Chapter 347: Karma Was A Bitch

Chapter 347: Karma Was A Bitch

"Rip," laughed the Alpha as he continued to walk toward my man, utterly oblivious to the snake on his back. "I have to say, I’m impressed; I thought it would take you longer to figure out where she was. Then again, you never did let her out of your sight for long."

"Why the hell would I?" asked Rip with a shrug of his shoulders. "She is mine."

"Ah, but are you hers? I saw that she had quite a few men sniffing around her. I should have put her to work in the VIP cabins, after all. Clearly, she can handle it and healing," continued the Alpha, trying to press Rip’s buttons.

Hopefully, this time, it wouldn’t work nearly as well as it had before.

"I’ll admit that learning to share had a steep learning curve, but it does help in these situations," replied Rip as he looked up at the ceiling.

Both Alpha and I followed his gaze. Attached to the ceiling was something that looked like a metal chrysalis. While I hadn’t noticed it before because of how I was inside of the cage, whatever it was didn’t seem to be sending off alarm bells to Alpha.

"Are you trying to bring my attention to the lights?" sneered the Alpha as he returned his attention back to Rip.

"No, I was actually trying to bring your attention to the assassin and the spy on the ceiling, but if you think that they are just lights, then sure. I’m bringing your attention to the lights," shrugged Rip with a smile on his face.

"What?" demanded Alpha as he turned his attention back to the ceiling. But where the chrysalis once was, there was nothing there now. Instead, Cheng Bo Jing and Bin An Sha appeared on opposite sides of Alpha, boxing him in the middle of a triangle.

"Do you really think that the three of you even stand a chance against me? I’m nothing like you remember. The fear I felt for you is completely gone. Now, you are no different than a human to me. But if you want, I’ll be willing to share my secret with you," bargained Alpha, his attention solely on the one he considered to be the biggest threat.

There was the slightest bit of a jolt before my cage was slowly lowered to the floor. I looked over at Cheng Bo Jing, only to see him winking at me. As soon as my cage touched the ground, the lock was melted off, and I was free.

I looked at my man, trying to keep the tears from my eyes. He tilted his head toward one of the corners of the room, and I nodded. As quietly as I could, I snuck out of the cage and sprinted toward where he was indicating.

It wasn’t until I got there that I noticed that the floor wasn’t as even as the rest of them were. Stepping back, I looked at the very corner of the room.

’Lift up the padding; Rip left you a surprise,’ came a voice inside of my head, and I turned to see Si Dong hiding in the corner opposite of me. He waved his hand, but then turned his attention to the confrontation in front of him.

Bending down, I felt the seams in the material and pulled it up, not caring about the sound of Velcro echoing through the room.

Under the square was turned soil and cement. I could see dark blood from where Rip must have punched through the foundation of the room in order to get to the dirt.

The smile on my face got bigger as I jumped into the hole that was at least three feet deep. I was up to my chest in the dirt, and I couldn’t be happier.

Pulling on my power, I plunged it deep into the ground under me, feeling the roots and highways of the vegetation around us. The more I concentrated under me, the more I could feel.

In fact, I was pretty sure that I could even feel the guards walking around the hotel kilometers away.

I pulled back a bit, taking the power with me until all of my being was focused on the people inside of this room.

The cement and plastic padding were keeping me from connecting to them, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me.

Going even deeper under the ground, I felt for the roots that encompassed every inch of the world.

’Grow,’ I whispered inside of my mind. In my head, I pictured what I wanted. I thought about the roots growing bigger and bigger as they shook the very foundation of the building that we were in. Then I pictured offshoots of the roots burrowing upward until they punctured through the cement and the padding.

But because I was spending so much time connecting to my power, I failed to notice the Alpha.

"Little Bird!" screamed Rip, just as the rest of my guys let out a sound of protest.

Lifting up my head, I watched as the Alpha barreled toward me with incredible speed. Rip was on his heels, but Alpha was that much closer to me.

I watched, my head cocked to the side, as he reached forward, his long black nails seemingly sharpening as he tried to get to me.

But before he could touch me, a circle of bright green roots shot through the ground under him and caged him in a circle.

There had to be at least 20 of them, the space between them little more than a hand width. They were so vibrant that they looked out of place within the room as they continued upward, knotting around themselves before continuing up to the ceiling, where they lodged themselves into the metal beams.

When the earth stopped moving, I could see Alpha being hung about five feet off the ground in a bird’s cage made entirely of wood.

He frantically tried to break the bars in front of him, only for them to grow back even stronger and thicker than before.

And the more he moved, the more the cage swung back and forth.

I tilted back my head, unable to suppress my laughter. Apparently, Karma was a bitch...

And so was I.
