Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 169: She Lied
Chapter 169: She Lied
Marcella’s dilemma didn’t last long as Beth started talking. She was too excited she could come to her house and Marcella couldn’t say anything to her.
Beth talked about the changes in her life. She mentioned that even Daniel Schmidt was scared of her and she was grateful for Tony’s help in that. Marcella didn’t find the need to mention that Schmidt was scared of her and not Tony. Seeing Beth happy that her dreams come true, Marcella was happy for her. Beth was so excited about her new movie. She also told her that the production house was asking her to change her name.
Marcella offered wine to her. Beth followed her to the kitchen.
"I smell something delicious!" Beth exclaimed.
"That’s... dinner..."
Marcella had forgotten about their anniversary momentarily and now that Beth reminded her, she wanted to get ready. Her husband would be home any time.
"Today’s our anniversary. First wedding anniversary," Marcella placed the wine bottle on the counter. "I will have to get ready."
Beth’s face froze for a moment. "Am I intruding then?" she asked.
Marcella smiled awkwardly. Would it be rude if she said yes?
"How about this?" Beth placed her hand on Marcella’s shoulder. "I’ll help you get ready. I also wanted to see the collections you have. I see your pictures often and you wear beautiful jewelry. Even my Hollywood costume designer was awed by your dresses and jewelry. Show me now! Where’s your room? Is it upstairs?"
Without leaving room for Marcella to speak, Beth climbed up the stairs. Marcella couldn’t say anything seeing Beth’s excitement. She brought Beth to her room. Beth was astonished seeing her room. Marcella was proud to see Beth appreciating her taste.
She showed Beth her closet and Beth was like an excited child trying on her jewelry and clothes. Marcella was new to this kind of friendship. Gloria was her best friend but she would never touch her stuff; the distance was absent with Beth. Marcella liked the closeness. It reminded her of her sister and mother who shared such a close relationship.
While they were in the closet, Marcella heard Tony’s car in the driveway. She grabbed Beth by the hand and dragged her down the stairs. Tony asked her not to let Beth inside their house and he wouldn’t be pleased to learn that she let her inside their bedroom. Her husband doesn’t like others in their bedroom; even Mary wouldn’t enter their room.
Beth was confused but Marcella asked her to stay in the living room. She ran to the door to greet her husband. She looked at herself and she was appalled by herself. Her clothes had spots of stains on them, she hadn’t even washed her face yet. She was too busy showing off, she forgot about the day and what she had planned for her husband.
Tony walked in the front porch. Looking at her, he paused for a moment. She didn’t know whether it was her appearance or her expression that put him off. He lost his smile just for a moment but then he walked to her and hugged her.
"Is everything fine, Birdie?" he asked. "Is Joey okay?"
Tony was expecting a lot from her. By her excitement, he had imagined that she would be wearing makeup and just a robe over her to greet him. He expected for her to hold his hand and beeline to the bedroom and let him have her as the wedding anniversary feast.
Seeing her looking tired and worn out, he thought that something might be wrong. If she looked this stressed, he wondered if the little one was ill or hurt himself.
"Yeah... Everyone’s fine... Why?" With an awkward smile, she placed her hand on his chest putting some distance between them as she heard Beth walking behind her.
Tony was not pleased with her for pushing him back. He saw someone unfamiliar inside the house and when he realized who it was, he let go of Marcella. One glance from him was enough for Marcella to bow her head.
Saying nothing, Tony climbed up the stairs.
"Hi, Mr. Crawford! It’s my pleasure to meet you!" Beth tried to block his way but Tony quickly climbed up the stairs.
Beth stared at Tony’s back and Marcella grabbed her by the hand and brought her to the telephone. Holding her hand, she called the cab services.
"You’re sending me away? I thought I was going to have dinner with you guys tonight!" Beth asked donning a serious and hurt look.
"Uh, Beth! Stop kidding!" Marcella took it as a joke. Surely, Beth would know not to intrude on a couple’s dinner on their wedding anniversary.
"I’ll find you later."
"When?" Beth raised her brows. "Mars, I will be leaving for LA tomorrow. I want to spend more time with you."
"It’s okay. I’ll visit you in LA," Marcella hugged her.
Beth hugged her back tightly. Marcella tried to leave but Beth insisted she stayed until the cab arrived.
Tony walked into their room and he was in for another surprise. The entire room looked like his bachelor pad. Her clothes were all over the room. The vase was toppled as one dress was thrown on the dresser; water was dripping down on the rug and the fresh flowers were squished on the floor. The bed looked messy. All her jewelry was scattered on the vanity table.
It was like a bunch of monkeys were let loose inside this room.
His wife could never be this messy. That’s what he loved and hated about her. She’s too orderly.
Not only did she let that woman inside our house, but she let her inside our bedroom too!
Tony fisted his hands. He looked to see if his wife had followed him but he didn’t hear her anywhere near him. She was staying with that woman.
He let out a sigh. He checked his table and it was as he left them. He pushed the clothes on the chair and waited for his wife. She came, after that woman left. He heard the cab leave.
"Tony!" Marcella exclaimed forcing a smile on her face. "Oh, don’t mind this..." she picked the clothes on the floor. "I was... I was so excited to get ready, I couldn’t figure out what to wear and I... I didn’t let her in or anything. She stayed downstairs, all the time..."
She spoke avoiding his eyes.
Tony said nothing.
So, she lies too!
He was married to her for a year. Was he supposed to believe that this woman who usually chooses the dress she would wear, a week in advance right to the jewelry and the shade of lipstick, somehow didn’t plan what she was going to wear for her first anniversary?
So believable!
He sighed.
What should I do with her?
