Chapter 149: Their Home
Chapter 149: Their Home
In the coming days, Marcella and Tony moved to her family home. When she entered, what welcomed her was the sign—DeAngelo Estate.
Marcella was touched. Tony stopped saying that to her but she knew that he was not very pleased that she changed her surname. He was touched she took his name but he was sad that she was not using her father’s surname. He must have come up with this plan for her father’s name to be memorialized.
She was touched. She married the right person.
Marcella observed Tony’s face as he brought her to their bedroom. She thought he would make sure that she kept his worktable there first. But his eyes ended up at the big bed. Then he looked around.
"The crib is not here," he looked at her. On his face was a wide grin—one Marcella was privy to.
Marcella bowed her head and chuckled.
Of course, he would check on that first!
"The nursery is right next door," Marcella opened a door inside the bedroom. She didn’t want to have the nursery in another room. She didn’t think she would be able to sleep with the baby not in her reach.
"Here’s the closet," she opened the door to the closet. As she expected, Tony didn’t care. "You have a separate side. You don’t have to get inside the closet. I’ll take care of everything," she said. She didn’t want to risk letting him inside there. It would be like letting a bull inside a China shop.
"That’s the bathroom," Marcella told Tony as he opened the other door. She thought he would at least take a peek, but he didn’t bother.
"Our bedroom has a small balcony..." Marcella opened the long window near the bed.
Their bedroom might seem like it has a lot of doors, but she wanted it. Bedroom is the place where she wanted peace and where she would be at the start of the day. She wanted everything to be perfect there. She made sure the balcony had flowering plants and a bird feed. She could wake up to the sound of chirping birds and see butterflies fluttering around. Only when she wakes up happy, can she make Tony and everyone else happy.
This is her home! This is where they are going to start their family! It should be perfect!
Tony walked to her. She thought he wanted to check out the balcony. She was very proud of the balcony.
She held the door open for him but he pulled her by the waist. She ended up on his chest.
"When are we going to christen this house, Birdie?" he asked holding her close.
Marcella smiled. "How about tonight?"
Tony patiently listened to her explain everything about the house to her. He could see the effort she put into everything. Everything there had a purpose and some were there because she liked it or because she thought he would like it.
He loved everything. It didn’t matter to him what this building had or not. As long as he had her in here, everything is perfect.
Standing in front of the house, he took in a deep breath.
"Our house, Tony," she said.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Our home... Our family home," he said.
Marcella leaned on him. He is right. This is their family home now.
Tony was busy in the coming days. Congressman Feinstein had to face more troubles after Tony interfered in the affairs of someone else’s district. It made national news but the powers of the high made sure that matter didn’t stay in the papers for long.
But they didn’t know that the issue was just the beginning of their headache and there was more to come. Inspired by the protests led by the women in Olive Groove, a lot of women came to the streets to protest. Kids and elders joined them as they voiced their thoughts against the injustices they faced. They demanded the system to be changed to serve the people as it was designed to.
Rather than focusing on one Congressman, everyone had something more urgent to deal with. That relieved some of Tony’s stress.
Tony tried to gather more details about Daniel Schmidt and his possible connections with Don DeAngelo. He couldn’t find much and he assigned that task to Henry. Henry didn’t know much about that day either but he remembered that the Don was contemplating for the next few days and then he went for a meeting with someone else.
Tony wondered if Marcella was right. Was Don acquainted with someone even Schmidt was afraid of? Who could that be?
Tony gained information that Andrew Mellon and Paul Romano had formed an unholy alliance. Tony couldn’t understand how someone from the Mellon family could be subservient to Paul Romano. He saw them together once and they appeared to have shared a deep bond, that went beyond an alliance. When he talked to Marcella about it, she asked him if he was jealous to see his father being cozy with another man while ignoring him.
Was that the reason he didn’t like it? Or was there something more?
Marcella was busy too. Joey grew up to be a very calm baby, making it easy for her to travel with him. She visited every town in every county in their district. Tony had arranged a driver for her.
He said that the car was hers. She thought he was joking at first but he insisted. It had been a month since that car became hers.
Tony is teaching her to drive these days. Every Sunday, she has driving classes with her husband. She was reluctant at first because she had faced trauma in learning to drive in the past.
Her father was an angel and had the patience of Job when it came to her. But he would turn into a demon from hell when he sat beside her as she took the wheel. He would scream in her ears like she was causing the world to end.
She stormed out in the middle of a lesson vowing to her father that she would never drive.
She thought Tony would act like her father but he was entirely different. He was truly patient with her.
Although she didn’t have the confidence to drive in traffic, she knows a little about driving now.
"Where are we going today, Ma’am?" the driver asked.
Marcella smiled. "I’ll tell you."
