Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story
Chapter 305: Live To See Another Day

Chapter 305: Live To See Another Day

After a few minutes of stunned silence, the angry mob was no longer angry, and they filed out of Wu Bai Hee’s house like the good little idiots they were.

Closing the door behind them, she twisted the lock and leaned against the door, breathing out a sigh.

If they were looking for someone to kill, it was best that she focus their attention on someone she wanted dead. Like that fucking Angel.

She snorted at the name. Who would ever accept that as a nickname? Clearly, that woman was more than a bit narcissistic.

Whatever, she was no longer her problem. The mob would go next door, pull her out of Bin An Sha’s home, and execute her.

She couldn’t wait to watch.

"Since when have you been speaking to a God?" asked an amused voice from the kitchen.

Suppressing her groan, Wu Bai Hee turned her attention to the woman leaning against the counter, two baskets of fruit in front of her.

"I’m speaking to a God right now, aren’t I?" smiled Wu Bai Hee as she went to sit down on a chair at the dining room table. She wouldn’t touch the couches until they were replaced.

"Stupid human child. I am a Goddess, and I am also the only reason you are alive right now. A bit of gratitude would be nice," chucked Demeter as she bit into a crisp apple.

She moaned in delight as the juice dripped down her throat. There was nothing better than fresh produce. She should know; she was the Goddess of Harvest, after all.

"Of course, what can I do for you?" smiled Wu Bai Hee, only to have the other woman glare at her.

Fuck, she forgot that the Goddess knew what she was thinking.

"What is this about killing an Angel?" asked Demeter, waving to the door.

"I thought you would be happy about that. Your son seems to be particularly enamored with her. I didn’t think that you would be happy about that," shrugged the woman, not really caring. All she wanted to do was go back to bed.

The baby had been moving around all night long, disturbing her sleep. And, of course, it would happen when she finally got the bed to herself.

"My son is in love with someone, and your first thought was to kill them?" asked Demeter, a look of confusion passing over her face.

"Well, you were upset when he was around that Li Dai Lu bitch. I thought you didn’t like the fact that he would be taken away from you."

"Listen here, you useless twat," sneered the Goddess, putting down the apple in her hand and striding toward Wu Bai Hee. "I hated Li Dai Lu because of who she is and the fact that she tricked my boy. But I will not allow anyone to destroy my son’s happiness simply because they are jealous fools that have delusions of grandeur."

Demeter came to a stop in front of Wu Bai Hee and gripped the other woman under her chin. "You think that you are so smart that you have everyone eating from the palm of your hands... but that’s not true. The only reason why you are still alive is because of that child in your womb. The one you tell everyone who will listen is the savior."

Dropping Wu Bai Hee’s chin, Demeter wiped her hand on a cloth and tossed it onto the floor. "It is obvious that you have too much time on your hands. Let’s change that, shall we?"

Spinning around, the Goddess vanished into thin air.

Wu Bai Hee rolled her eyes, and at the same time, she let out a sigh of relief. She never believed in the old gods... or even the new ones. And now she wished that she had never even heard of them. They did nothing but meddle, ruining human lives because they were bored...

Or had a grudge.

Look at her. She had yet to know peace since she gave her soul to the woman for a second chance at life.

Coming to her feet, she walked back toward her bed, looking forward to taking another nap.

However, before she could even get part way there, a sharp shooting pain appeared in her stomach, and she felt a rush of fluid pouring out of her like she had peed herself.

Looking down at the clear fluid, she moaned as yet another sharp, shooting pain stabbed through her back. She crumpled to the floor, not caring about the fact that she was lying in her own water. Opening her mouth, she screamed.

Hopefully, someone would hear her and come to her rescue, but the pain was so bad at that moment she couldn’t move, let alone go get help.

----

"That fucking bitch," roared Si Dong as he stormed into Bin An Sha’s condo and frantically looked around.

"I take it the talk went well?" smiled Wang Tian Mu, and Si Dong stalked toward her and pulled her from Rip’s lap and engulfed her in his arms.

He buried his head in her neck and breathed in her smell. She was alive for now, and he would cheerfully murder anyone who wanted to change that. Even if he had to take on the entire City A, he would do it with a smile on his face.

"I hate her," he mumbled into her neck, refusing to let her go. "We need to kill her."

"Not while she is pregnant," Wang Tian Mu replied with a shake of her head. The woman was always considering everyone else. But Wu Bai Hee didn’t deserve to take in another breath of air, let alone turn the whole city against his woman.

But he knew his Viper wouldn’t back down on that. As long as she was pregnant, Wu Bai Hee would live to see another day.

"What happened?" asked Bai Long Qiang from where he sat in a corner, cleaning his gun.

"Well, she is telling everyone who will listen that the creatures aren’t zombies because they aren’t green or slow moving," started Si Dong, not knowing how he was going to say the next part.

"And?" pressed Ye Yao Zu, staring at his friend.

"And she said that the only way to stop the attacks is to kill Wang Tian Mu."
