kissed her forehead.
"I love you, Marcella Crawford," he said with a smile.
A beautiful smile bloomed on Marcella’s confused face. The greyness on her face dissipated to a beautiful blush. Those three words from his heart brightened up her mood.
"Love you too, Tony," she said from her heart.
"Let me get my jacket," she ran into the closet.
Tony crumpled the photograph and tore it into tiny little shreds. When Marcella returned with a coat for him, his smile widened. She chose similar coats for both of them.
He hooked her arms in his.
"Do you want to drive?" he asked.
Marcella shook her head. She still loved to get driven. She drove only when it was necessary.
"Pamper me, Mr. Crawford," she said.
She was glad Tony was back to his usual self.
Tony brought her to a popular restaurant. After dinner, he brought her to the beach far away from the city. It was already midnight and there was no one around. Holding his hand, Marcella was not scared.
The half-moon was hanging on the sky and other than the moon, there wasn’t any light on the beach. The sand was large, almost like pebbles. As they walked, they heard the crushing sound underneath their feet.
Marcella leaned on his arm as she walked. They didn’t say a word and yet she felt so close to him. It was better than rolling on the bed, she thought at that moment.
"Here," he gave her a box. "Thank you for marrying me and giving me the best year of my life, Marcella," he kissed her forehead.
Marcella couldn’t see what it was as it was dark. The box looked the size of a necklace box. Something glittered gloriously in the moonlight. She figured it would be a necklace.
She would love the gift whatever it was but she was more touched by his words.
"Are you sure? Is this the best year in your life?" she asked. "I was not perfect. I caused you a lot of headaches. Even today, I..." she let out a sigh.
She wanted to know more about what he said.
Tony chuckled. "Was I even close to perfect?" he asked holding her hand closer. "You are my answered prayer now. I am not letting go of you ever."
Answered prayer, he said.
Marcella’s heart skipped a beat. It had been a year since they got married and still, he could make her heart skip a beat like it did when she was a teenager in love.
"I’ll hold on to that promise," she said.
She wouldn’t want to be apart from him either.
They walked along the shore for some time. Marcella was lulled to sleep with the repetitive sound of the crashing waves.
"You said nothing about the gift," he said. He was surprised she didn’t say a word about the necklace.
"I can’t see it. Is it a necklace?" she asked. Now she felt bad for not saying anything about it. "I love it!!" she hugged him and kissed him.
"You just said you couldn’t see it. How do you know you like it?" he asked with a chuckle. Her hair was getting messy in the sea breeze and yet she looked beguiling in the moonlight.
"I like it because my Sweet Baby got it for me," she said. She didn’t have to lie. It was the truth.
"Wait... I didn’t get you any gift," she said.
"You don’t have to," Tony picked her up. "Where have you heard a gift getting a gift? You are my gift."
"Wow!" Marcella buried her head in his neck. Her man knew how to make her heart skip a beat.
She looked at the necklace in the light. It was so pretty and looked very expensive with large diamonds and a matching earring set.
What was there not to appreciate? She loved it!
"You didn’t have to, Tony. I already have a lot of heavy jewelry," she said just for the sake of it. She couldn’t hide her grin though.
Tony noticed the joy on her face and that was all he needed. "You’re wearing a lot of your mother’s jewelry. I thought you would like this in your collection," he said.
Marcella understood where he came from. He wanted her to wear the jewelry he bought; not what her father brought.
She was fine with it!
On their way back, Marcella couldn’t help but smile listening to the songs on the radio.
"Tony. Do not take offense to what I say, please," she held his hand as they approached the city. "Beth said she was going to move to LA. Leave her be, please..."
She had that thought on the back burner. Tony avoiding talking about Beth didn’t give her any comfort. she decided to talk to her husband for her friend. She just got what she wanted and she didn’t want Tony to ruin it for her.
Tony glanced at her. There was a little hostility in his glance. He said nothing.
"Please, say something, Tony," she said. "You taught me to be open and you cannot go silent like this..."
She gulped seeing Tony’s knuckles turning white.
