Chapter 804: Chapter 788 Ambush

“Alright, folks, our site preparation work is basically complete! From now on, we’ll need a bit of luck! It’s not long until sundown, so starting at dawn tomorrow, we have to keep an eye on the cellar shack. Let’s head back to the shelter now and prepare the food and eagle training equipment for the upcoming days!”

After a quick greeting, Yue Feng led everyone back to the cabin and continued their busy work.

Grilling meat, boiling fish soup, giving water to the live thunderbird caught by the hang foot trap to fill its belly, after which Yue Feng cut some more lines from the PE coil and began handcrafting the equipment for catching birds of prey in advance.

Seeing Yue Feng weaving the PE line with his fingers like a little girl making a bracelet, a thick roughly chopstick-sized eight-strand woven rope quickly took shape.

As he was about to finish, the weaving method slightly changed, turning the round rope into a flat strip, leaving the viewers puzzled until Yue Feng satisfactorily completed it, prompting everyone’s curiosity.

“Feng bro, what is this? A bracelet? Seems pretty neat!”

“Damn, Feng bro is such a treasure of a streamer; he knows everything! Compared to you, I feel like an idiot!”

“A rope knot made from eight-strand PE line; it’s so thick you could probably use it to lead a cow! Can’t imagine what else it could be used for!”

Yue Feng grinned: “This rope isn’t for leading cows; it’s prepared in advance for the falcons. We only have PE line on hand, so once we catch the eagle, we’ll need a way to control it! This woven rope is called ‘liangkai’ in the trade, which means leg binding! PE line is strong and won’t be easily chewed through by the falcons! Look, here’s what it looks like when finished!”

Yue Feng picked up a pine stick slightly thicker than a pen, wrapped the woven PE rope around it, threaded the round stick through the hole at the flat connection point, wrapped it again, and finally threaded the rope end back through the slit at the tip of the flat end, setting up a ‘liangkai’!

He tidied it up and tightened it, revealing that the leg binding was already thoughtfully designed with a very meticulous approach during weaving.

The flat rope increased the contact area with the leg to prevent chafing, while the two reserved holes for threading allowed it to be securely fastened to the leg when wrapped in circles.

After a brief introduction of the leg binding basics, Yue Feng continued offline, repeating the previous weaving process. Soon another leg binding with nearly identical parameters was completed.

Completing the leg bindings was just the first step in the eagle hunting equipment. Yue Feng continued to weave offline, creating a rope loop similar to the ‘liangkai’ structure but with two loops at the ends, resembling the shape of an 8.

“What’s this? Another leg binding? Doesn’t look like it, fewer strands and thinner when done!”

“I don’t get it, but I’m sure it’s useful!”

Yue Feng continued explaining: “This 8-shaped rope loop is called a ‘haba’, used as the connection between the ‘liangkai’ and the octagonal ring. I’ll make another five-foot one to be held by hand later!

These weren’t my inventions but ancient eagle hunting techniques passed down by our ancestors! If you’re interested, you can check related professional forums! Here, with limited resources, we’ll have to make do!

Training eagles is like fishing; both require a full set of equipment! We’ll also need a sleeve guard made of rabbit fur and a lure for eagle training. These are simple and not urgently needed, so we can prepare them after catching the eagle!

After enlightening the curious viewers a bit more, the sky gradually darkened. Yue Feng continued streaming until finishing dinner, then ended the broadcast to rest up early!

Early the next morning, before dawn, Yue Feng got up, took the rations prepared last night, plus a little water, and headed to the prepared site with his equipment and the thunderbird serving as lure.

A Y-shaped forked wooden stick was sharpened at the bottom and driven into the ground; the thunderbird’s leg was tied with a rope leading into the cellar. After one last check of the eagle-catching net, Yue Feng started the drone and selected the wide-angle mode, positioning it beside the cellar.

Once he got into the cellar, the sky began to lighten, and dedicated fans started trickling into the live stream.

“What the heck? When did Feng bro go live? It’s not even light out!”

“I haven’t even finished my night shift, and Feng bro is already up? So early!”

“What kind of mode is this? Is the drone streaming? The angle looks strange?”

“Any sign of falcons? Good morning, Feng bro!”

Yue Feng whispered a greeting: “Hey everyone! I’ve been at the site for less than half an hour! I’m camouflaged in the cellar bunker! The view you see is from the drone on the ground, taken with a wide-angle lens! I can also see outside from the lookout here! Everything’s ready; now we wait and see if luck is on our side!”

“Oh, it’s a wide-angle lens; that explains the odd perspective!”

“It’s too early; why not wait until the sun is fully up? Or is there some special reason?”

“Why not send the drone up high? Afraid the eagles will notice?”

Yue Feng explained: “Exactly, don’t want birds of prey to notice, especially the falcons, as they’re just birds, after all. They hold hostility toward any other flying object in their territory! A sudden swoop could damage the drone, which isn’t worth the risk!

As for coming out early, birds of prey have specific hunting windows – early morning, mid-afternoon till dusk are good times! We’re hoping to get lucky by coming early!”

Despite saying getting lucky, the odds are quite low. Yue Feng, casually chatting with viewers, kept an eye on the surrounding sky through the lens but remained empty-handed from dawn till noon. The white silhouette seemed to have vanished from the sky.

The audience felt slightly disappointed, yet Yue Feng’s mood stayed calm. If this were a bird migration route or similar site, success would have been more likely! Catching birds of prey in their territory typically has low success rates. As evidence, two days were spent scouting before setting up the site.

Yue Feng filled his stomach with meat and grilled fish for lunch in the cellar, lying in there all afternoon.

Only when the sky began darkening did Yue Feng reluctantly emerge, giving the thunderbird bait water and some berries to replenish its energy.

For the next three days, Yue Feng woke before dawn, staying on-site until nightfall.

The continuous lack of results prompted viewers to lose interest; even watching Yue Feng chop trees or dig holes seemed more entertaining!

Unmoved by viewers’ suggestions to quit, Yue Feng stayed resolute, having planned to dedicate a week, with two days left, unwilling to abandon halfway!

This continued until noon on the sixth day, when finally, things turned around!
