Chapter 304: Only Way To Be Safe
My body was humming with the zombie’s energy, and my brain was already going off on all the things I wanted to do tomorrow. I was going to have to plan a trip to the guild building in order to make sure that they were doing okay. "But their teeth were interesting!"
"Okay," said Cheng Bo Jing, pulling me away from the window before putting up a solid metal barrier around the whole thing. "We are going to leave that for tonight because I think we are all too tired to have an actual conversation about it right now. But be assured, Little Rabbit, we will be talking about it in the morning."
"Awe, you are becoming such a good dad," I murmured, patting the man on his head as I walked out of the room, the rest of the guys following behind me.
"I claim right," grunted Si Dong as I made my way toward the massive bed in the middle of the living room.
"I got left," said Bai Long Qiang. "I lost a couple of years off of my life, and I need to get them back."
"Just get to sleep," grunted Cheng Bo Jing as he scooped up Wang Chang Ming and carried him over to one of the couches.
"Yes, Daddy," we all replied with a smile as Si Dong and Bai Long Qiang got under the blankets and proceeded to squish me between them so that I couldn’t move.
All in all, it wasn’t that bad of a night.
----
After a horrible night, Wu Bai Hee wasn’t in the mood to deal with people at her door. Unfortunately for all of them, it didn’t stop them from pounding on it a second morning in a row.
Rolling out of bed, she threw on a dress and made her way to the entrance. Zhao Jun Jie hadn’t been back since he left yesterday morning, and while it didn’t bother her at all, it would have been nice to have him around right now so he could at least answer the door.
"Good morning," she smiled as she opened the door wide and invited everyone inside.
While opening your door to an angry mob was usually not the smartest thing to do, at this moment, it was a matter of power. They could easily shove her aside and enter in any way. This way, she at least appeared to not be hiding anything.
"Please have a seat. If you are here, I am sure that something must have happened," she smiled, indicating for people to have a seat in the living room. She was in the mood to redecorate anyway, so it wouldn’t matter if they made everything dirty or not. It was going to be burned as soon as they left.
"We were attacked again last night," said the same man who had come yesterday.
Huh, she had thought for sure that the basket of fruit and bread would have satisfied him for more than a few hours. People these days were so greedy.
"By the random creatures?" she asked, blinking her eyes slowly up at him. She double-checked her posture, and her muscles screamed at her that she was exactly how she should be to get the most sympathy.
"By the zombies," muttered one of the other people leaning against the wall beside the door. "We all know that it was the zombies who did this. There is no other explanation."
"But yesterday, you said that they didn’t look like zombies or even act like them. How can you be so sure?" murmured Wu Bai Hee, looking at the man talking through her eyelashes.
However, the man didn’t reply to her.
Continuing to stare at him, she realized that it was like talking to a brick wall. He was a spirit user...
Fuck, she hated dealing with them the most.
"I don’t believe we’ve met," she blinked, approaching the man. However, just as she tried to reach out and touch him, he leaned out of the way and away from her hand.
"We have, I guess I am just that forgettable," shrugged the man. "But I am not important; what is important is what you are doing about the zombies. You promised us all that the city was blessed and that nothing would happen to us."
"That right! And the zombies have escalated! Instead of eating the bodies of their victims, they took a chunk out of them, killing them, and then left them in the middle of the each square. It was horrible! The children are now scared to go outside."
The woman who spoke was bent in two, crying her eyes out.
There was nothing more that Wu Bai Hee hated than a crying woman. There was a purpose to tears, and that was to get men to do what you wanted them to do. So why was she crying right now? Did she really think that it would work against another woman?
"I am still not sure that I believe you about the zombies," said Wu Bai Hee softly as she moved away from the spirit user and toward an empty chair. "But that doesn’t matter. I spoke to God yesterday, and he offered up a solution."
"What is it?" demanded one of the men from the middle of the crowd.
"No, it’s too horrible to even say aloud," answered Wu Bai Hee with a shake of her head. She pulled out a handkerchief from the pocket of her dress and started dabbing at the side of her eyes. Rubbing slightly so the corners turned red, she looked up at the people around her.
She really needed to up the guards if they kept getting inside like this.
"If it means that our children aren’t afraid and we no longer live in terror, you have to tell us. Please, what did God tell you, Princess?" asked another woman, her voice choking up with tears.
"I really shouldn’t say," murmured Wu Bai Hee, going back to gently wiping her eyes. "I can’t put that on you. I’ll try to find another way of saving everyone."
"If you know a way, just tell us," said the man from yesterday. He leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he looked at her. "We will do anything."
"God said that if you were willing to sacrifice the Angel to the demons coming, that they would stop," whispered Wu Bai Hee, looking at the man. "We have to kill the Angel of City A. Only that way will we be safe."
