Chapter 157: Making of a King
Chapter 157: Making of a King
Months passed and spring arrived. By then, Marcella had made a home out of the house she inherited from her father. Although there were traces left of the home she grew up in, she made sure she made it her marital home too.
Although she was uncomfortable using her parent’s bedroom and changed everything, she made sure Tony got used to her father’s study. It was in a perfect place for an office/study. It was perfect for her father to greet and have meetings with his guests and she knew it would be perfect for Tony too. Although Tony preferred the small study on the second floor, Marcella slowly trained him to get comfortable in the room that used to be her father’s study.
That room didn’t change much. She did so on purpose. Her father had designed the room in a way to inspire awe and respect for the one sitting on that big leather chair. The temperature in that room would be lower than the other rooms and anyone who entered the room felt the chill as they entered.
It was not a place where he was an equal with his partners; it exemplified him as a King—someone above everyone else. It awakened the primal fear in humans and made them submit to him.
She wanted everyone to feel the chill while meeting Tony too. No living person should think that they can raise his voice against him or plot against him. They should fear him.
It’s what Tony wanted! She will help him reach that place in every way she can, starting with simple changes like this.
Yeah, he was in a position to show himself as one of the people; he was in politics and wanted to run to become the president one day. He cannot be unreachable for everyone.
He should be a relatable king.
So, she added a small annex to her father’s office that overlooked the garden. The entire place felt serene with tall French windows, lively with plants, and cozy with cushioned wooden furniture.
Tony could choose where he meets his people.
Tony looked at her with surprise when she told him her thoughts. He stared at her with admiration. "How are you thinking this way?" he asked, finally coming out of his awe.
Marcella shrugged. "I’m making a king out of you, Tony," she said. That was the truth. She admired the respect her father commanded. She relished it. The only problem was his methods. She wanted to live that way for the rest of her life.
Whether it was right or not, her respect and status were tied to her husband. For her sake too, he needed to be a king.
Who wouldn’t want to stand beside their husband as the queen? She sure did!
"Didn’t you want to take me to the White House as the First Lady?" she raised her brows. "This is just a simple change that’s going to help in that. I promise I’ll be your support, Tony. And I will in every way I can."
Tony placed her hand on her neck and rubbed her cheek with his thumb. His eyes got misty and he gulped swallowing down his emotions. He didn’t have to say a word for Marcella to know that he was grateful for her—he was dripping with love for her.
That’s all she wanted—a little appreciation for what she did for him.
He kissed her forehead. He didn’t let go for an entire minute and held her close to his chest.
"You should be my campaign manager," he said taking in a deep breath.
"I am your wife. I do not want any other title. Like I said before... I can be anything you want me to be by being your wife alone. One other title I accept with gratitude is being the mother of your children. I do not want anything~"
Before she finished, he hugged her to his chest. "Oh, Birdie...You’re making me cry..."
"It’s fine," Marcella patted his back. "As long as it is out of happiness."
"I love you," Tony kissed her. "I love you so much."
Marcella smiled and leaned on his chest. She didn’t think that she did all that for him. She was only getting started.
Joey grew up faster and it became easier for Marcella to care for him. She carried him everywhere she went. He loved seeing new places too. Marcella traveled all over the county, town by town to meet the people there.
Most people didn’t know who she was or who her husband was and that was what she wanted. She was grateful for the car Tony gave her and his divine patience that taught her to drive. It helped her a lot. She would notice Henry’s people following her closely and she appreciated them. Otherwise, she was strapped and her anonymity helped in her safety.
She met the common people and listened to them. She went to the local pubs to listen to the men and to the convenience stores to listen to the ladies. Jeoy helped her too. She learned a lot from the mothers in the children’s parks.
In one of the towns she visited, a cute nine-year-old girl attracted Marcella’s attention. She had a rocket toy in her hand and was bullied by some boys for it. They called her a "tomboy" and "dyke" for liking what they considered a toy for boys.
Marcella interfered as she could relate to the girl. She chased the boys away. The girl was crying and Marcella bought a cold bottle of soda for that girl. She was more than happy to have the soda.
Marcella talked to the girl and learned that she wanted to go to the moon like Neil Armstrong did. Marcella was amazed by the sparkle in that girl’s eyes as she talked about walking on the moon. Even at that age, she was worried if she would be able to continue her education past high school.
Marcella could see how different that girl was from her. She was never interested in studies like that girl. She didn’t even have one percentage of that girl’s interest in studies.
"I’ll help you," Marcella promised.
This was not the first time she was giving a promise to an acquaintance. She was doing that a lot lately. Debby was the first person she helped and she still was staying in touch with Debby. She has also promised to help a handful of people. She had the means and wanted to help those who truly deserve help.
The girl’s eyes widened. "Really?" she asked. Her blue eyes had ripples like the deep sea.
Marcella nodded. She removed the hummingbird brooch she was wearing and pinned it on the girl’s dirty dress. Maybe it was her eyes that resembled closely to her husband’s that softened her heart more. Marcella wanted this girl to succeed.
She then met her parents and gave Tony’s card to them and asked to contact them if they needed any help with her studies. They were shocked but accepted her help.
Also, that little annex outside Tony’s office became her office. She didn’t know how it happened. Tony would ask her to join in his meetings conducted there and as time passed, he asked her to take care of his meetings.
Anyone who wanted to meet Tony had to meet her first. She had the power to answer on his behalf and would send complex issues to him. Even in those meetings, she was there.
It took her some time to realize it but she had become Tony’s trusted right-hand man.
She was happy about it. She was exhilarated that he trusted her that much.
