Chapter 719: Chapter 706 The Second Fish Caught That’s Close to the Standard Size

“Fengfeng, do you need to steady on a bit? If it’s too much strain, don’t force yourself!” Wawa saw Yue Feng’s arm muscles starting to tremble and said with concern.

Yue Feng shook his head, “No problem, everything is under control. This fish should be smaller! Just not sure if it meets the standard.”

After bending over to reel in several times, the fish was pulled out of the water once again.

True to Yue Feng’s judgment, it was still a giant grouper, but smaller than the previous one, which explained why it was less powerful. With the help of the exoskeleton alone, Yue Feng managed to pull the fish aboard.

“Black Pearl to the judge boat, we’ve caught another giant grouper and request assistance for measurement and verification!”

“Request received. The judge boat is nearby and will head over immediately. Please wait a moment!”

Minutes later, the judge boat that had just left came back again.

“Hey, over here!”

“Caught a second fish without changing spots? You really are a lucky guy!” The white judge, already forming an impression of Yue Feng, greeted him cheerfully and brought the boat closer again.

“This one’s slightly smaller, not sure if it meets the standard,” Yue Feng reported truthfully.

“Should be close enough! Let Kieran go down and measure it!” The white judge agreed, and his colleague quickly went into the water again.

Yue Feng really was lucky. The target fish’s standard length threshold set before the tournament was five feet, which equals approximately 1.524 meters internationally.

The previous fish was nearly over two meters long, and this one was just over the threshold, around 1.6m, scraping by the minimum standard without too much trouble.

“5.1 feet, meets the rule standards!” the white judge relayed the exact length details from his colleague back to Yue Feng.

Yue Feng: “Guys, did you hear that? 5.1 feet, just over the standard by a wee bit. Our luck is too good today! The second one making the cut!”

“Attention all anglers, angler Yue Feng from Black Pearl has caught a qualifying giant grouper again, making the current progress 2/3!” Soon, the judges’ radio broadcast updated the catch results.

Hearing that Yue Feng had consecutively caught two giant groupers and managed to pull them up, those who were holding back their tempers before the competition started getting irritated and sped up their casting and reeling.

Wrestling with these big creatures requires high physical fitness from the anglers. Often, even if an angler has the burst strength to pull a fish up, it can leave them utterly exhausted, needing a long rest to recover most of their stamina.

But Yue Feng was different; under the card’s effect, the first fish was brought out of the water in a very short time, and with the massive strength boost, his stamina depletion was far less than an average person’s.

That was one thing, but his luck was also exceptionally good. The second fish was much smaller than the average size, giving him a decent advantage.

Once the second fish was released, Yue Feng was spent and couldn’t bother standing around trying to look cool. He squat down on the deck, panting heavily, sweat beads forming on his forehead.

“Whew, two in a row took it out of me. Let me sit down for a bit! Captain David, let’s change the spot, I don’t think there are any target fish left around here!” Yue Feng exhaled a long breath and panted.

“Ok, let’s continue towards the deep water near the bridge! It’s over 30 meters deep there, should be lots of bigger ones. Last year there were rumors of big catches flipping the small boats! How are you feeling? There are ice packs in the cabin, ice down a bit to help you expel lactic acid faster and recover energy!”

On hearing this, Wawa immediately stood up, “Where are they? I’ll go get them for you!”

Yue Feng shook his head, “No need for the ice, just grab me a drink and that’s ok!”

What are you joking about? Cold compresses can indeed alleviate lactic acid to some extent, but that’s just superficial. The core mechanism is that cold compresses cause the blood vessels near the skin to constrict, leading more blood to carry the lactic acid into the heart to speed up metabolism in internal circulation!

But employing this strategy after the activity is over is fine, doing it midway might reduce the muscle’s blood oxygen-carrying capacity, and that could affect catching fish.

Yue Feng was not done with the competition. He still had to compete at the next spot, so he straightforwardly refused.

Unable to convince Yue Feng, the child could only take a few cans of Red Bull out of the boat’s fridge.

Yue Feng had no compunctions about opening the can and gulped down one in one go.

“Ah, this chilled one is so refreshing!” Yue Feng couldn’t help but exclaim with his eyes half-closed.

“Dude, Fengfeng, you’re going a bit overboard, aren’t you? Giving Red Bull such blatant advertising, with fifty to sixty thousand people watching the live stream!”

“How much does Red Bull pay you? We from Lehu will offer double!”

“We from Dongpeng Special Drink will offer triple!”

A bunch of the guys couldn’t help but started teasing again.

Yue Feng tossed the empty can into the trash bin, wiped his mouth, and stood up again.

Yue Feng: “Alright, guys, fully resurrected! We’re almost at our target spot. Let’s try to catch one more fish to conclude today’s competition!”

“I bet those Americans are going to explode in anger when they hear Fengfeng’s words. Talking about catching a giant grouper as if it’s a piece of cake!”

“To speak or not to speak, the appearance of the giant grouper is too terrifying. It reminds me of the sea demons in ‘Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons’ with its huge head, the scar-like pattern all over its body, and those spikes on its back!!”

“Don’t aim for catching something too big. After all, a bigger size doesn’t add extra points, and you can’t bring it onboard. Just catch one about the size of the one we got earlier, and we’ll all be more comfortable!”

While they were chatting, the fishing boat stopped at the new spot.

This area was still under a cross-sea bridge pier, but the depth of the water had significantly increased. Looking down from the boat, the color of the water had become much darker and deeper.

“Guys, there aren’t any other competitors’ boats active around here! According to Captain David, the water is over thirty meters deep, which is considered deep water in this area. Let’s change to fresh bait and see if luck is on our side to haul another one up!”

After a shout-out, Yue Feng held the fish hook in his hand, habitually glancing over the fishing line for a quick inspection.

This casual glance was critical; he put the bait fish he was holding to the side and took out his tools. He then snipped off the section of the leader line attached to the hook.

“It’s a good thing I checked before going under. Look everyone, after catching two fish in a row, our leader line is already damaged. I guess it’s abrasions from rubbing against some obstacle underwater when we forcefully pulled. Thank heavens it didn’t break! Let’s replace this section now and make a new leader line!”

On camera, the section of the leader line that Yue Feng had trimmed indeed showed several frays from abrasion, which could have snapped if pulled with a bit more force.

After replacing the leader line and tying the fish hook, he attached fresh bait and cast it back into the water.

Unbeknownst to the current Yue Feng, he was fortunate that his diligent fishing habits would soon prevent him from missing out on landing a big catch.
