Chapter 836: Chapter 819: Survivors

Yue Feng shook his head and confidently said, “Foxes are very intelligent animals; they won’t be easily domesticated like that! I don’t know if any of the brothers in our livestream have read a book from a while ago called ‘Wolf Totem,’ about a guy raising a wolf cub! I think it was even made into a movie!”

“Huh? Can’t be tamed? Little White is very smart too, but now he’s obediently accompanying you! After being well-fed, he’s pretty well-behaved even without the hat!”

“It would be great if this White Fox could be like a cat at home!”

“I’ve seen ‘Wolf Totem,’ and I understand what Brother Feng means. I’m still curious about what degree of closeness can be achieved with wild foxes using reasonable methods!”

Yue Feng smiled, “I can’t say for sure, but peaceful coexistence with basic interaction should be possible! Now the weather is so cold and food is so scarce; for these little foxes, surviving in the wild is very difficult!

Our existence equates to an additional level of survival ability for them, providing an extra food source! However, in the long term, it doesn’t greatly benefit their population! Do you know why I try to give Little White flying sessions every day whenever possible?”

“I know this, to maintain stamina and exercise!”

Yue Feng nodded, “Yes, to maintain Little White’s exercise routine! We can’t take him back to the country, so when filming ends, we’ll definitely release him back into the wild!

Little White is a falcon who has learned more hunting techniques from us, which is beneficial for the longevity of the falcon species. But foxes can’t learn more; in this sense, the Arctic Fox and Little White are completely different!”

“Alright, I understand! There’s only ten days left until the challenge ends, and hearing Brother Feng say this makes it seem quite nostalgic!”

“Yeah, yeah, without realizing, Brother Feng has been here for 50 days already, time flies!”

Yue Feng stretched and looked at the sky outside the snow house: “Humans are social creatures; luckily, everyone opening the livestream each day to accompany me makes me feel better! If there was no livestream, someone with less determination might go crazy!”

While Yue Feng was speaking with the viewers in the livestream, the bald guy in livestream room number one in the United States was experiencing a fit of hysteria.

The bald guy’s real name is Ken, 46 years old, originally a wilderness hunting coach, working in a training institution specializing in teaching wealthy, leisurely individuals wilderness skills such as archery, shooting, and tracking prey.

Before accepting the challenge invitation, Ken was full of confidence. He chose his most trusted long-range weapon, a bow and arrow, and brought a hunting knife and fire stick, confidently believing that he could survive in any place in the world where wild animals roam with these basic supplies and live well.

However, from the first day of landing at the challenge site, the completely unfamiliar harsh environment taught him a lesson.

The animal resources near the Arctic Circle and the external environment were completely different from the jungle coniferous forests Ken was accustomed to, taking nearly a week to gradually adjust and acclimatize.

The plains were sparse in vegetation, and animals were extremely limited; in the first two weeks, Ken couldn’t catch any decent large prey, surviving mostly on squirrels and hares out of necessity.

Yue Feng demonstrated that fishing was a god-level survival skill here, but Ken didn’t even bring the simplest fishhook.

After learning through livestream communication that other challengers could catch dozens of fat fish a day, half a month had passed, and he made a primitive fishhook from bones for fishing; yet, he only stored a dozen or so smoked fish.

With food scarcity and no ample reserves, the recent ten-day bout of strong winds and heavy snow made Ken’s days even tougher. On the fiftieth day of the challenge, Ken had eaten all of his last bit of food reserves.

Prolonged nutritional deficiencies led to severe physical depletion, and any slight exertion caused heavy panting. His originally brawny and agile body had slimmed down, and his face was skinnier and out of shape.

With no food and snow covering most traps, he lost his food sources. After exhausting tremendous effort to break through the ice and try fishing, he drew the fish to the ice hole, only for the fishing line to snap, losing both the fish and the most precious bone fishhook.

“Ahhh!!!!” The long-suppressed frustration finally erupted at this moment. Ken sat yelling in despair on the ice, but to no avail.

He hadn’t eaten for a day; if he could haul in that fish, he could at least keep going for another two days. Even if the fish was lost, as long as he had the fishhook, Ken would persist in fishing.

But now, there’s nothing left!

One and a half hours later, the show’s helicopter came to take Ken away, who had given up the challenge, leaving only three challengers—Yue Feng, the number six Indian lady, and number eight black guy, Claude.

The number six Indian lady is a botanist who also had an unfavorable start, spending almost the entire first week relying on various lichens and plant roots to subsist. After receiving tips from viewers, she tried net fishing, and the net yielded good results, gradually stabilizing her situation.

However, at this critical juncture of the challenge, the ice was over thirty centimeters thick, making net fishing no longer feasible. At this point, the lady only had three fish in food reserves, and her situation was also not very good.

As for number eight Claude, this ex-soldier was, aside from Yue Feng, living the most comfortable life among the challengers. On the first day of the challenge, he caught a porcupine, securing almost a week’s worth of food.

Later on, he meticulously surveyed the hunting ground terrain and set up small traps for supplementing food reserves, while focusing solely on hunting larger prey.

Persistence paid off, as he managed to hunt a full-grown musk ox. Right now, Claude had at least several hundred pounds of high-quality musk ox meat stored in his firewood-built “food safe,” easily sustaining him for another month.

The harsh weather made going out hunting nearly impossible, while the black guy’s daily livestream activities became somewhat rudimentary. Initially, he tried to find amusement by interacting with viewers, but with Yue Feng being such a standout, both his rudimentary guitar and clumsy clay sculptures drew little response, only prompting viewers to check in and then report back to Yue Feng.

Life continued unhurriedly while Yue Feng’s daily routine became relatively fixed—resting in the shelter at night, coming to the snow house for livestream fishing during the day, teasing foxes, or seizing opportunities to train Little White for flying sessions. Life was quite comfortable.
